Book excerpt: A prophesy that rules me. A curse that ruins me. A wolf shifter pack who claim I am theirs. It wasn’t my choice to be sold to a powerful psychopath by my mother when I was a baby. It wasn’t my choice to be tortured for magic I don’t possess but no-one says no to Esoti and lives. Except me. There are worse things than death. Not dying, for one. In a world ruled by The Six, anyone magical is put to death, shifters are slaves and I am the lowest of the low. Until Alpha wolves Alerick, Jarom and Eike capture me. The thing is, I don’t want to be anyone’s Mate, or toy, or plaything. They insist I’m anything but human, mastering my body and unleashing ancient magic hidden deep inside me. The magic is untamaable. Unpredictable. But it just might give me the one thing I’ve always dreamed about—revenge. Magic Claimed is the first book in a dystopian romance series. This action-packed, heart-wrenching ride gives you a kickass heroine, three irresistible shifters, a steamy romance with no choosing required, and evil enemies like you've never seen it before in each book.

Lydia Susi is passionate about protecting wolves in their natural habitat. When a hotel chain develops a tract of land next to the preserve, Lydia is one of the most vocal opponents of the project—and becomes a target. One night, a shadowy figure threatens Lydia’s life in the forest, and a new hire at the Wolf Study Project comes from out of nowhere to save her. Daniel Joseph is both mysterious, and someone she intrinsically wants to trust. But is he hiding something? As the stakes get higher, and one of Lydia’s colleagues is murdered, she must decide how far she will go to protect the wolves. Then a shocking revelation about Daniel challenges Lydia’s reality in ways she could never have predicted. Some fates demand courage, while others require even more, with no guarantees. Is she destined to have true love...or will a soul-shattering loss ruin her forever?

Book excerpt: The latest Broken Magic novel from national bestselling author Devon Monk. Marked by Life and Death magic, Shame Flynn and Terric Conley are "breakers"--those who can use magic to its full extent. Most of the time, they can barely stand each other, but they know they have to work together to defeat a common enemy--rogue magic user Eli Collins. Backed by the government, Eli is trying to use magic as a weapon by carving spells into the flesh of innocents and turning them into brainless walking bombs. To stop him, Shame and Terric will need to call on their magic, even as it threatens to consume them--because the price they must pay to wield Life and Death could change the very fate of the world...and magic itself.

She can’t trust the government or her own people, and thanks to their deal with the Fates, she can’t even trust Silas. The only option left? Turning to old enemies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Raising the Devil reveals how the Christian Pentecostal movement, right-wing conspiracy theories, and an opportunistic media turned grassroots folk traditions into the Satanism scare of the 1980s. During the mid-twentieth century, devil worship was seen as merely an isolated practice of medieval times. But by the early 1980s, many influential experts in clinical medicine and in law enforcement were proclaiming that satanic cults were widespread and dangerous. By examining the broader context for alleged "cult" activity, Bill Ellis demonstrates how the image of contemporary Satanism emerged during the 1970s. Blaming a wide range of mental and physical illnesses on in-dwelling demons, a faction of the Pentecostal movement became convinced that their gifts of the spirit were being opposed by satanic activities. They attributed these activities to a "cult" that was the evil twin of true Christianity. In some of the cases Ellis considers, common folk beliefs and rituals were misunderstood as evidence of devil worship. In others, narratives and rituals themselves were used to combat satanic forces. As the media found such stories more and more attractive, any activity with even remotely occult overtones was demonized in order to fit a model of absolute good confronting evil. Ellis's wide-ranging investigation covers ouija boards, cattle mutilation, graveyard desecration, and "diabolical medicine"--the psychiatric community's version of exorcism. He offers a balanced view of contentious issues such as demonic possession, satanic ritual abuse, and the testimonies of confessing "ex-Satanists." A trained folklorist, Ellis seeks to navigate a middle road in this dialog, and his insights into informal religious traditions clarify how the image of Satanism both explained and created deviant behavior.
