This book was released on 1996 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This review considers the agricultural, forestry, and ground-water monitoring literature and reports on the current designs of lysimeters that are relevant for use in forestry nutrient cycling studies. The review begins with a brief history of lysimetry and then presents a functional classification scheme which is used as a framework for discussing variations in lysimeter system design. The impact of lysimeter system design on sampling artefacts is briefly discussed and the literature on the effect of construction materials on soil solution contamination is tabulated. Statistical considerations of special interest involve the determination of sample size and distribution of the data. The appendix includes a translation of de la Hire's paper published in 1720, sometimes cited as an example of the earliest published work on lysimetry.

Book excerpt: This collection represents a unique set of essays on the role of theory in shaping the practice of medicine across disciplinary boundaries. In the context of this volume, "theory” relates to the conceptual models, frameworks, knowledge representations, metaphors and analogies that inform the problem-solving efforts of practitioners seeking to develop novel dialogues both within and across disciplinary boundaries. Contributors to this volume include computational scientists, chemists, medical researchers, biologists and philosophers, all drawing on personal experience in their respective fields to produce a genuinely interdisciplinary range of perspectives on the common theme of theory in medical thinking and multidisciplinary research practice. * Selected and edited papers from the 10th North American Forest Soils Conference held in Saulte Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, July 20-24, 2003 * A unique spin-off from Elsevier's highly regarded journal, Forest Ecology and Management * An estimated 400 pages of the latest findings in forest soil ecology from the most prominent researchers in the field

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the use of Soil Systems for recycling treated municipal waste effluents was conducted. The scope of the project included: the preparation of a user manual entitled Applying Treated Municipal Wastewater to the Land: Current Technology and an annotated bibliography of selected references in subject area. A state of the art investigation was made of the design, operation and control of irrigation and infiltration-percolation types of soil systems. The summarized results from this investigation were used by workshop participants selected from state, municipal, and federal agencies who were involved in soil system activities as a starting point in writing the manual. The bibliography contains selections which portrayed or influenced the present state of art in the subject field.

This book was released on 2012-06-23 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These volumes contain the contributions to the Second European Conference on Unsaturated Soils, E-UNSAT 2012, held in Napoli, Italy, in June 2012. The event is the second of a series of European conferences, and follows the first successful one, organised in Durham, UK, in 2008. The conference series is supported by Technical Committee 106 of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering on Unsaturated Soils. The published contributions were selected after a careful peer-review process. A collection of more than one hundred papers is included, addressing the three thematic areas experimental, including advances in testing techniques and soil behaviour, modelling, covering theoretical and constitutive issues together with numerical and physical modelling, and engineering, focusing on approaches, case histories and geo-environmental themes. The areas of application of the papers embrace most of the geotechnical problems related to unsaturated soils. Increasing interest in geo-environmental problems, including chemical coupling, marks new perspectives in unsaturated soil mechanics. This book will provide a valuable up-to-date reference across the subject for both researchers and practitioners.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Encyclopedia of Agrophysics will provide up-to-date information on the physical properties and processes affecting the quality of the environment and plant production. It will be a "first-up" volume which will nicely complement the recently published Encyclopedia of Soil Science, (November 2007) which was published in the same series. In a single authoritative volume a collection of about 250 informative articles and ca 400 glossary terms covering all aspects of agrophysics will be presented. The authors will be renowned specialists in various aspects in agrophysics from a wide variety of countries. Agrophysics is important both for research and practical use not only in agriculture, but also in areas like environmental science, land reclamation, food processing etc. Agrophysics is a relatively new interdisciplinary field closely related to Agrochemistry, Agrobiology, Agroclimatology and Agroecology. Nowadays it has been fully accepted as an agricultural and environmental discipline. As such this Encyclopedia volume will be an indispensable working tool for scientists and practitioners from different disciplines, like agriculture, soil science, geosciences, environmental science, geography, and engineering.
