Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is a novel, mostly in dialogue, between a Swedish pensioner Johan and the strongly Catholic believer, young, beautiful, and vulnerable Filipino mother of many children, Lymene, who is in the Philippines under another name. Lymene wants to be called Mary because she adores the Virgin Mary of all her heart. In the hard daily life, Lymene is under the strict control of her father-in-law, the rigorous Catholic patriarch, Father Alberto Notchea, and the whole family, friends, and relatives. When Johan, whom she has known for many years, this time comes on a quick visit, Lymene is forced by Father Alberto Notchea to wear a chastity belt but still, controlled by a strictly global digitized encrypted system, is allowed to go with him on a trip from the Philippines via Thailand, further across the Eurasian continent to Sweden where, for better or worse, she gets to experience a country in political chaos and with a different moral view than the one that exists in her home country. On the way back to the Philippines, Mary and Johan fly together over Catholic Poland further into orthodox re-Christianized Russia, where Eurasianism is in a dramatic confrontation with Globalism. Then, finally, the journey goes via Malaysia back to the Philippines, where everything gets a theatrical and unexpected solution.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tradition of praying litanies can be traced back to the early centuries of the Church. Of all the litanies to Mary, the most used and well known is the Litany of Loreto. It is named after its place of origin, the Shrine of Our Lady of Loreto in Italy, and was approved by Pope Sixtus V in 1587. Since then, the Litany of Loreto has been a source of inspiration not only for the faithful but also for poets, artists, musicians, and builders. Mother Most Powerful reflects on each of the fifty-four titles of Mary found in the Litany of Loreto. As Our Lady's Litany has for centuries, this book will draw you into love and veneration of the Blessed Mother in her titles. These illuminating reflections can be read and prayed in any order and in whatever frequency you choose. They could be the companion to a novena or read over the course of months or a year. Perfect for individual quiet time or a group study, this book will help you grow in devotion to Mary while learning about the Litany of Loreto and the beauty, history, and meaning of Mary's titles therein.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the editors of the widely influential The Stone Reader comes the most thorough and engaging guide to modern ethical thought available. Since 2010, The Stone— an enormously popular column in the New York Times— has interpreted and reinterpreted age-old inquires that speak to our contemporary condition. Having done for modern ethics what The Stone Reader did for modern philosophy, this portable volume features an assortment of essays culled from the archives of an online Times series that has attracted millions of readers through accessible examinations of longstanding topics like consciousness, religious belief, and morality. Presenting the most thorough and accessible guide to modern ethical thought available, New York Times editor Peter Catapano and best-selling philosopher Simon Critchley curate a fascinating culture of debate and deliberation that would have otherwise gone undiscovered. From questions of gun control and drone warfare to the morals of vegetarianism and marriage, this book emancipates ethics from the province of ivory-tower classrooms to become a centerpiece of discussions for years to come.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This combination of catalogue and analysis argues that many more major place names in England predate the Anglo-Saxon invasion than has previously been thought. Others enshrine early names with a complex structure, often reflecting the influence of geographical features. Introductory chapters examine names with a non-Celtic origin, including London, Brittonic river names, such as Poulter, Test and Weaver, and early Irish names in England. Regional chapters contain fully-referenced articles which trace the development of specific names through Saxon and medieval sources, notably Domesday . A number of the articles have been previously published in journals but have since been revised. Includes a gazetteer of names.
