Many new improvements have been added to the school. A blacksmith shop has been installed in the Manual Training building. The boys have assisted greatly in its equipment, ceiling the blacksmith shop, making their own cement forges and many of the tools which they use. Some excellent work is also being done in wood work and mechanical drawing. This train ing is very valuable to the boys. Botany has been added to the course this year, a most interesting subject. This study familiarizes the student with the principal features of plant life. We need more school spirit. Wake nip, boys! Don't let the girls get ahead of you in athletics as they have this year. Be faithful and diligent in your training and success will surely come. The editor wishes to thank all who have so willingly assisted her. The summer of the great war, however, was an epoch making period. We were witnesses near at hand of its ou coming and it is our desire to leave for our children and a few dear friends the picture of those months as they appeared to us. It should be remembered that references to the war are as they were made at the time, merely jottings from news paper accounts as they came to us then. Mistakes in dates are largely due to the strict censorship, which allowed news of many happenings to come through only after long inter vals from the actual occurrence. In the hurry of newspaper make-up many names were undoubtedly misspelled. We took them down as they were, dates and names, and as they were we let them stand here. We hope that we may have improved upon that first annual to some degree, though we realize that ours cannot be infallible, and that many more Crescent annuals must be published before a perfect one can be formed. There is an old story of a little page in the hall of a great Knight, who desired to prove himself worthy of knighthood. One evening, while pondering how he could best attain his desire, he heard a call afar off telling him to keep the compass needle of his soul true to the north star of his great ambition, and that although his trials would be many, in the end he could not fail to succeed. He set out full of hope, but he did not realize how hard the road would be and how often he would be attacked by the monsters: discouragement and despair; but his steadfast purpose helped him to overcome these perils, and the day finally came wh'en he could at last say, I have attained success.
