Deux hypothèses sont formulées : - Le mode d'intervention technique de l'orthophoniste doit être complété par des entretiens avec les enfants ; - Cet étayage particulier de l'orthophoniste se construit au moyen de ce que je vais nommer dans cette thèse : "entretiens-échanges langagiers". Ce mode d'intervention professionnelle, qui conduit les enfants à prendre conscience de leur manière de fonctionner par rapport à l'écrit et à leurs troubles, se situe dans une perspective de recherche appliquée liant théorie et pratique clinique. Cette thèse comporte deux volumes. Le premier volume, d'une part présente la notion de "troubles dyslexiques" (et les problèmes qu'elle soulève), décrit des approches cliniques les concernant, et propose un détour par le phénomène de la "conscience". D'autre part dans une deuxième partie, il explique les choix méthodologiques (ainsi que les problèmes posés, notamment celui du paradoxe de l'auto-observation), et il présente la notion d'"entretien", ainsi que la construction du corpus, composé de séquences filmées et transcrites. Le second volume de la thèse concerne les ressources théoriques retenues en matière d'interaction pour les analyses, en étudiant les étapes de la prise de conscience et en tentant de formaliser le "style" d'intervention de l'orthophoniste. Questionnant le métier d’orthophoniste en cherchant à mettre en évidence sa spécificité, à travers l’analyse des conduites professionnelles, ce travail de recherche s’inscrit donc dans une perspective d’analyse des pratiques professionnelles

Grâce aux données issues de la littérature et à la réalisation d'un questionnaire à destination des orthophonistes exerçant dans les Pays de la Loire, nous avons étudié l'impact de certains facteurs sur la précocité de l'utilisation des signes avec ces enfants. Les résultats obtenus permettent de dresser un aperçu des pratiques actuelles. Les signes sont majoritairement utilisés très précocement dans le suivi orthophonique. Nous n'avons pas pu mettre en évidence l'éventuel impact des facteurs relatifs à la question du diagnostic, des objectifs thérapeutiques ou des connaissances et représentations des parents sur l'utilisation des signes. Seuls deux facteurs étudiés semblent avoir un impact significatif sur la temporalité de leur utilisation : le fait que les orthophonistes estiment manquer de formation (proposant les signes plus précocement) et le sentiment de ne pas connaître suffisamment de signes (proposant les signes plus tardivement).

Book excerpt: Les orthophonistes évaluent systématiquement les aspects formels du langage lors des explorations langagières mais la pragmatique, qui en est un aspect informel, n'est pas automatiquement évaluée par manque d'outils adaptés. Nous avons donc cherché à savoir s'il était possible d'en proposer un permettant cette évaluation. Nous avons alors émis l'hypothèse qu'un test objectif pouvait remplir ce rôle, mais qu'il devait être complété par un outil subjectif pour que l'évaluation soit la plus juste possible. Ainsi, nous avons testé cette hypothèse auprès de quatorze enfants ayant soit des troubles primaires du langage, soit des troubles du langage secondaires à une pathologie psychique. Nous nous sommes d'abord appuyées sur des éléments précis de l'anamnèse de l'enfant, sur son observation clinique et sur des résultats obtenus à une batterie formelle (ELO) pour détecter des troubles de la pragmatique. Puis lors d'un jeu semi-dirigé, les habiletés pragmatiques de l'enfant ont été renseignées sur une grille d'observation répertoriant les comportements verbaux, non verbaux et infra-verbaux. Cette grille a également été remplie par la suite grâce à un test objectif et étalonné (Shulman). Ces deux outils complémentaires ont permis de faire une évaluation aussi précise que possible de la compétence pragmatique au cours des explorations langagières. Cette étude met en avant le caractère complexe des relations existant entre compétence linguistique et compétence pragmatique. Leur développement n'est en effet pas toujours symétrique mais pour la majorité des enfants, compétences linguistique et pragmatique sont liées.

Many of their families struggle with the legacy of residential schools that ripped families apart and caused immeasurable damage to the social fabric. Schools serving these communities work within a context that may include poverty, learned helplessness, despair, and high levels of abuse, addictions and violence. For some communities, student suicide rates may exceed graduation rates. Yet despite many extraordinary challenges, some schools are producing tangible progress for their Aboriginal students.
