Book excerpt: "During the course of researching one's family history, there never seems to be a perfect time to pause and start construction of a written account of the family. Even after investing considerable time and effort, there are always many open questions particularly with regard to the earlier generations. It has taken about twenty years of exploring many possibilities to finally identify the immigrant of my Miller line. This ancestor, Ludwig Miller, came to this country in 1740s from Germany and migrated across Pennsylvania ending up in Fayette Co., PA where he died in 1813. Legend has it that he came from Nuremburg in Bavaria, Germany but, so far, records have not been found to be totally certain of this claim of origin. Nevertheless, it is clear that Ludwig and his family were part of important periods in the settlement of this country, namely, a time of major immigration movements from Germany to America and subsequent major migrations across this country including from the east coast to the eastern ridges of the Appalachians, across the Allegheny Mountains to s/w Pennsylvania and then down the Ohio River to Kentucky. So, the primary purpose of this writing is to present a clear picture of the ancestral settlement of this country and to trace his descendants to the present time. Those direct descendants from Ludwig were David Sr., David Jr., William David, Thomas Henry, Irvin Gilbert and me. In addition, there were several families closely associated with or related to this Miller line. Since these families were a key part of this Miller story, the pertinent facts and events pertaining to them have been interwoven into the narrative."--[preface].
