Book Synopsis Hydrodynamic Lubrication by : J. Frene
Download or read book Hydrodynamic Lubrication written by J. Frene and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-11-10 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydrodynamic Lubrication is the culmination of over 20 years close, collaborative work by the five authors and discusses the practical use of the formalization of low pressure lubrication. The work concentrates on the developments to journal and thrust bearings and includes subjects such as: • the dynamic behaviour of plain and tilting-pads • the thermal aspects • the positive and negative effects of non-cyclindricity and shape defects resulting from manufacturing or operation • the effects of inertia • the appearance of Taylor's vortices and of turbulence and their repercussions. The book contains an abundance of test results objectively compared with theoretical conclusions and a chapter on "technical considerations" to ensure that draft mechanisms will work satisfactorily under the imposed conditions. Hydrodynamic Lubrication is an essential reference book for future and practising engineers who want to put hydrodynamic and hydrostatic journal bearings and thrust bearings into operation under conditions of total safety.

Book Synopsis Rheology and Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication by : B.O. Jacobson
Download or read book Rheology and Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication written by B.O. Jacobson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-07-24 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a thorough overview on recent developments in lubricant rheology, elastohydrodynamic lubrication and the effects of surface roughness and particulate contamination in the lubricant on the overall behaviour of a heavily loaded lubricated contact. One of the aims of the book is to make clear to the reader that a Newtonian model for the lubricant behaviour does not have enough degrees of freedom to be able to describe the friction - traction behaviour of heavily loaded lubricated contacts or the oil film build-up and collapse under surface asperities for rough surfaces. The book contains quite a lot of experimental data of lubricants at high pressures, both solidification pressures, compressibilities and shear strength increase coefficients, which make it possible to estimate the friction and power loss in heavily loaded lubricated contacts for different pressures, temperatures, sliding speeds, and lubricant types. This is the first time that data of this type has been included in a textbook and it is hoped that the questions highlighted will serve to initiate and guide future research in this field.
Book Synopsis On the Use of Model Order Reduction Techniques for the Elastohydrodynamic Contact Problem by : Maier, Daniel
Download or read book On the Use of Model Order Reduction Techniques for the Elastohydrodynamic Contact Problem written by Maier, Daniel and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2015-05-12 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this work is to develop a method which solves the nonlinear elastohydrodynamic contact problem in a fast and precise way using model order reduction techniques. The reduction procedure is based on a projection onto a low-dimensional subspace using different hyper-reduction procedures. The method provides fast and highly accurate reduced order models for stationary and transient, Newtonian and Non-Newtonian EHD line and point contact problems.

Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Two-Fluid Dynamics by : Daniel D. Joseph
Download or read book Fundamentals of Two-Fluid Dynamics written by Daniel D. Joseph and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two-fluid dynamics is a challenging subject rich in physics and prac tical applications. Many of the most interesting problems are tied to the loss of stability which is realized in preferential positioning and shaping of the interface, so that interfacial stability is a major player in this drama. Typically, solutions of equations governing the dynamics of two fluids are not uniquely determined by the boundary data and different configurations of flow are compatible with the same data. This is one reason why stability studies are important; we need to know which of the possible solutions are stable to predict what might be observed. When we started our studies in the early 1980's, it was not at all evident that stability theory could actu ally work in the hostile environment of pervasive nonuniqueness. We were pleasantly surprised, even astounded, by the extent to which it does work. There are many simple solutions, called basic flows, which are never stable, but we may always compute growth rates and determine the wavelength and frequency of the unstable mode which grows the fastest. This proce dure appears to work well even in deeply nonlinear regimes where linear theory is not strictly valid, just as Lord Rayleigh showed long ago in his calculation of the size of drops resulting from capillary-induced pinch-off of an inviscid jet.

Book Synopsis Thin Films in Tribology by : G. Dalmaz
Download or read book Thin Films in Tribology written by G. Dalmaz and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1993-09-06 with total page 763 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tribological properties of relatively moving surfaces are greatly influenced by thin surface films which are of considerable importance in the design of machine components. From Victorian days when working lubricant films were calculated in tens of micrometres, to today when molecular dynamics simulations and even experiments are beginning to look at nanometre, single molecule thick films, the study of surfaces which is the tribologists' challenge has moved to finer and finer scales. The 66 papers in this volume provide reviews across the tribological field with thin films as their theme, giving a comprehensive and concise description on topics ranging from coatings and surface modification to bio-tribology. The articles provide the reader with an outline of their most effective application and potential uses in new technologies. The volume will be of interest not only to research workers and design engineers in the fields of new machine developments and lubrication, but also to engineers and students specialising in tribology.
