Book Synopsis Management of Natural Resources, Sustainable Development and Ecological Hazards III by : C. A. Brebbia
Download or read book Management of Natural Resources, Sustainable Development and Ecological Hazards III written by C. A. Brebbia and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 689 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of the third in a now-biennial series organized by the Wessex Institute of Technology around the urgent need to determine solutions regarding sustainable development before our planet reaches a point of irreversibility. The aggressive search for new sources of energy and materials, the rapid rate at which natural resources are being consumed, and the destructiveness of the resulting pollution are all having a negative impact on the planet that needs to be stopped, if not reversed. As at the first two, participants at this conference will take stock of our situation and try to facilitate constructive principles and policies for a way forward, something that can only be done by transdisciplinary cooperation. Thus papers will examine ethical, political and social issues, health, safety and risk, lessons from nature, planning and development, and new technologies.
Book Synopsis The Sustainable World by : C. A. Brebbia
Download or read book The Sustainable World written by C. A. Brebbia and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 817 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a collection of papers presented at a series of meetings organised by the Wessex Institute of Technology (WIT) dealing with sustainability, the environment and ecological issues. The complexity of the modern world presents new challenges to scientists and engineers that requires finding interdisciplinary solutions. Any problem solving carried out in the isolation of a particular field of expertise may give rise to a series of damaging effects which can create new and unintentional environmental and ecological problems. Specialisation, while required in our culture, needs to be kept under control by the understanding of the whole, which leads to the need of relying on interdisciplinary teams. Nowadays this can be easily achieved thanks to the massive advances in information technology which ensure continuous and immediate contact between all partners. This collaboration needs to be effective and to produce results that will lead to a better world. For this to happen, it is necessary that different groups of scientists and engineers acquire the necessary skills to be able to talk to each other. Furthermore, they need to understand the social and economic aspects of a given problem, in addition to the scientific and engineering issues involved. The Wessex Institute of Technology (WIT) has a long and very successful record in organising interdisciplinary conferences. The papers in this book are a reflection of the proceedings of some of those meetings.

Book Synopsis Social Welfare East and West by : John F Doling
Download or read book Social Welfare East and West written by John F Doling and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-01 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title was first published in 2000: An exploration of the ways in which social welfare in two countries, half a world apart, may have similarities. Through identification of the differences and similarities of social welfare in Britain and Malaysia, the editors hope that we may be able to learn from one another as well as to contribute to debates both in our countries about how to respond to globalization and about global social policy. Accordingly, the contributors arranged themselves into pairs - one Malaysian, one British - to write reviews of one of each of the six areas of social welfare. Along with an opening chapter in which the aim was to identify a number of frameworks and issues that would allow the rest to be put into a context, the 12 chapters, each restricted to around 5000 words, provide a service-by-service account.

Book Synopsis Trends and Issues in Housing in Asia by : Urmi Sengupta
Download or read book Trends and Issues in Housing in Asia written by Urmi Sengupta and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-07-06 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive overview of current housing practices across Asian cities based on facts and trends in the market. For many countries in Asia, the future of housing is now. This future is closely linked to successful theoretical advancement and policy practice in housing studies. This volume brings together twelve chapters divided across four thematic parts that sum up the concept and conditionality of housing in Asian cities. It studies housing through conceptual perspectives and empirical studies to explore established notions, cultures and practices relevant to the 21st-century post-reform context in Asia. Housing and property have long been economic drivers, leading many individual households towards better lives and associated social and community benefits, while also collectively improving the economic base of a city or country. This book examines the nature of the interplay of both state and market in the housing outcomes of these cities. With its extensive geographic coverage across South East Asia, South Asia, and the Far East and a cross section of different income groups, the book will interest reseachers and scholars in urban studies, architecture, development studies, public policy, political studies, sociology, policymakers in local and central governments, housing and planning professionals and commercial firms engaged in property markets or real estate in Asia. It will also provide ideas, tools and good practices for institutional enablement, stakeholders involved in these interventions, private sector organisations and NGOs.

Book Synopsis Legal Issues in the Rehabilitation of Abandoned Housing Projects (UUM Press) by : Nuarrual Hilal Md. Dahlan
Download or read book Legal Issues in the Rehabilitation of Abandoned Housing Projects (UUM Press) written by Nuarrual Hilal Md. Dahlan and published by UUM Press. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abandoned housing project is one of the housing problems in Peninsular Malaysia. Even though there are laws and policies provided by the Malaysian Government to control the housing industry, the abandoned housing project is still an unsettled issue for the Malaysian Government to tackle. The real victims are the purchasers themselves. There is virtually no standard common way to face the problems of abandoned housing projects. Likewise, there is no similar specific method to deal with the rehabilitation of abandoned housing projects. This is due to the fact that in every abandoned housing project and its rehabilitation, the problem and issues faced by the stakeholders vary. Thus different methods are used to deal with the problems, especially to rehabilitate the projects. If the project is not variable for rehabilitation, the project will be stalled forever without any prospects for rehabilitation, to the detriment of the purchasers. This book discusses the law and practice in rehabilitating abandoned housing project in Peninsular Malaysia. Certain suggestions are also provided in this modest book for facing the problems of abandoned housing projects and their rehabilitation in Peninsular Malaysia and for the betterment of the housing industry in Peninsular Malaysia.
