This book was released on 2023-03-08 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2023-504/ The Nordic region aims to be a forerunner in the transition to circular economy. This project aimed to find areas, industries, and sectors, and potential in them, important for the circular transition in the Nordics. The barriers for unleashing the potential were also studied.Four areas of industry and two cross-cutting drivers were selected for the study. The bioeconomy, the food and beverage sector, building and construction, and the mobility sector play a prominent role in the Nordic economies. They are also responsible for significant emissions and waste. The drivers – applying new circular business models and better exploiting data/digitalisation – can bring change that holds promise for significant benefits. The study’s results are summed up in a set of recommendations addressing how the barriers can be torn down and how positive impacts of circular transition can be supported.

Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/politiknord2022-724/ In 2019, the Nordic prime ministers adopted a vision for the Nordic Region to be the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by the year 2030. The Nordic Council of Ministers was tasked with steering Nordic co-operation towards delivering this vision. The Nordic Council of Ministers is following a special action plan in its efforts relating to the vision for the period 2021 to 2024. Now, after almost two years, a mid-point evaluation has been produced. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine during the period, the Nordic Council of Ministers has delivered concrete results and made an impact. The activities of the Nordic Council of Ministers are being steered towards supporting the Nordic countries as well as possible in their realisation of the vision. Efforts relating to the green transition have been bolstered by way of DKK 120 million in additional funding thanks to a budget redistribution in the period 2021 to 2024. The mid-point evaluation was approved by the Ministers for Nordic Co-operation in September 2022.

Book Synopsis THE NORDIC REGION – a sustainable and integrated region? by : Nordic Council of Ministers Secretariat
Download or read book THE NORDIC REGION – a sustainable and integrated region? written by Nordic Council of Ministers Secretariat and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/politiknord2023-728/ Our Vision 2030 describes what it will take to make the Nordic Region the most sustainable and integrated region in the world. The sheer ambition makes it important to monitor progress closely. To this end, the Nordic Council of Ministers commissioned Rambøll Management Consulting to conduct baseline measurements back in 2021. The idea was to map out the starting point for work on the vision. This status report follows up on the baseline measurements and assesses progress towards realising the vision. It is based on the 45 indicators adopted by the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2021 and the methodology used for the baseline report. Overall, the 2023 status report shows that the Nordic Region remains on track to become the most sustainable and integrated region in the world. This is particularly true for the visions of a competitive Nordic Region and a socially sustainable Nordic Region. However, there is room for improvement with regard to the visions for a green Nordic Region.
Book Synopsis Can economic instruments promote a circular economy? by : Eriksson, Flintull Annica
Download or read book Can economic instruments promote a circular economy? written by Eriksson, Flintull Annica and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on with total page 85 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2024-505/ The report analyses the potential of developing new economic instruments or modifying existing ones to promote the transition towards a circular economy, with examples from the textile- and construction sector. The results are similar for the two sectors. Economic instruments that could promote circularity include environmental taxes, such as natural resource taxes, import taxes, waste taxes, as well as Extended Producer Responsibility, VAT, and subsidies. A more in-depth analysis of the implementation of environmental taxes in the respective sectors show that taxes can be used to affect the market and consumer behaviour. However, the results indicate that the tax level needs to be relatively high to boost a shift towards circular economy. The results also show the difficulty in anticipating environmental and socio-economic impacts of a tax.

Book Synopsis Business Models for the Circular Economy by : Viktor Prokop
Download or read book Business Models for the Circular Economy written by Viktor Prokop and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-10-17 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increased ecological awareness and the growing scarcity of resources have led to the introduction of new environmental standards, triggering enterprises, regions, and even countries to adopt new business models and industrial reconversion approaches. However, despite increased interest in business models and their innovation, it still lacks the integration of circularity and sustainability and to date research on these areas is still limited. This book, therefore, provides readers with a closer picture of the issues of business models and their innovation for the circular economy in Europe, where the issues of sustainability and the shift towards the circular economy have become cornerstones of European policies and documents and where significant differences have been identified between firms and countries. This book provides a unique view of different European perspectives and enables the reader to compare the situation in countries with completely different historical and economic conditions as well as with different perceptions of the need for the actions leading to the sustainable development and to the shift towards the circular economy.
Book Synopsis Pre-study: Indicators on circular economy in the Nordic countries by : Bauer, Bjørn
Download or read book Pre-study: Indicators on circular economy in the Nordic countries written by Bauer, Bjørn and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2020-12-21 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2020-543/ A systematic and continuously measurement of the progress towards the circular economy can inform decision making and policies, and thus strengthen the circular transition. However, this pre-study, mapping circular economy indicators across the Nordic countries on both national and sub-national level, reveals that as of 2020, data streams and indicators are missing for the inner loops of the circular economy. A monitoring system embracing only selected aspects of the circular economy (where data is readily available) risks exaggerating the focus on these areas and downgrade the importance of other areas where data is unattainable, even though the latter may (in principle) be creating more circular value (such as prolonging products’ lifetimes).

Book Synopsis COVID-19 POLICY RESPONSES AND GREEN RECOVERY IN THE NORDIC REGION by : Baldursson, Friðrik Már
Download or read book COVID-19 POLICY RESPONSES AND GREEN RECOVERY IN THE NORDIC REGION written by Baldursson, Friðrik Már and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on 2022-05-20 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2022-527/ This report assesses the “green stimulus” relevance of the covid-19 stimulus measures in the Nordic region. By green stimulus we mean measures that can achieve economic stimulus while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing environmental and natural resource quality. All Nordic countries have implemented comprehensive covid-19 stimulus packages, amounting to between 2000 euro per capita in Finland to 4400 euro per capita in Denmark. We identified that at least 6-21 percent of the measures suit the definition as green stimulus in terms of decreasing greenhouse gas emissions. A lower share, at least 2-13 percent, contribute to increase greenhouse gas emissions. The picture is almost the same for the environment. The remaining measures are either assessed as not having any significant impact on emissions or the environment.
Book Synopsis Reuse, recycling and recovery of construction and demolition waste in the Nordic countries by : Svedmyr, Katarina
Download or read book Reuse, recycling and recovery of construction and demolition waste in the Nordic countries written by Svedmyr, Katarina and published by Nordic Council of Ministers. This book was released on with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available online: https://pub.norden.org/temanord2023-544/ This publication addresses the challenges in managing Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) in the Nordic countries including an outlook on other European countries. Despite a 70% recovery target, the Nordics lag behind due to economic, legislative, and social barriers. The study emphasizes the need for better CDW statistics and highlights successful European initiatives. Key findings include that the barriers do not seem to be technical feasibility, but rather include economic obstacles, and regional variations in recycling. Recommendations include unified approaches, regulations, and stronger incentives for reuse and recycling of CDW. The study advocates waste prevention through reuse and design strategies for future constructions, emphasizing collaboration within the Nordics and the EU.
