Book excerpt: Modern love has new colours, and true love, to be honest, is on the decline. With the passage of time, It has been turning in a new direction. In the metropolitan cities, it is no more a matter of heart. People are loving with a perfect plan that works in their favour. Students have given it a new name, friendship. They don’t want their love to be called something else. For some boys and girls it has become commercial. Love in Delhi Metro is a satire on the young generation living in the metropolitan cities. Boys and girls pretend to love each other, but that’s not the case. There are no feelings in them. They have some purpose under their sleeves. Boys long for romance while girls want only shopping at any cost. The story deals with this theme. Both characters have their set goals, especially the girl. She has to buy clothes, and therefore she makes him believe that she has a crush on him. But the boy has no such a target. It is a different matter that he engages in kissing her and later on becomes errotic. The girl doesn’t offer any resistance. Actually, she is on a mission. The book highlights this type of love in a crystal clear way. I’m sure the readers will like it will give them a clear picture of what has been happening in the name of love in Delhi.

Book Synopsis New Delhi Love Songs by : MICHAEL. CREIGHTON
Download or read book New Delhi Love Songs written by MICHAEL. CREIGHTON and published by Speaking Tiger Books. This book was released on 2017-12-10 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sensational debut collection of poems by a fresh new voice 'In these whimsical, deeply affectionate poems, New Delhi is both context and protagonist, alive in its dust, smog and everydayness, in the vibrant colour of the first lychees of the season, in the mysteries that lie between "city and sprawl." The city finds an ardent archivist in Michael Creighton--one who stoutly keeps the faith that "warm rains" will always "come to clear the dust." Suffused by rare tenderness, these poems return through the welter of streets and residences to an address that remains at the abiding centre of this book--the place that the poet terms "the place I imagine my heart to be."'--Arundhathi Subramaniam 'New Delhi Love Songs is a collection abounding with shakarkandiwalas, jasmine-sellers, FM radios and cyclists, the Ghaziabad flower market and Moolchand flyover; the Delhi all around us, the Delhi of "your flesh, your seeds, / your skin," of "sweat and soil / mixed with clover, sun and wind." Unusual, deeply affecting in their attentiveness to life that seldom makes headlines, these poems reinforce the skeins of humanity that sustain us. They are tender and droll--two qualities we desperately need, in the capital but also elsewhere--yet steadfast in their eschewal of easy sentimentality and facile observations. New Delhi Love Songs makes the heart ache; but also sing, from time to time, for this is where "even a dead river looks lovely."' --Karthika Nair

Book Synopsis The Reluctant Mother by : Zehra Naqvi
Download or read book The Reluctant Mother written by Zehra Naqvi and published by Hay House, Inc. This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Reluctant Mother is a book of rage. Rage at being alone in your pain, having your conflict belittled, and your struggles trivialised. It is the story of a young woman who seeks to find herself in a world that constantly tries to define her and who she should be. It is the memoir of an anti-mother. A woman who doesn’t fall in love with her baby at first sight but discovers love along the way. This book is for anyone who feels overwhelmed by the idea of ‘ideal’ motherhood. Be it a woman or a man, one way of confronting trauma is to know that you are not alone in it. To know that someone shares your story and understands your emotions and guilt that accompanies feeling anything other than ‘perfectly blissful’ about motherhood. It is at once heartbreaking and poignant as it is hopeful and comforting. It is the story of one woman and yet the life of many. It reveals how tradition and modernity, faith and reason, pleasure and pain are all so intimately interwoven for women that their true sense of self is inevitably one of contradictions. The book’s biggest strength lies in its rawness and honesty. Nothing but the truth stands here.

Download or read book Ensemble written by Jasveer Singh Dangi and published by Ukiyoto Publishing. This book was released on 2021-09-21 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I had no specific topic in my mind when I started writing this book. Each time the 'hat' (my brain) initiated its magic, it brought out something new, just like a magician's hat. This book is a collection of random stories which bear no connection with each other. Some are a creation of my weird imagination while others are random thoughts and precious memories. It also comprises some stories from my life. It has something for everyone-from adventure to thriller to horror to everyday life situations- sometimes involving confused thoughts, motivational articles and essays, and some of my childhood stories from the 80s. The 'Ensemble' is my first attempt at creating an anthology and compiling different stories in a single book. It is an attempt to cook a perfect magic potion through various stories by mixing different emotional ingredients. Just say abracadabra and teleport into a world full of stories. See you on the other side!

Book excerpt: What exactly is a crowd? How do crowds differ from other large gatherings of people? And how do they transform emotions, politics, or faith? In Crowds, contributors draw on their experiences and expertise to reflect on their encounters with crowds. Each chapter examines a particular crowd or conception of crowdedness to provide an analysis of how, when, where—and with whom—crowds form in different contexts, as well as their purpose and the practical effect the experience has on both the participants and their environment. The wide selection of case studies ranges from the crowds that form every year during the Hajj, to New Year celebrations in China, commuters on the Delhi metro, public prayer in Nigeria, online mobs in Bangladesh, and the crowds that have emerged during protest movements in Thailand and Syria. Crowds makes a key contribution to establishing an anthropological theory of crowds and will be an essential read for both students and researchers.
Download or read book No. 91/92 written by Lauren Elkin and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2021-09-14 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A love letter to Paris and a meditation on how it has changed in two decades, evolving from the twentieth century into the twenty-first, from analog to digital. Your telephone is precious. It may be envied. We recommend vigilance when using it in public. --Paris bus public notice In fall 2014 Lauren Elkin began keeping a diary of her bus commutes in the Notes app on her iPhone 5c, writing down the interesting things and people she saw in a Perecquian homage to Bus Lines 91 and 92, which she took from her apartment in the 5th Arrondissement to her teaching job in the 7th. Reading the notice, she decided to be vigilant when using her phone: she would carry out a public transport vigil, using it to take in the world around her and notice all the things she would miss if she continued using it the way she had been, the way everyone does--to surf the web, check social media, maintain her daily sense of self through digital interaction. Her goal became to observe the world through the screen of her phone, rather than using her phone to distract from the world. During the course of that academic year, the Charlie Hebdo attacks occurred and Elkin had an ectopic pregnancy, requiring emergency surgery. At that point, her diary of dailiness became a study of the counterpoint between the everyday and the Event, mediated through early twenty-first century technology, and observed from the height of a bus seat. No. 91/92 is a love letter to Paris, and a meditation on how it has changed in the two decades the author has lived there, evolving from the twentieth century into the twenty-first, from analog to digital.
