Download or read book Loveable written by Kelly Flanagan and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2017-03-21 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kelly Flanagan is a psychologist, father, and blogger who is best known for the letters he has written to his children on his blog, one of which landed him on The Today Show with his four-year-old daughter. In Loveable, Flanagan answers three fundamental human questions: Am I enough? How do I become unlonely? Do I matter? He shows us how to rediscover our worthiness and remember that we are good enough. He encourages us to shed the false self that keeps us lonely and to find people who accept us as we are. And he inspires us to fully embrace our passions, regardless of how ordinary those passions may be. Reading like an extended love letter to readers, Loveable uncovers three essential truths: you are enough, you are not alone, and you matter. Flanagan invites us to disconnect from the distractions and demands of daily life and to listen more intently for the voice of grace within each of us, so we might fully awaken to the redemptive story we are here to live.
Book Synopsis The Lovable Antichrist by : Carol Drake Wheatley
Download or read book The Lovable Antichrist written by Carol Drake Wheatley and published by WestBowPress. This book was released on 2013-10-25 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered how the very elect of God will be deceived? Have you ever imagined it could actually happen to you? Well, it has! The Lovable Antichrist is a warning from God to His elect. It will help you identify the antichrist(s) in your life and why they are lovable to you. It identifies some of the myths and deceptions that have crept (and even boldly marched) into the church. These teachings have solidly established themselves as mainstay doctrines, almost replacing the gospel as it was once preached. The modern church is in a degraded condition and weakened to a point that many do not even know how to draw upon Gods power in challenging situations. Because we live in an age of grace, weve been given the freedom to create this convoluted mess, but weve also been given the latitude and knowledge to fix it. The Lovable Antichrist is more than just a wake-up call from the Lord; it is a warning and a solution. We are facing a difficult future when church as usual wont cut it for Christians. Were going to have to overcome challenges in which only Gods word and Gods way will work. It is imperative that we learn to walk in the truths of the Bible. It is imperative that we heed this warning!
Book Synopsis Lovable Racists, Magical Negroes, and White Messiahs by : David Ikard
Download or read book Lovable Racists, Magical Negroes, and White Messiahs written by David Ikard and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dismantles popular white supremacist tropes, which effectively devalue black life and trivialize black oppression. Ikard investigates the tenacity and cultural capital of white redemption narratives in literature and popular media from Uncle Tom's Cabin to The Help. He invalidates the fiction of a postracial society while awakening us to the sobering reality that we must continue to fight for racial equality or risk losing the hard-fought gains of the Civil Rights movement. Through his close reading of novels, films, journalism, and political campaigns, Ikard analyzes willful white blindness and attendant master narratives of white redemption--arguing powerfully that he who controls the master narrative controls the perception of reality. The book sounds the alarm about seemingly innocuous tropes of white redemption that abound in our society and generate the notion that blacks are perpetually indebted to whites for liberating, civilizing, and enlightening them. --From publisher description.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the years leading up to the World Wars, Germany and Austria saw an unprecedented increase in the study and depiction of the criminal. Science, journalism and crime fiction were obsessed with delinquents while ignoring the social causes of crime. As criminologists measured criminals' heads and debated biological predestination, court reporters and crime writers wrote side-splitting or heart-rending stories featuring one of the most popular characters ever created--the hilarious or piteous crook. The author examines the figure of the crook and notions of "Jewish" criminality in a range of antisemitic writing, from Nazi propaganda to court reporting to forgotten classics of crime fiction.

As the legendary Jony Ive, Apple's former Chief Design Officer, once said, the challenge is "to solve incredibly complex problems and make their resolution appear inevitable and incredibly simple". Today, as technology becomes more complex than we can process, how do we hold on to that precious thread of simplicity? How do we design products and systems that are human-centred? How do we put innovation back in our own hands, even as we drive radical digital transformation? The Simplicity Playbook for Innovators shows the way. It introduces five strategic shifts that will transform the way you look at your business - from customer research to product/service development. In each strategic shift, you will find a wealth of practical tools that have been applied and tested, particularly in legacy companies dealing with complex processes and systems. When we focus on simplicity instead of innovation-for-the-sake-of-innovation, customers love the experience. With this illuminating step-by-step guide, you will rediscover how to focus on what really matters for your business, and learn the methods to create experiences that win customers' hearts
Book Synopsis Comic Drunks, Crazy Cults, and Lovable Monsters by : David Scott Diffrient
Download or read book Comic Drunks, Crazy Cults, and Lovable Monsters written by David Scott Diffrient and published by Syracuse University Press. This book was released on 2022-12-01 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contradictory to its core, the sitcom—an ostensibly conservative, tranquilizing genre—has a long track record in the United States of tackling controversial subjects with a fearlessness not often found in other types of programming. But the sitcom also conceals as much as it reveals, masking the rationale for socially deviant or deleterious behavior behind figures of ridicule whose motives are rarely disclosed fully over the course of a thirty-minute episode. Examining a broad range of network and cable TV shows across the history of the medium, from classic, working-class comedies such as The Honeymooners, All in the Family, and Roseanne to several contemporary cult series, animated programs, and online hits that have yet to attract much scholarly attention, this book explores the ways in which social imaginaries related to "bad behavior" have been humorously exploited over the years. The repeated appearance of socially wayward figures on the small screen—from raging alcoholics to brainwashed cult members to actual monsters who are merely exaggerated versions of our own inner demons—has the dual effect of reducing complex individuals to recognizable "types" while neutralizing the presumed threats that they pose. Such representations not only provide strangely comforting reminders that "badness" is a cultural construct, but also prompt audiences to reflect on their own unspoken proclivities for antisocial behavior, if only in passing.

Download or read book Laughter, The Best Medicine: Those Lovable Pets written by Editors of Reader's Digest and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2012-02-02 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People are funny, but so are the animals we love-and our day-to-day relationships with them can be even more entertaining. Dogs and cats obviously rule the comedic roost, but parrots, parakeets, and other talking birds are often an endless source of amusement as well. Even our connection to bunnies, hamsters, and the occasional white rat can evoke a good laugh. The 500-plus pet anecdotes, cartoons, and quotes in Laughter Is The Best Medicine: Those Lovable Pets have been collected from more than eight decades' worth of Reader's Digest magazines and are guaranteed to cheer up your day. You'll meet the woman whose dog trembled at the "Beware of Dog" sign in their front yard until she told him, "Relax! It's you!"; the vet whose advice to a woman whose cat had swallowed lots of unpopped popcorn was, "first, keep him out of the sun"; the mother-in-law who concealed her way-too-plump piglet's weight loss pills in ice cream; and much more. Our furry or fine feathered friends not only warm our hearts but also amuse us (and our joke writers, too) with their antics-one reason, no doubt, the market for this book is so vast: At the minimum, 40 percent of American households own at least one pet.
