Book Synopsis Applications of Space Developments by : L. G. Napolitano
Download or read book Applications of Space Developments written by L. G. Napolitano and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applications of Space Developments covers the proceedings of the 31st Annual Congress of the International Astronautical Federation on Applications of Space Developments, held in Tokyo, Japan. The contributors consider the significant achievements and activities in Japan in the main areas of space applications, such as telecommunications, earth and ocean observation, materials sciences, and space processes. This book is organized into 22 chapters, which reflect the four main areas covered in the Annual Congress, including Earth-Oriented Applications of Space Technology, Earth Observations, Low-Gravity Environment, and Communication Satellites. The first chapters deal with the monitoring of earth and ocean energy resources, earth satellite power stations, energy conversion and transfer, structure technology, system fabrication and assembly of large space structures, and, nuclear waste disposal in space. The succeeding chapters are devoted to weather satellites, earth and ocean dynamics, earth and atmosphere pollution, payloads for earth and ocean observations, data analysis. These topics are followed by discussions on the theoretical and experimental aspects of microgravity materials, fluid and life sciences, the simulation of microgravity environment on earth, the effects of weightlessness on man, and the earth applications of space experiments. The concluding chapters survey the operational, experimental, and communication satellites systems, with emphasis on economic aspects and on the prospects of TV satellites. This book will prove useful to space scientists and technologists, astronomers, and satellite and communications engineers.
Book Synopsis Constructal Human Dynamics, Security and Sustainability by : A. Bejan
Download or read book Constructal Human Dynamics, Security and Sustainability written by A. Bejan and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2009-02-26 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalization, security infrastructure and energy sustainability can be designed based on a scientific principle. In this book, these objectives are approached based on constructal theory, which means to design such projects as global ‘flow’ architectures that are ‘alive’ with movement of personnel, equipment, information, education, etc. Constructal Human Dynamics, Security and Sustainability highlights the progress made during the NATO Advanced Research Workshop held in Évora, Portugal in May 2008. This workshop brought together social scientists with physicists, engineers and biologists. Together they addressed main topics such as human dynamics viewed as natural phenomena of design generation, flow networks for distribution and collection, large-scale construction projects (e.g., airports, waste storage), logistics, decontamination, energy supply routes, distributed energy systems, water resources management, environmental security sustainability and globalization. The chapters selected for this book represent the interdisciplinary approach and team atmosphere that emerged in Évora.

This book was released on 2011 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the latest developments in crosslinguistic influence (CLI) and multilingualism research. The contributors situate their research in current debates and present it in an accessible way. They consider CLI in lexis, syntax, tense-aspect, morphology, phonology of multilingual production and link it to concepts such as redundancy, affordances, metalinguistic awareness and L2 status.

Book Synopsis Intelligent Learning Environments: The Case of Geometry by : Jean-Marie Laborde
Download or read book Intelligent Learning Environments: The Case of Geometry written by Jean-Marie Laborde and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a thoroughly revised result, updated to mid-1995, of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on "Intelligent Learning Environments: the case of geometry", held in Grenoble, France, November 13-16, 1989. The main aim of the workshop was to foster exchanges among researchers who were concerned with the design of intelligent learning environments for geometry. The problem of student modelling was chosen as a central theme of the workshop, insofar as geometry cannot be reduced to procedural knowledge and because the significance of its complexity makes it of interest for intelligent tutoring system (ITS) development. The workshop centred around the following themes: modelling the knowledge domain, modelling student knowledge, design ing "didactic interaction", and learner control. This book contains revised versions of the papers presented at the workshop. All of the chapters that follow have been written by participants at the workshop. Each formed the basis for a scheduled presentation and discussion. Many are suggestive of research directions that will be carried out in the future. There are four main issues running through the papers presented in this book: • knowledge about geometry is not knowledge about the real world, and materialization of geometrical objects implies a reification of geometry which is amplified in the case of its implementation in a computer, since objects can be manipulated directly and relations are the results of actions (Laborde, Schumann). This aspect is well exemplified by research projects focusing on the design of geometric microworlds (Guin, Laborde).
