Book excerpt: Tell me, little butterfly, what would you do for love? In the wake of a crushing defeat, Tisaanah and Maxatarius have been ripped apart. Tisaanah is desperate to rescue Max from his imprisonment, even as her people's fight for freedom grows more treacherous. But within the walls of Ilyzath, Max's mind is a shadow of what it once was... leaving his past a mystery and his future at the mercy of Ara's new, ruthless queen. Meanwhile, in the Fey lands, Aefe has been dragged back into this world by a king who vows to destroy civilizations in her name. But even as her past returns to claim her, her former self is a stranger. Tisaanah, Max, and Aefe are thrust into the center of a cataclysm between the human and Fey worlds. The unique magic they share is key to either winning the war, or ending it. But that power demands sacrifice. Tisaanah may be forced to choose between love and duty. Max cannot forge his future without confronting his past. And Aefe must decide between reclaiming who she was, or embracing who she has become. The choices they make will either reshape this world forever...or end it. In the harrowing finale of the War of Lost Hearts trilogy, a tale of romance, magic, vengeance, and redemption comes to a close -- perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Miranda Honfleur, and Danielle Jenson.

Faith is the evidence, patience is a virtue and suspense is the attraction. Weaved in a vast arena with vivid scenarios from four continents he reveals an epic voyage of courage and hope in a quest for the reason behind his existence. Cephas is the man and life is a mystery. Book excerpt: As a young nine year old boy one night began a series of dreams and continuing for several nights. Unfolded the story you are about to read. Writing while in the genes didnt come easy, in deed these words have been revised many times to correct grammatical errors, phraseology and an untidy script. The first draft was in freehand and later on to a storyboard outlining the start, middle and ending of each chapter just as the dreams presented them. Years went by as life took on its importance but the story just wouldnt leave my thoughts. Why this story needs telling is unsure but then perhaps many authors might say a similar thing. The saga in brief is of a young boy receiving a strange and curious gift that is the start of a journey leading him on to the save humanity. He though must spend his childhood alone with all but minimal contact with the only person who knows he is still alive, his mother. She in total self-isolation lives out the years full of hope and love. He learns his origin and that his race was marooned here six millennia ago and that by their presence changed the course of the indigenous populations evolution. He learns also that the planet is in grave danger from the very craft that brought them here and he must find a solution quickly. The story is told as a narrative. Life circumstances shelved the unfinished manuscript for more years than I can recall but it wasnt out of disrespect to the story on the contrary the story wanted me to experience some life first. I hope you enjoy reading this novel as much as I have enjoyed writing it and forgive the sometimes simplicity of it.

Book excerpt: Metro Movies: Cinematic Urbanism in Post-Mao China takes readers on a comprehensive tour of the urbanization of Chinese cinema. Focusing primarily on movies from the end of the twentieth century, it is the first single-authored work to explore the relationship between the changes in Chinese society—caused in part by the advent of postsocialism, the growth of cities, and globalization—and the transformation of Chinese cinema. Author Harry H. Kuoshu examines such themes as displacement, cinematic representation, youth subculture, the private emotional lives of emerging urbanites, raw urban realism, and the allegorical contrast of the city and the countryside to illustrate the artistic richness and cultural diversity of this cinematic genre. Kuoshu discusses the work of director Huang Jianxin, whose films follow and critique China’s changing urban political culture. He dedicates a chapter to filmmakers who followed Huang and attempted to redefine the concept of art films to regain the local audience. These directors address Chinese moviegoers’ disappointment with the international adoption of Chinese art films, their lack of interest in conventional Chinese films, and their fascination with emerging audio-video media. A considerable amount of attention is given to films of the 1990s, which focus on the social changes surfacing in China, from the trend of hooliganism and the Beijing rock scene to the arrival of an urban pop culture lifestyle driven by expansionist commerce and materialism. Kuoshu also explores recent films that confront the seedier aspects of city life, as well as films that demonstrate how urbanization has touched every fiber of Chinese living. Metro Movies illustrates how cinematic urbanism is no longer a genre indicator but is instead an era indicator, revealing the dominance of metropolitan living on modern Chinese culture. It gives new insight into contemporary Chinese politics and culture and provides readers with a better understanding of China’s urban cinema. This book will be an excellent addition to college film courses and will fascinate any reader with an interest in film studies or Chinese culture.
