La publicidad, el marketing, la propaganda política, la imágenes, las ficciones, los instrumentos tecnológicos, los estilos de vida y las formas de consumo, por citar sólo unos cuantos ámbitos de socialidad, han producido un ingente torrente de nuevos discursos que dan sentido a las prácticas de actores que se desenvuelven en un nuevo modo de regulación o en una nueva forma disciplinaria, caracterizada, precisa y paradójicamente, por la desregulación financiera y la violencia simbólica de la imposición de los códigos del mercado total. Este libro sin duda contribuye a esta reflexión, no tan frecuente, iluminando al lector el complejo mundo de la economía, la empresa y la política de Occidente.

Hay muchos miles de libros sobre conocimiento, en variadas disciplinas, y muchos cientos de libros sobre discurso. Sin embargo, pese a las múltiples e interesantes relaciones entre las dos nociones, no existe ni siquiera una monografía que, sistemáticamente, se centre en el estudio de esas relaciones. La intención de este libro es, justamente, hacer eso. En esta monografía hemos mostrado, necesariamente a los más altos y, por lo tanto, más superficiales niveles, que el estudio del conocimiento se debe llevar a cabo de una manera profundamente integrada, como acabamos de mostrar en las últimas décadas para el estudio del discurso.

Book excerpt: This book explores the discourse pragmatics of reportive evidentiality in Macedonian, Japanese and English through an empirical study of evidential strategies in narrative retelling. The patterns of evidential use (and non-use) found in these languages are attributed to contextual, cultural and grammatical factors that motivate the adoption of an 'epistemological stance' - a concept that owes much to recent trends in Cognitive Linguistics. The patterns of evidential strategies found in the three languages provide a fine illustration of the balancing act between speakers' expressions of their own subjectivity, their motivations to tell a coherent and exciting story, and their motivations to be faithful retellers of someone elses' story. These pressures are further complicated by the grammatical and pragmatic conventions that are particular to each language.
