Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Irreverent and provoking, the figure of the 'queer troublemaker' is a disruptive force both poetically and politically. Tracing the genealogy of this figure in modern avant-garde American poetry, Prudence Bussey-Chamberlain develops innovative close readings of the works of Gertrude Stein, Frank O'Hara, Eileen Myles and Maggie Nelson. Exploring how these writers play with identity, gender, sexuality and genre, Bussey-Chamberlain constructs a queer poetics of flippancy that can subvert ideas of success and failure, affect and affectation, performance and performativity, poetry and being.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the interaction between literary studies and the philosophy of literature. It features essays from internationally renowned and emerging philosophers and literary scholars, challenging readers to join them in taking seriously the notion of interdisciplinary study and forging forward in new and exciting directions of thought. It identifies that literary studies and the philosophy of literature address similar issues: What is literature? What is its value? Why do I care about characters? What is the role of the author in understanding a literary work? What is fiction as opposed to non-fiction? Yet, genuine, interdisciplinary interaction remains scarce. This collection seeks to overcome current obstacles and seek out new paths for exploration.

Book excerpt: That Was Then This Is Now; is a book that is basically about my trials and tribulations through mid-high school, teen years; and all the way up to now; as a young adult. It describes my life situation in general. This book deals with depression, darkness, spirituality, love, drama, hope and encouragement. I pray that it will uplift peoples lives and give them the perseverance that they need to cope with any personal issues in their life. I want it to aspire or inspire people like me and in general. I just want to make a difference in someones life. I want to cause a reaction in other lives; like the movie Pay it forward.

Book excerpt: Along with Samuel Beckett and Eugène Ionesco, Harold Pinter holds an undisputed place in the front ranks of contemporary dramatists. In volume two of his collected works, the plays and revue sketches mark a period of transition, as Pinter’s characters and settings become more recognizably realistic, in contrast to the absurdist atmosphere of his earlier work. The Caretaker, which first brought him fame on both sides of the Atlantic, was called “a play of strangely compelling beauty and passion” by Howard Taubman of The New York Times. An essay by Pinter, “Writing for Myself,” introduces this collection. Diego DeLorean, who was one of the wealthiest men in the United States, begins his journey from El Paso, Texas, all the way to the archeological sites in the grand state of Yucatan, Mexico, to get answers to his many questions. After losing his mother, his father, and his little brother to a ferocious plague, he miraculously found his way to Juarez, Mexico, which borders El Paso, Texas. There he was adopted by the DeLoreans. In June of 2012, he loses his entire family once again in a horrific airplane crash. In his devastation, he attempts to take his own life, but through a divine intervention, his attempt is futile, and instead he is inspired to find answers to questions that have haunted him all his life. He discovers who he truly is and where he comes from. These discoveries lead him to yet another journey that will forever change him and the world as we know it. 1

Book excerpt: Chapter ONE Poets of all ages and of all denominations are unanimous in assuring us that there was once a period on this grey earth known as the Golden Age. These irresponsible hards describe it in terms of the vaguest, most poetic splendour, and, apart from the fact, upon which they are all agreed, that the weather was always perfectly charming, we have to reconstruct its characteristics in the main for ourselves. Perhaps if the weather was uniformly delightful, even in this nineteenth century, the golden age might return again. We all know how perceptibly our physical, mental and spiritual level is raised by a few days of really charming weather; but until the weather determines to be always golden, we can hardly expect it of the age. Yet even now, even in England, and even in London, we have every year a few days which must surely be waifs and strays from the golden age, days which have fluttered down from under the hands of the recording angel, as he tied up his reports, and, after floating about for years in dim, interplanetary space, sometimes drop down upon us. They may last a week, they have been known to last a fortnight; again, they may curtail themselves into a few hours, but they are never wholly absent. At the time at which this story opens, London was having its annual golden days; days to be associated with cool, early rides in the crumbly Row, with sitting on small, green chairs beneath the trees at the corner of the Park; with a general disinclination to exert oneself, or to stop smoking cigarettes; with a temper distinctly above its normal level, and a corresponding absence of moods. The crudeness of spring had disappeared, but not its freshness; the warmth of the summer had come, but not its sultriness; the winter was definitely over and past, and even in Hyde Park the voice of the singing bird was heard, and an old gentleman, who shall be nameless, had committed his annual perjury by asserting in the Morning Post that he had heard a nightingale in the elm-trees by the Ladies' Mile, which was manifestly impossible.
