Book excerpt: Flight data from a 60 deg. delta wing aircraft have been analysed using a modified Newton-Raphson parameter estimation procedure. The model equations used for the analysis were extended to account for incidence vane errors and non-linearities in the pitching moment curves. Longitudinal derivatives extracted from the data have been compared with wind tunnel measurements and some theoretical estimates and areas of agreement and disagreement identified. The results demonstrate the usefulness of the parameter identification method not only for the validation of aircraft mathematical models and for checking flight results against wind tunnel data but also for obtaining aerodynamic data not easily available through other means. Book excerpt: Flight data from a 60 degree delta wing aircraft have been analysed using a modified Newton-Raphson parameter estimation procedure. The model equations used for the analysis were extended to account for sideslip vane errors and for lateral accelerometer position error. Lateral derivatives extracted from the data have been compared with wind tunnel measurements and theoretical estimates and areas of agreement and disagreement identified. The method has also been applied to the analysis of fin loads measured in flight and some tentative conclusions reached. The results confirm the effectiveness of the parameter identification procedure in flight test analysis and its ready applicability to a variety of related problems. (Author).

Book Synopsis Aerodynamic Parameters of the Navion Airplane Extracted from Flight Data by : William Tull Suit
Download or read book Aerodynamic Parameters of the Navion Airplane Extracted from Flight Data written by William Tull Suit and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An iterative method, which is characterized as a maximum-likelihood minimum-variance technique, was used to extract the aerodynamic parameters of a Navion airplane from flight data. The purposes were to compare the results with parameters obtained from wind-tunnel tests and with results obtained by analog matching the same data, and to develop techniques for application of the parameter extraction program. Results from the study showed that the parameter-extraction program can produce aerodynamic parameters which will permit close estimation of the aircraft time histories used in the extraction process. The program determined an estimate of the standard deviations of the states and parameters. These estimates were used to indicate how well the calculated states fit the flight data and the confidence in the values of the estimated parameters. The study also showed that the values of the parameters were affected by the data and mathematical model used during the extraction process. Because of the lack of confidence in the parameters extracted by use of some of the sets of data, several parameters were estimated by other methods. By using a combination of methods, a set of parameters which gave a fit to the data was obtained.

Book Synopsis Aircraft Aerodynamic Parameter Estimation from Flight Data Using Neural Partial Differentiation by : Majeed Mohamed
Download or read book Aircraft Aerodynamic Parameter Estimation from Flight Data Using Neural Partial Differentiation written by Majeed Mohamed and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents neural partial differentiation as an estimation algorithm for extracting aerodynamic derivatives from flight data. It discusses neural modeling of the aircraft system. The neural partial differentiation approach discussed in the book helps estimate parameters with their statistical information from the noisy data. Moreover, this method avoids the need for prior information about the aircraft model parameters. The objective of the book is to extend the use of the neural partial differentiation method to the multi-input multi-output aircraft system for the online estimation of aircraft parameters from an established neural model. This approach will be relevant for the design of an adaptive flight control system. The book also discusses the estimation of aerodynamic derivatives of rigid and flexible aircraft which are treated separately. The longitudinal and lateral-directional derivatives of aircraft are estimated from flight data. Besides the aerodynamic derivatives, mode shape parameters of flexible aircraft are also identified in the book as part of identification for the state space aircraft model. Since the detailed description of the approach is illustrated through the block diagram and their results are presented in tabular form with figures of parameters converge to their estimates, the contents of this book are intended for readers who want to pursue a postgraduate and doctoral degree in science and engineering. This book is useful for practicing scientists, engineers, and teachers in the field of aerospace engineering.

This book was released on 1972 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A parameter-estimation algorithm was used to extract the longitudinal aerodynamic derivatives from flight data for the XC-142A airplane in a cruise condition. The flight data were the response to a tail-plane doublet input. Results of this study showed that a set of derivatives were determined which yielded a calculated aircraft response in close agreement with the measured response. This calculated response was in much closer agreement with the flight data than the response obtained by using derivatives which were calculated from empirical methods. There were large differences between some of the important derivatives extracted from flight data and those calculated from empirical methods. The reasons for these differences were not identified.
