It is defined as a science branch that studies regularities of training and education of individuals who are disadvantaged comparing to the major population at mental, sensory, somatic area; communication skills; psycho-social area; learning disorders and accelerated talent. Nowadays especially terminological disunity is in the middle of attention at training-educational area; but also at legislative area, pedagogues, parents, educational advisors and also special pedagogues themselves. Special practice forces specialists and also special pedagogues to gain as much knowledge about terminology as possible not only here but also abroad with purpose of its unity. Objective attitude to a personality with disability or disorder can be only created as a result of complex attitude. Within this attitude the terminology makes a serious part. To understand the difficult issue regarding the terminology at special pedagogy a scientific monograph which had been created by many specialists not only from Slovakia but also from abroad can definitely help. We assume that not only students of special pedagogy but also teachers from practice, wide pedagogical and non-pedagogical public and all of those who concern about this issue (including special employees of various resorts) will find answers on many difficult questions about terminology at special monograph. We also believe that it will enrich the theory of special pedagogy as well in an important way. Excerpt from the Introduction

Book Synopsis Managing Children with Developmental Language Disorder by : James Law
Download or read book Managing Children with Developmental Language Disorder written by James Law and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-09 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although most children learn language relatively quickly, as many as 10 per cent of them are slow to start speaking and are said to have developmental language disorder (DLD). Children with DLD are managed by a variety of different professionals in different countries, are offered different services for different periods of time and are given a variety of different therapeutic treatments. To date, there has been no attempt to evaluate these different practices. Managing Children with Developmental Language Disorder: Theory and Practice Across Europe and Beyond does just this, reporting on the findings of a survey carried out as part of the work of COST Action IS1406, a European research network. Law and colleagues analyse the results of a pan-European survey, looking at how different services are delivered in different counties, at the cultural factors underpinning such services and the theoretical frameworks used to inform practice in different countries. The book also provides a snapshot of international practices in a set of 35 country-specific "vignettes", providing a benchmark for future developments but also calling attention to the work of key practitioners and thinkers in each of the countries investigated. This book will be essential reading for practitioners working with children with language impairments, those commissioning services and policy in the field and students of speech and language therapy.

This book was released on 2023-05-02 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assessing and Diagnosing Speech Therapy Needs in School is a unique text that offers practical guidance in pedagogical diagnosis of speech and communication difficulties within educational settings It outlines theoretical assumptions of the diagnosis process and presents hands-on solutions for pedagogical and speech therapy. Underpinned by theoretical knowledge and written by experienced practitioners, the book equips its readers with tools to understand the diagnostic process and make accurate diagnoses based on each child’s individual circumstances. It starts by clearly distinguishing between pedagogy and speech therapy and outlines issues and theoretical considerations in diagnosing these disorders. To contextualize the theorical observations, it goes on to present case studies, and touches upon crucial topics including readiness to start education, tendency toward aggressive behavior, aphasia and hearing loss. The authors also elaborate on a range of selected diagnostic tools to assess specific difficulties in speech and language therapy. Finally, a list of resources, including games and exercises that can target reading, writing and articulation skills to help children develop, are also featured in the book. Highlighting the importance of practical and theoretical knowledge for those who work with children, this will be a valuable aid for teachers, special educators and speech and language therapists working within school settings. The book will also be of interest to students, teachers and trainee practitioners in the fields of speech therapy and special educational needs.
