Book excerpt: In the complexity of the current economic context, exports represent the only path that allows Italian SMEs to grow and thrive in the medium to long term. However, the international markets in which they operate are increasingly complex and competitive, and unlike local markets, they are complicated by the presence of barriers and peculiarities related to sales and after-sales management. In this scenario, the Export Manager is a crucial figure in enabling companies to initiate, develop, and man-age the export of goods and services, and more generally, to activate the internationalization process. In this perspective, the book represents a true guidebook for a profession on the rise. From company assessment to market analysis, from defining the entry strategy into target countries to designing the business model, from risk assessment to business plan drafting and implementation to KPI monitoring: for each activity, the authors pragmatically illustrate both the necessary technical skills and the softer managerial capabilities, supported by cases and examples, with-out neglecting the implications of the digitization process that now affects every phase of this multifaceted profession.

Firms should develop strategic objectives that, upon achievement, result in a competitive advantage in the market place. The forces of globalization on one hand and rapidly growing marketing opportunities overseas, especially in emerging economies on the other, have led to the expansion of operations on a global scale. The book aims to cover the main topics characterizing operations management including both strategic issues and practical applications. A global environmental business including both manufacturing and services is analyzed. The book contains original research and application chapters from different perspectives. It is enriched through the analyses of case studies.

Book excerpt: You know those cookbooks that say they're one-pot, but somehow you are left with a pile of dishes? Well, this is the real thing: 65 fabulous recipes that truly need just one pot and only one pot (or skillet, saut pan, or Dutch oven), start to finish. Included are dishes for family suppers like Moroccan Chicken with Couscous, or larger gathering with companyBraised Chipotle-Orange Pork with Yams. Cookbook author, chef, and one-pot enthusiast Jesse Ziff Cool braised, stir-fried, steamed, stewed, and simmered to perfection such delectable dishes as Short Ribs with Steamed Vegetables (the vegetables are ingeniously steamed on top of the ribs during the last few minutes of cooking), and Any Season Stir-Fry with Orange, Ginger, and Lemongrass. Recipes also offer suggestions for variations to either lighten up a dish or, when everyone is really hungry, make it more substantial. Plus there are plenty of tips for choosing the perfect pot, techniques on proper timing, and do-ahead strategies to make the prep as easy as the clean up.

Book excerpt: The sale of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) is growing worldwide due to technological innovations and the speed with which they become obsolete, which increases the production of a solid residue called Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), or e-Waste. WEEE is a relevant problem, as it contains several toxic substances capable of harming the environment and human health. This is why a proper environmental management is required. After the creation of the National Policy on Solid Waste (PNRS) in Brazil - Law No. 12.305, of August 2, 2010, manufacturers, importers, distributors, and traders have become responsible for implementing Reverse Logistics (RL) systems, which aim at the return of products after use by the consumer. Although the electronics industry is concerned about the RL of its products, RL of WEEE is not a subject widely addressed within Brazil or internationally. In fact, "e-waste" is a new subject in the world literature. This book aims to identify how WEEE management can contribute to the improvement of the EEE supply chain performance in Brazil, at an environmental sustainability point of view. Therefore, we identify: The global and Brazilian background, overview, and perspectives to improving solid waste and WEEE management at an environmental sustainability point of view; Brazilian legislation and practices; international legislation and good practices in WEEE management, which suggest improvements to the WEEE management in Brazil; and good practices in using product identification technologies, such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) in e-waste reverse logistics systems, such as the renowned Hewlett-Packard (HP) Smartwaste Project.
