Book Synopsis Nonlocal Diffusion Problems by : Fuensanta Andreu-Vaillo
Download or read book Nonlocal Diffusion Problems written by Fuensanta Andreu-Vaillo and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2010 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlocal diffusion problems arise in a wide variety of applications, including biology, image processing, particle systems, coagulation models, and mathematical finance. These types of problems are also of great interest for their purely mathematical content. This book presents recent results on nonlocal evolution equations with different boundary conditions, starting with the linear theory and moving to nonlinear cases, including two nonlocal models for the evolution of sandpiles. Both existence and uniqueness of solutions are considered, as well as their asymptotic behaviour. Moreover, the authors present results concerning limits of solutions of the nonlocal equations as a rescaling parameter tends to zero. With these limit procedures the most frequently used diffusion models are recovered: the heat equation, the $p$-Laplacian evolution equation, the porous media equation, the total variation flow, a convection-diffusion equation and the local models for the evolution of sandpiles due to Aronsson-Evans-Wu and Prigozhin. Readers are assumed to be familiar with the basic concepts and techniques of functional analysis and partial differential equations. The text is otherwise self-contained, with the exposition emphasizing an intuitive understanding and results given with full proofs. It is suitable for graduate students or researchers. The authors cover a subject that has received a great deal of attention in recent years. The book is intended as a reference tool for a general audience in analysis and PDEs, including mathematicians, engineers, physicists, biologists, and others interested in nonlocal diffusion problems.
Book Synopsis Ergodic Behavior of Markov Processes by : Alexei Kulik
Download or read book Ergodic Behavior of Markov Processes written by Alexei Kulik and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2017-11-20 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general topic of this book is the ergodic behavior of Markov processes. A detailed introduction to methods for proving ergodicity and upper bounds for ergodic rates is presented in the first part of the book, with the focus put on weak ergodic rates, typical for Markov systems with complicated structure. The second part is devoted to the application of these methods to limit theorems for functionals of Markov processes. The book is aimed at a wide audience with a background in probability and measure theory. Some knowledge of stochastic processes and stochastic differential equations helps in a deeper understanding of specific examples. Book Synopsis Stochastic Processes and Applications by : Grigorios A. Pavliotis
Download or read book Stochastic Processes and Applications written by Grigorios A. Pavliotis and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents various results and techniques from the theory of stochastic processes that are useful in the study of stochastic problems in the natural sciences. The main focus is analytical methods, although numerical methods and statistical inference methodologies for studying diffusion processes are also presented. The goal is the development of techniques that are applicable to a wide variety of stochastic models that appear in physics, chemistry and other natural sciences. Applications such as stochastic resonance, Brownian motion in periodic potentials and Brownian motors are studied and the connection between diffusion processes and time-dependent statistical mechanics is elucidated. The book contains a large number of illustrations, examples, and exercises. It will be useful for graduate-level courses on stochastic processes for students in applied mathematics, physics and engineering. Many of the topics covered in this book (reversible diffusions, convergence to equilibrium for diffusion processes, inference methods for stochastic differential equations, derivation of the generalized Langevin equation, exit time problems) cannot be easily found in textbook form and will be useful to both researchers and students interested in the applications of stochastic processes.
Book Synopsis Diffusions, Markov Processes, and Martingales by : David Williams
Download or read book Diffusions, Markov Processes, and Martingales written by David Williams and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1979 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main themes of this book are stochastic integrals, stochastic differential equations, excursion theory and 'the general theory of processes'. Much effort has gone into the attempt to make these subjects accessible by providing many concrete examples illustrating techniques of calculation, and by treating all topics (including stochastic differential geometry) from the ground up, starting from the simplest case. In particular, the theory is developed first for the 'continuous' case, by far the most important in practice, while the general theory (and its applications) forms the last chapter. Many of the examples and many of the proofs are new and some important methods of calculation appear for the first time in a book.
Book Synopsis Asymptotic Analysis of Unstable Solutions of Stochastic Differential Equations by : Grigorij Kulinich
Download or read book Asymptotic Analysis of Unstable Solutions of Stochastic Differential Equations written by Grigorij Kulinich and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-29 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to unstable solutions of stochastic differential equations (SDEs). Despite the huge interest in the theory of SDEs, this book is the first to present a systematic study of the instability and asymptotic behavior of the corresponding unstable stochastic systems. The limit theorems contained in the book are not merely of purely mathematical value; rather, they also have practical value. Instability or violations of stability are noted in many phenomena, and the authors attempt to apply mathematical and stochastic methods to deal with them. The main goals include exploration of Brownian motion in environments with anomalies and study of the motion of the Brownian particle in layered media. A fairly wide class of continuous Markov processes is obtained in the limit. It includes Markov processes with discontinuous transition densities, processes that are not solutions of any Itô's SDEs, and the Bessel diffusion process. The book is self-contained, with presentation of definitions and auxiliary results in an Appendix. It will be of value for specialists in stochastic analysis and SDEs, as well as for researchers in other fields who deal with unstable systems and practitioners who apply stochastic models to describe phenomena of instability.
