Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nonlinear large-deflection equations of von Kármán for plates are converted into a set of linear equations by expanding the displacements into a power series in terms of an arbitrary parameter. The post-buckling behavior of simply supported rectangular plates subjected to longitudinal compression and subject to a uniform temperature rise is investigated in detail by solving the first few of the equations. Experimental data are presented for the compression problem. Comparisons are made for total shortening and local strains and deflections which indicate good agreement between experimental and theoretical results.

Download or read book Handbook of Thin Plate Buckling and Postbuckling written by Frederick Bloom and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-12-21 with total page 960 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stop searching through the endless amount of literature to find the most recent information on plate buckling. The authors of Handbook of Thin Plate Buckling and Post Buckling have already done the work for you. Detailed and clearly written, the book contains a comprehensive, up-to-date treatment of the buckling and postbuckling behavior of perfect and imperfect thin plates. The authors study, in detail and with specific solved examples, the essential factors that influence critical buckling loads, initial mode shapes, and postbuckling behavior for thin plates. Through their analysis of rectangular, circular, and annular plates, they present valuable information, some of which has never before been published in book form. Such topics include hygrothermal buckling, viscoelastic and plastic buckling, and buckling of various thickness plates. With this important collection, the Handbook of Thin Plate Buckling and Post Buckling provides you with a one-stop source of current research findings.

Download or read book Nonlinear Buckled States of Rectangular Plates written by George H. Knightly and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A constructive method is developed to establish the existence of buckled states of a thin, flat elastic plate that is rectangular in shape, simply supported along its edges, and subjected to a constant compressive thrust applied normal to its two short edges. Under the assumption that the stress function and the deformation of the plate are described by the nonlinear von Karman equation, the approach used yields information regarding not only the number of buckled states near an eigenvalue of the linearized problem, but also the continuous dependence of such states on the load parameter and the possible selection of that buckled state preferred by the plate. Book Synopsis Maximum Strength Analysis of Postbuckled Rectangular Plates by : Stanford University. Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics
Download or read book Maximum Strength Analysis of Postbuckled Rectangular Plates written by Stanford University. Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis of long simply-supported rectangular plates with straight unloaded edges uniformly shortened beyond the elastic instability points into the plastic range was undertaken. The inclusion of wavelength effects is shown to be a significant factor in establishing maximum strength criteria for postbuckled plates. The present results are shown to be in excellent agreement with experiment and serve to explain the reason for the absence of clearly-defined maximum load criteria for postbuckled square plates. In addition, the analysis results offer a plausible explanation for the increased maximum strength performance obtained with several tests on beryllium plates considered to be simply-supported, when compared with an essentially material-independent maximum strength criterion established for plates constructed of materials which possess relatively high biaxial ductility. Download or read book Plated Structures written by R. Narayanan and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1983-12-01 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in the 1983. This is third book of a planned set of volumes on the stability and strength of structures. The collapse a few years ago of four large box girders during erection precipitated a considerable research effort in many countries on the various design aspects of plated structures (such as box girders and plate girders). This book is addressed to structural designers and post-graduate students, a fundamental knowledge of structural mechanics is taken for granted; nevertheless, sufficient introductory material is included in each chapter to make the subject matter easily readable. This volume contains eight chapters, all of which are written by persons who have made notable contributions to the relevant subject area. The first four chapters are devoted to various aspects of the design of a plate girder and concentrate largely on the associated stability problems in shear. The four remaining chapters are largely concerned with stability problems in compression, such as those met in box girder flanges and ship hulls. Chapter 8 also highlights some of the complexities of interaction between different stresses. Thus the book covers a wide range of topics of relevance to both the designer and the student.
Book Synopsis Thin-Walled Structures - Advances and Developments by : J. Zaras
Download or read book Thin-Walled Structures - Advances and Developments written by J. Zaras and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-06-18 with total page 779 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the papers presented at the Third International Conference on Thin-Walled Structures, Cracow, Poland on June 5-7, 2001. There has been a substantial growth in knowledge in the field of Thin-Walled Structures over the past few decades. Lightweight structures are in widespread use in the Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical, Automobile, Chemical and Offshore Engineering fields. The development of new processes, new methods of connections, new materials has gone hand-in-hand with the evolution of advanced analytical methods suitable for dealing with the increasing complexity of the design work involved in ensuring safety and confidence in the finished products. Of particular importance with regard to the analytical process is the growth in use of the finite element method. This method, about 40 years ago, was confined to rather specialist use, mainly in the aeronautical field, because of its requirements for substantial calculation capacity. The development over recent years of extremely powerful microcomputers has ensured that the application of the finite element method is now possible for problems in all fields of engineering, and a variety of finite element packages have been developed to enhance the ease of use and the availability of the method in the engineering design process.
