Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In contemporary culture, accountability is usually understood in terms of holding people who have done something wrong accountable for their actions. As such, it is virtually synonymous with punishing someone. Living Accountably argues that accountability should also be understood as a significant, forward-looking virtue, an excellence possessed by those who willingly embrace being accountable to those who have proper standing, when that standing is exercised appropriately. Those who have this virtue are people who strive to live accountably. The book gives a fine-grained description of the virtue and how it is exercised, including an account of the motivational profile of the one who has the virtue. It examines the relation of accountability to other virtues, such as honesty and humility, as well as opposing vices, such as self-deception, arrogance, and servility. Though the virtue of accountability is compatible with individual autonomy, recognizing the importance of the virtue does justice to the social character of human persons. C. Stephen Evans also explores the history of this virtue in other cultures and historical eras, providing evidence that the virtue is widely recognized, even if it is somewhat eclipsed in modern western societies. Accountability is also a virtue that connects ethical life with religious life for many people, since it is common for people to have a sense that they are accountable in a global way for how they live their lives. Living Accountably explores the question as to whether global accountability can be understood in a purely secular way, as accountability to other humans, or whether it must be understood as accountability to God, or some other transcendent reality.

Pastoral leadership is the ministry of caring for the household of God. Both laity and clergy are called to this ministry. Those who read and study this book will be invited to discover their own ministry as pastoral leaders. All who follow Jesus Christ and seek to obey his teachings to "love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind," and "love your neighbor as yourself"* have the potential to be pastoral leaders for their congregation. They are pastoral leaders because others see and experience the grace of Jesus Christ through their lives. They are spiritual, servant leaders who follow the example of Jesus. These are ordinary people. They are laity and clergy. They are people like you. A foundational piece for anyone involved in Accountable Discipleship ministries, this resource explores a systematic approach for undertaking and accepting the challenge of personal discipleship for life. It is designed for leaders of Accountable Discipleship ministries, members of Covenant Discipleship groups, class leaders, and clergy. *Matthew 22:37, 39 (NLT) Click here for the Leader's Guide.

They range from the ordinary and mundane to life-altering events. Many decisions we are faced with have little effect on our lives. They deal with the simple problems and require simple choices. However, there are those decisions which impact our lives and the lives of those around us in very significant and consequential ways. In Making Accountable Decisions, Sam Silverstein presents ways to approach our life’s decisions and how we interact with and affect others. He does this by focusing on the most substantial decisions in our lives, considering how they impact us and what decisions we can make to add value and meaning. Sam is the founder of The Accountability Movement™ and works with companies, government agencies and people around the world helping them build accountable cultures and live accountable lives. Building an accountable world is his life’s mission. Some people choose to let life happen. Some people make it happen. What’s your decision?

Book excerpt: What if you could transform your relationship with yourself, your family and friends, your colleagues and clients, and your larger community through the power of commitment? What if ten simple choices enabled you to enhance your leadership skills, improve your organizational culture, and make a local, national, or even global impact? In I Am Accountable, renowned speaker and consultant Sam Silverstein explains how accountability is the secret to filling your life with more meaning, more success, and more joy—and it all starts with your mindset. In order to create a truly meaningful life, we must first accept that the problem is never other people. “The real problem,” Sam Silverstein maintains, “is what we believe about other people.” Silverstein’s new book shows why everything we have been taught about accountability is wrong. Contrary to popular belief, accountability is not a way of doing. Accountability is a way of thinking. It is how we think about ourselves and others. And it is the highest form of leadership. The secret to creating accountable relationships, and elevating the personal benchmark that Silverstein calls The Accountability Index™, lies in making ten critical choices that support an accountable mindset. I Am Accountable offers a comprehensive plan to help you establish and leverage that mindset, deepen commitments, create lasting meaning in your life and relationships, transform the culture within your organization, and foster lasting positive change in the world.

Book excerpt: E=mc2 You may think you know what this familiar formula means, but until you read Sam Silverstein’s breakthrough book, you will not know its true power or its potential. This is the Accountability Formula™, and it forms the heart of the Theory of Accountability™. Silverstein’s Theory of Accountability has nothing to do with physics, the speed of light, or the relationship between space and time. It has everything to do with personal and organizational growth, and with establishing the kind of leadership in your own life that makes excuses a thing of the past…and inspires true commitment from others. The Theory of Accountability states: Our lived EXPERIENCE is the direct result of our MINDSET and our COMMITMENT SQUARED. Silverstein’s new book examines each of these critical elements in depth, and shows you how to leverage the power of accountability to create a sustainable high-performance life and organization. E stands for Experience. Our experience is the results: the outcomes we achieve in our life, in our business, and everywhere else. It is what we produce. Our experience impacts the lives of everyone we come in contact with. The problem is, all too often, our experience is erratic, random, unplanned, and dysfunctional--with results to match. M stands for Mindset. The accountable mindset is based on a conscious decision to embrace possibility rather than fear. When decisions are driven by fear, our experience and the experience of everyone we come in contact with suffers. On the other hand, when decisions are driven by a set of beliefs that are based on valuing people, and on a foundation of abundance rather than scarcity, our experience improves. C2 stands for Commitment Squared. How do we ensure that our mindset is driven by possibility and abundance, rather than by fear and scarcity? By focusing on our ability to make, keep, and expand specific commitments. There is truly awesome power in commitment. The quality of the results you achieve is always based on two things: how committed you are to people, and how committed you are to your mindset and your core beliefs. These are the two commitments of the accountable person. When both kinds of commitments are in full play, when you are all in, you are living to your full potential. Such commitments are like compound interest, because they produce increasingly greater results over time. Sam’s latest book offers leaders a proven system for taking control of your life and transforming yourself and your organization…by harnessing the awesome power of accountability.

Book excerpt: A guide to making the leap from imposed accountability to personal commitment for both individuals and organizations. Accountability — we all want the people around us to be responsible, reveal genuine commitment, keep their word, and stay away from blaming others. But organizational systems that aim to institutionalize accountability don’t quite go all the way. People are people. They have their own wants and needs, their own psychological tangles, and they often don’t particularly want to be held accountable, let alone confront others who have let them down. Throw Your Stuff Off the Plane is here to help. It reveals the missing ingredient organizations usually overlook: personal responsibility. It’s an approach to self-improvement for each reader, centring on untangling the conflicting thoughts that block personal responsibility. And it’s a guide for every leader who wants to go all the way.

When we discover our own unique purpose, and then make and keep personal commitments that support that purpose, that is accountability. If everyone in the Accountability Circle makes and keeps those commitments, then accountability becomes a way of life.” –Sam Silverstein THE ACCOUNTABILITY CIRCLE gives you a trusted group of Accountability Partners for your life, your career, and your business. They support you in identifying and acting on your Purpose, your Mission, and your Values…and you support them in turn. THE ACCOUNTABILITY CIRCLE is where you go to become the best person you can be. It is much more than a mastermind group. It goes far deeper than networking and sharing best business practices. It is about becoming a truly accountable person and a leader in your own life. THE ACCOUNTABILITY CIRCLE goes far beyond your current “circle of friends” … and creates a powerful group of allies who are focused on your best interests, based on your unique purpose and mission. THE ACCOUNTABILITY CIRCLE is the ultimate personal development strategy and the critical leadership advantage. We all want to reach our potential, become the best version of ourselves, and get the most we possibly can out of life. We all want to maximize our impact and leave a legacy that inspires other people to be their best. For most of us, the problem is not that we are not trying to be our best. The real problem is that we are unable to see and understand fully what our very best can be. We may think that we have to create our own solutions and cannot ask for help. However, this vision of a self-reliant accountability is wrong. In fact, everything we have been taught about accountability is wrong. Accountability is not about having to prove ourselves, create some original idea, or live an independent life, and it is certainly not about “holding others accountable.” Quite the contrary—accountability is all about commitments and interdependence. We need other people to help us to be our very best, and we need to help other people to be their very best. It is in helping others fulfill their potential that we identify and achieve our own true potential! Action always comes with belief. When you begin taking action with full accountability in your Accountability Circle, you will begin to see people differently, show up differently, commit differently, and bring people into your life differently. By building accountable relationships, you will open yourself up to unrealized opportunities for growth and outreach. Sam Silverstein’s The Accountability Circle shows you how to unlock the power of your own purpose, and learn how your best self can be discovered through the eyes of people who truly care about you. This discovery results, not just in more meaningful relationships within the Circle, but in the capacity to cultivate stronger relationships outside the Circle. Building on the commitments you make and inspire, you can achieve major life goals and make deeper contributions in your home life, your workplace, and the larger world.

Believers are responsible for the accountability of other believers and are responsible to willingly submit to accountability. Yet most churches do not have planned accountability programs. The Christian Life Accountability Program seeks to provide guidance to begin an accountability program. The first section in this book identifies the foundation for creating an accountability program. The second section seeks to provide a solid foundation about the reason for living the Christian life. The next three sections provide brief training courses that can be used as an introductory training for accountability in the areas of finances, health, and relationships. Believers must realize that God has a plan for their life. Satan seeks to destroy that plan by damaging the believer in basic areas of life, such as finances, health, and relationships. The way that Satan damages believers is through sins such as greed, laziness, gluttony, selfishness, and pride. The three introductory accountability training courses in this book are intended to provide a foundational discipline for believers to stand up to sins in their life that are harming them in the areas of finances, health, and relationships.
