This charming children's book brings us out in the woods beside seven-year-old Johnny and five-year-old Valerie as they play with their father. The kids hear a voice in the woods saying: "One, two, three, come and find me. I'm hiding behind you, out in the trees." Both children shout, "Daddy!" and run into the woods. Daddy shouts out another clue. "Four, five, six, I'm not in those sticks. I'll give you a clue, it goes like this; take three steps forward and one step back and look for something green and black." The children find a green and black turtle with a note taped to its back, saying, "You're getting warmer!" Daddy gives them more clues that take them further into the woods. What will Daddy say next? The final clue leads Johnny and Valerie back into the house, where Daddy is sitting in the kitchen with his arms stretched wide for a hug. He hands the kids their final note. Can you guess what it reads??Twenty-one, twenty-two, twenty-three, I?m happy as can be, to have you as my children, I?m glad you found me.?

Book excerpt: Debbie Bullins I live in a small town in Walnut Cove North Carolina, A great place to live and an even better place for children to grow up and go to school. I have loved to write since I was only a child. We lived in a five room house when I was just a little girl, I remember writing notes and putting them into a small hole in the wall, I often wonder if the people who live there now, ever found the notes. I meet my husband when I was fourteen; I was standing on the church steps when I saw him I just knew someday we would be married. I could not date until the age of sixteen that was the rule. And home by 10pm not a minute later. We married in 1977 and have been together ever since. I keep a journal at all times you never know what will spark intrest and ideas. The Secret Path was a mixture of a dream and imagination. Elayna had rules to fallow from her dad for her safety. But in her dreams she climbed a big tree, played hide and seek, also had fun with bright eyed happy friends. Oh, imagination is a wonderful thing. I write and paint with every free moment I have. It is what I love to do. We have one son Chad Bullins, he is a great dad. We were blessed in 2007 with our grandbaby she is the light of our life, she loves it when we read to her at bedtime. So when I wrote this book I read it to her, she did not know her Gomie had written it. She loved it so much she said, Gomie! With excitement in her eyes, you got to find the book for me; I love it and want to take it with me wherever I go. Of course I said I will try, this book is dedicated to our Elayna Marie Bullins she is four. So you never know where a simple path may lead, and imagination will carry us to so many wonderful places.

Book excerpt: Tailgated. Pressured from behind. Passed on the right. Cut off by an aggressive driver. Given the finger for no apparent reason. Road rage is a real phenomenon of our ever-increasing pace of life. Richard Gerber ratchets road rage up a notch in this novel of terror on the highways surrounding Oklahoma City. Detective Nick Witkowski is called to a horrific multivehicle accident in which a mother and her daughter are incinerated in the wreckage. Overcome by grief, the family's father, Kevin Packard, struggles to deal with an atrocity that plunges him into his mind's darkest recesses. When the driver responsible for the wreck, an alcoholic, becomes an accident victim himself, no one is particularly sympathetic. The case turns, however, when the medical examiner discovers this was no routine accident. Instead, the drunk was drugged, his neck broken by what appears to be a professional killer. Other rude and aggressive drivers begin to meet the same fate, and Witkowski's instincts kick into high gear. Nick and his team move quickly to match wits with the mentally deranged killer who cruises the streets extracting revenge. The killer's own road rage begins to unravel when Road Butcher moves to its stunning conclusion.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of presidential politics reached a new and significant milestone with the election of Barack Obama in 2008. It sparked great hope in America for greater racial equity and social justice. A Paradise to Regain: Post-Obama Insights from Women Educators of the Black Diaspora seeks to avert the likelihood of erasure of President Obama’s legacy of hope and possibility that every child, regardless of race, faith, and gender affiliation, can dream big and live to see his/her dream turn into reality. As women educators of color, we all agree that the socio-political climate prevailing in the United States of America, since the aftermath of the 2016 election, requires unprecedented agency. The book provides space for Black women educators–African Americans, Naturalized Black Americans, and Foreign-born Blacks from Africa, the Caribbean Islands and South America (e.g., Guyana)–to have a candid conversation with their young children—sons and daughters, nephews and nieces—about the roadblocks they are likely to face as minority youth of color in their pursuit of greatness and the reminder that they have a role model in President Obama to look up to in moments of extreme frustration and exasperation. Voices of engaged educators of color are indispensable to make sure that children understand that that despite a 360-degree turn from eight consecutive years of a reassuring message that “change had come,” that paradise had been gained, into the threatening message of “making America white again,” we count on them to regain the paradise. Perfect for courses such as: Racism and Education Inequality in the Lives of African-American Youth, Introduction to the African Diaspora, Equity and Diversity in Schools, Place, Language, Power and Knowledge, Global and Multicultural Education in the Secondary School, Issues in Urban Education, Culture Power and Education, Social Class Education and Pedagogy, Language, Culture, and Education, The Politics of Literacy and Race in Schools, Race and Racism in Education and Society, Race, Ethnicity and Linguistic Diversity in Classrooms and Communities, and Education and Society.
