Book Synopsis Cross Border Themes in Petroleum Geology I: The North Sea by : S. Patruno
Download or read book Cross Border Themes in Petroleum Geology I: The North Sea written by S. Patruno and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2022 with total page 506 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A cross-border approach to exploration, appraisal and development is important in mature basins such as the North Sea, where the ‘low hanging fruit’ have long gone. This approach emphasizes the need to see the basin as one geological entity, in order to maximize economic recovery and prepare the area for the energy transition. This volume offers an up-to-date, ‘geology-without-borders’ view of the stratigraphy, sedimentology, tectonics and oil-and-gas exploration trends of the entire North Sea basin, along with the challenges associated with differences in data continuity and nomenclature across median lines. This volume includes overviews of cross-border play statistics, lithostratigraphic naming conventions and exploration performance through to new facies models for cross-border areas. As such, this volume will be a valuable reference for every geoscientist working in the North Sea for years to come.
Book Synopsis A revised correlation of Tertiary rocks in the British Isles and adjacent areas of NW Europe by : C. King
Download or read book A revised correlation of Tertiary rocks in the British Isles and adjacent areas of NW Europe written by C. King and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2016-01-05 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Report comprehensively describes the stratigraphy and correlation of the Tertiary (Paleogene–Neogene) rocks of NW Europe and the adjacent Atlantic Ocean and is the summation of fifty years of research on Tertiary sediments by Chris King. His book is essential reading for all geologists who deal with Tertiary rocks across NW Europe, including those in the petroleum industry and geotechnical services as well as academic stratigraphers and palaeontologists. Introductory sections on chronostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and other methods of dating and correlation are followed by a regional summary of Tertiary sedimentary basins and their framework and an introduction to Tertiary igneous rocks. The third and largest segment comprises the regional stratigraphic summaries. Regions covered are the North Sea Basin, onshore areas of southern England and the eastern English Channel area, the North Atlantic margins (including non-marine basins in the Irish Sea and elsewhere) and the Paleogene igneous rocks of Scotland.
Book Synopsis Subsurface Sand Remobilization and Injection by : A. Hurst
Download or read book Subsurface Sand Remobilization and Injection written by A. Hurst and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2021-08-02 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sand injectites form during shallow-crustal deformation. Short periods of elevated pore-fluid pressure, which developed regionally, triggered formation of hydrofracture networks into which sand was sometimes injected. Sand injection complexes preserve a record of this process and sandstone intrusions are significant reservoirs in many petroleum systems. Most known subsurface sand injection complexes are from offshore NW Europe and associated with Paleogene strata. Outcrop occurrence is global. Sand injection into unconventional host rocks, including granitoid and metamorphic basement and coal seams, raises awareness of the breadth of geological environments in which sand injection may occur. Discordance between sandstone intrusions and sedimentary hosts occurs on a scale from millimetres to kilometres and is a fundamental diagnostic of intrusions. Microscale textural characterization provides new opportunities to establish possible additional criteria for differentiating intrusions from depositional sandstone. The significance of sand injection complexes in shallow crustal evolution is exemplified by the wide range of lithological hosts and diverse tectonostratigraphic settings documented in this volume. Potential for original research still remains.

Book Synopsis Petroleum Geology of the North Sea by : K. W. Glennie
Download or read book Petroleum Geology of the North Sea written by K. W. Glennie and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-06-29 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 3rd edition of this publication, emphasis within the petroleum industry has shifted from exploration to appraisal and development of existing hydrocarbon resources. This change is reflected in this new 4th edition, which has been significantly expanded to accomodate additional material. The centrepiece of the book, however, remains a series of descriptions, in stratigraphic order, of the depositional history and hydrocarbon related rock units of the North Sea.

Book Synopsis Correlation of the Early Paleogene in Northwest Europe by : R. M. Corfield
Download or read book Correlation of the Early Paleogene in Northwest Europe written by R. M. Corfield and published by Geological Society Publishing House. This book was released on 1996 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The early Paleogene of northwest Europe has been the subject of intense investigation over the last 25 years, with important stimuli being provided by the search for oil and gas in the offshore basins and by lUGS-sponsored investigations of the onshore historical stage and stratotype sections. The book includes three categories of papers on the Paleocene and Eocene of NW Europe: detailed aspects of local stratigraphy in the North Sea, Denmark, Belgium, SE England and offshore NW Scotland; regional syntheses of the biostratigraphy and sequence stratigraphy in NW Europe; and papers placing the successions of NW Europe in a global context, primarily through correlation with oceanic sections of the eastern Atlantic. Topics covered include: biostratigraphy (foraminifera, calcareous nannofossils, dinoflagellate cysts, diatoms, mammals), isotope stratigraphy, tephrostratigraphy, igneous history, tectonic evolution, and sequence stratigraphy.

Book Synopsis Mass-transport Deposits in Deepwater Settings by : R. Craig Shipp
Download or read book Mass-transport Deposits in Deepwater Settings written by R. Craig Shipp and published by SEPM Soc for Sed Geology. This book was released on 2011 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Historically, submarine-mass failures or mass-transport deposits have been a focus of increasingly intense investigation by academic institutions particularly during the last decade, though they received much less attention by geoscientists in the energy industry. With recent interest in expanding petroleum exploration and production into deeper water-depths globally and more widespread availability of high-quality data sets, mass-transport deposits are now recognized as a major component of most deep-water settings. This recognition has lead to the realization that many aspects of these deposits are still unknown or poorly understood. This volume contains twenty-three papers that address a number of topics critical to further understanding mass-transport deposits. These topics include general overviews of these deposits, depositional settings on the seafloor and in the near-subsurface interval, geohazard concerns, descriptive outcrops, integrated outcrop and seismic data/seismic forward modeling, petroleum reservoirs, and case studies on several associated topics. This volume will appeal to a broad cross section of geoscientists and geotechnical engineers, who are interested in this rapidly expanding field. The selection of papers in this volume reflects a growing trend towards a more diverse blend of disciplines and topics, covered in the study of mass-transport deposits.
