Book Synopsis Listening to the Neighbor by : Byungohk Lee
Download or read book Listening to the Neighbor written by Byungohk Lee and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2015-05-12 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Trinity can be understood as a social community with members speaking and listening to one another in love, or, as Luther understood the Trinity, as conversation, then God's mission essentially involves in mission-in-dialogue. Byungohk Lee contends the church has to embrace the dialogical dimension in missional terms because the triune God is the subject of mission. The missional church conversation has taken it for granted that local churches should speak and listen to their neighbors. In contrast, for many churches in Asia, including Korea, mission has generally tended to be practiced in a monological, rather than dialogical, manner. The neighbor has not been regarded as a conversational partner of the church, but only as the object for its mission. In Listening to the Neighbor Lee shows that some local churches have participated in God's mission by listening to their neighbors. He argues that listening is not a technique, but a multifaceted learning process in missional terms. The church must nurture its hearts, eyes, and ears in order to listen to the sigh of its neighbors.
Download or read book Sing a New Song written by Irene Nowell and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happens to the Responsorial Psalm in the Sunday liturgy? How can it help us pray the Sunday readings? How can it help in planning the liturgy? The Responsorial Psalm is the most neglected part of the Liturgy of the Word, yet it can be the key to all the rest. Its intent is to help bring the message of the other readings into our lives. This book addresses the riches of the Responsorial Psalm for every Sunday of the three-year cycle. It explains the psalm genre, offers exposition on the meaning and beauty of the psalm itself, and comments on the relationship of the Responsorial Psalm to the other readings. It is the book for anyone who wants to understand and appreciate the Sunday readings -- preachers, catechists, liturgists and all the people in the pews.
Book Synopsis A Listening Community by : Aquinata Böckmann
Download or read book A Listening Community written by Aquinata Böckmann and published by Liturgical Press. This book was released on 2015 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new book by Sister Aquinata Böckmann discusses the Prologue and chapters 1, 2, and 3 of the Rule of St. Benedict. In a lectio regulae she plumbs the depths of Benedict's vision. Listen, the first word of the Prologue, is a keyword that describes the main stance of the individual monastic, the superior, and the entire community. Listening to the Scriptures and in them to Christ guides individuals and the community on how to "run on the way of God's commandments" toward the goal of communal life in and with Christ. The first three chapters of the Rule concretize the principles of this communal spirituality of listening: the importance of a rule and a pastor for maintaining the community's attentiveness to life; the superior's responsibility to listen to individuals within the community; and the mutual listening between leader and community members, regardless of their age. As in her earlier books Sister Aquinata proves to be a true guide into the spirit of Benedict's Rule, which provides sound principles for listening in common in a community of life.

Download or read book Called to Bless written by John Rice and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2024-05-23 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humans were created to bless one another, those they love and those they do not. According to Scripture (Num 6:27), God promises to release more of his blessings, more of his goodness, grace, and love into the world. In Hebrew the word for “bless” means “God’s intention.” When people speak words of blessing, in God’s name, they are praying for the fullness of God’s intentions to be released into their lives. In a world where division and polarization are becoming normative, God gives a “new” ministry resource—blessing ministry. The power of blessing can bridge those gaps and bring healing to the individuals involved. There is no individual situation, no community need where blessing prayers are not beneficial. Wherever there is joy and celebration in people’s lives, blessing prayers bring only more joy and thanksgiving. There is an awakening in the lives of God’s people wherever the ministry of blessing is being taught and practiced. Communities are experiencing greater health. Churches are becoming more alive. Hearts are being healed and lives transformed, simply by blessing others in Jesus’ name. God is calling his people to become a people of blessing!
