Book Synopsis Necessary Knowledge by : Leslie Smith
Download or read book Necessary Knowledge written by Leslie Smith and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1993, this monograph addresses a central problem in Piaget’s work, which is the temporal construction of necessary knowledge. The main argument is that both normative and empirical issues are relevant to a minimally adequate account of the development of modal understanding. This central argument embodies three main claims. One claim is philosophical. Although the concepts of knowledge and necessity are problematic, there is sufficient agreement about their core elements due to the fundamental difference between truth-value and modality. Any account of human rationality has to respect this distinction. The second claim is that this normative distinction is not always respected in psychological research on the origins of knowledge where emphasis is placed on the procedures and methods used to gain good empirical evidence. An account of the initial acquisition of knowledge is not thereby an account of its legitimation in the human mind. The third claim relates to epistemology. Intellectual development is a process in which available knowledge is used in the construction of better knowledge. The monograph identifies features of a modal model of intellectual construction, whereby some form of necessary knowledge is always used. Intellectual development occurs as the reduction of modal errors through the differentiation and coordination of available forms of modal understanding. Piaget’s work continues to provide distinctive and intelligible answers to a substantive and outstanding problem.

Book Synopsis The Mind of Society by : Yvon Provencal
Download or read book The Mind of Society written by Yvon Provencal and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-12-19 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1999. This book brings together the ideas of theoretician Marvin Minsky and philosopher Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. Provencal's theory inverts Minsky's society of the mind into the mind of society, giving a new and firm basis to the Teilhardian idea of Noosphere and allowing for unsuspected transdisciplinary regularities between several scientific domains including physics, biology and anthropology. Provencal aims to show that a very special type of global, planetary consciousness is emerging and to explain better the way in which human ideas constitute a global, auto-organizing system.

Book Synopsis Natural and Artificial Intelligence by : A. de Callataÿ
Download or read book Natural and Artificial Intelligence written by A. de Callataÿ and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 695 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does the mind work? How is data stored in the brain? How does the mental world connect with the physical world? The hybrid system developed in this book shows a radically new view on the brain. Briefly, in this model memory remains permanent by changing the homeostasis rebuilding the neuronal organelles. These transformations are approximately abstracted as all-or-none operations. Thus the computer-like neural systems become plausible biological models. This illustrated book shows how artificial animals with such brains learn invariant methods of behavior control from their repeated actions. These robots can make decisions in any circumstances and reason by analogy whenever possible. This new and expanded edition includes a prologue exploring the problems which have stopped the development of fully fledged brain models. The causes of these deadlocks are listed as potential misconceptions about brain principles, neural networks, nervous systems, robotics, programming and decision logic.
Book Synopsis Piaget Or the Advance of Knowledge by : Jacques Montangero
Download or read book Piaget Or the Advance of Knowledge written by Jacques Montangero and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unusual volume presents an overview of Jean Piaget's work in psychology--from his earliest writings to posthumous publications. It also contains a glossary of the essential explanatory concepts found in this work. The focus is on Piaget's psychological studies and on the underlying epistemological theses. The book may be consulted in various ways depending on whether one is looking for an introduction to Piaget's theory, details about a particular concept, a survey of his body of work, or a historical perspective. Readers who are relatively unfamiliar with Piaget's ideas and seek access to them through this book will not necessarily proceed in the same way as those who are acquainted with Piaget's work and wish to refresh, synthesize, or complete their knowledge. The volume is divided into two major sections with several subdivisions as follows: * The Chronological Overview presents Piaget's early ideas and the most important sources of his inspiration, and reviews his research work dividing it into four main periods plus a transitional one. * The Glossary covers a number of explanatory concepts which are essential to Piaget's theory.

Book Synopsis Language and Mental Development by : Pierre Oléron
Download or read book Language and Mental Development written by Pierre Oléron and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-17 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1977, this book considers the role language plays in psychological development. It tries to avoid general discussions of "language and thought", an approach already sufficiently developed by philosophers and (although somewhat less) by psychologists. Instead it attempts to focus specifically upon what we can learn about the topic from available research findings at the time. Theoretical considerations are developed only when necessary to clarify an issue or to facilitate the integration of presented material. The aim of the work is simple – to share with the reader the author’s thoughts and understanding of available knowledge of the role of language in mental development.
Book Synopsis Troubles de l'apprentissage chez l'enfant by : LENOBLE Evelyne
Download or read book Troubles de l'apprentissage chez l'enfant written by LENOBLE Evelyne and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2014-01-15 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Dictionnaire D’épistémologie Génétique by : A.M. Battro
Download or read book Dictionnaire D’épistémologie Génétique written by A.M. Battro and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book After Piaget written by Eduardo Marti and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-28 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After Piaget proves that Jean Piaget's work is critical for understanding some of the most current proposals in the study of psychological development. It analyzes Piaget's legacy, moving beyond the harsh critiques that have circulated since he lost prominence. It also brings together new developments and research practices that have grown out of Jean Piaget's tradition, while providing a retrospective glance into the intellectual atmospheres of different periods at which the contributors encountered Piaget. This book reveals the richness and coherence of the School of Geneva's research during the last decades before Piaget's death. Contributions from scholars who formed part of the School of Geneva during the 1970s and '80s demonstrate Piaget's influence on such diverse fields as infant development, ethnology, neuropsychology, semiotic development, and epistemology. After Piaget is part of Transaction's History and Theory of Psychology series.
