Book excerpt: Linear Circuit Analysis provides concise and practical treatment of the basics of circuits suitable for undergraduates. Whilst mathematical rigour is not sacrificed, the book is written in an easily-readable style and also covers many topics from a practical, non-mathematical perspective. For those lecturers that wish to explore other teaching methods, the later chapters offer an introduction to the topological method of analysis. The text is ideal for a first course in circuits as the text starts by recapping basics such as Ohm's law before covering the nodal/mesh approach to circuit analysis. As such it equips students with effective analytical skills which will form a solid basis for the rest of their electronic engineering course.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now revised with a stronger emphasis on applications and more problems, this new Fourth Edition gives readers the opportunity to analyze, design, and evaluate linear circuits right from the start. The book's abundance of design examples, problems, and applications, promote creative skills and show how to choose the best design from several competing solutions. * Laplace first. The text's early introduction to Laplace transforms saves time spent on transitional circuit analysis techniques that will be superseded later on. Laplace transforms are used to explain all of the important dynamic circuit concepts, such as zero state and zero-input responses, impulse and step responses, convolution, frequency response, and Bode plots, and analog filter design. This approach provides students with a solid foundation for follow-up courses.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Newnes Linear IC Pocket Book is aimed at all engineers, technicians, students and experimenters who can build a design directly from a circuit diagram. In a highly concise form Ray Marston presents a huge compendium of circuits that can be built as they appear, adapted or used as building blocks. The devices used have been carefully chosen for their ease of availability and reasonable price. The selection of devices has been thoroughly reviewed for the second edition, which contains approximately 350 new diagrams. Marston deals mainly with strictly-linear ICs such as op-amps, pre-amplifiers, power amplifiers, signal-conditioners and power supply regulators, as well as various hybrid types: the 555 timer IC, bar-graph display drivers, CCD delay lines, function or wave form generators, phase-locked loops and power control ICs. The subjects are treated in an easy-to-read, highly practical manner with a minimum of mathematics. Ray Marston has proved, through hundreds of circuits articles and books, that he is one of the world's leading circuit designers and writers. He has written extensively for Electronics World, Nuts and Bolts, Electronics and Beyond, Popular Electronics, Electronics Now, Electronics Today International, and Electronics Australia, amongst others. All parts readily available from major suppliers. Packed with ready-to-build circuit designs. Handy reference for hobbyists, students and circuit designers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linear Circuit Transfer Functions: An introduction to Fast Analytical Techniques teaches readers how to determine transfer functions of linear passive and active circuits by applying Fast Analytical Circuits Techniques. Building on their existing knowledge of classical loop/nodal analysis, the book improves and expands their skills to unveil transfer functions in a swift and efficient manner. Starting with simple examples, the author explains step-by-step how expressing circuits time constants in different configurations leads to writing transfer functions in a compact and insightful way. By learning how to organize numerators and denominators in the fastest possible way, readers will speed-up analysis and predict the frequency response of simple to complex circuits. In some cases, they will be able to derive the final expression by inspection, without writing a line of algebra. Key features: Emphasizes analysis through employing time constant-based methods discussed in other text books but not widely used or explained. Develops current techniques on transfer functions, to fast analytical techniques leading to low-entropy transfer functions immediately exploitable for analysis purposes. Covers calculation techniques pertinent to different fields, electrical, electronics, signal processing etc. Describes how a technique is applied and demonstrates this through real design examples. All Mathcad® files used in examples and problems are freely available for download. An ideal reference for electronics or electrical engineering professionals as well as BSEE and MSEE students, this book will help teach them how to: become skilled in the art of determining transfer function by using less algebra and obtaining results in a more effectual way; gain insight into a circuit’s operation by understanding how time constants rule dynamic responses; apply Fast Analytical Techniques to simple and complicated circuits, passive or active and be more efficient at solving problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides readers with the necessary background information and advanced concepts in the field of circuits, at the crossroads between physics, mathematics and system theory. It covers various engineering subfields, such as electrical devices and circuits, and their electronic counterparts. Based on the idea that a modern university course should provide students with conceptual tools to understand the behavior of both linear and nonlinear circuits, to approach current problems posed by new, cutting-edge devices and to address future developments and challenges, the book places equal emphasis on linear and nonlinear, two‐terminal and multi‐terminal, as well as active and passive circuit components. The theory is developed systematically, starting with the simplest circuits (linear, time-invariant and resistive) and providing food for thought on nonlinear circuits, potential functions, linear algebra and geometrical interpretations of selected results. Contents are organized into a set of first‐level and a set of advanced‐level topics. The book is rich in examples and includes numerous solved problems. Further topics, such as signal processing and modeling of non-electric physical phenomena (e.g., hysteresis or biological oscillators) will be discussed in volume 2.

He showed how bipolar analog circuits can realize nonlinear and computational functions. This extended the analog art from linear to nonlinear applications, hence the name trans linear circuits. Not only did this new principle enable marvellous signal processing functions to be accurately implemented, but also the circuits were simple and practical. The perennial problems of analog Ie design, namely temperature sensitivity, processing spread, device nonlinearity and paracitic capacitance were solved to a large extent. Using the trans linear principle in circuit design requires changing your point of view in two ways. First, the grossly nonlinear characteristic of transistors is viewed as an asset rather than as a harmful property. Second, no longer are the signals represented by voltages, but by currents. In fact, the attendant voltage changes are distorted but, as they are very small, they are only of secondary interest. Understanding and analyzing a given trans linear circuit is fairly straightforward. But what about the converse situation: suppose you're given some nonlinear or computational function to implement? How to find a suitable translinear circuit realization? The general problem of analog circuit synthesis is a difficult one and is receiving much attention nowadays. Some years ago, I had the opportunity to investigate methods for designing bipolar trans linear circuits. It turned out that translinear networks have some unique topological properties. Using these properties it was possible to establish heuristic synthesis procedures.

Book excerpt: "In this fifth edition, we not only have kept the standard 741 op amp but also have shown many circuits with newer, readily available op amps because these have largely overcome the dc and ac limitations of the older types. We preserved or objective of simplifying the process of learning about applications involving signal conditioning, signal generation, filters, instrumentation, and control circuits. But we have oriented this fifth edition to reflect the evolution of analog circuits into those applications whose purpose is to condition signals from transducers or other sources into form suitable for presentation to a microcontroller or computer. In addition, we have added examples of circuit simulation using PSpice throughout this edition."--Introduction.
