Book Synopsis The Linear Sampling Method in Inverse Electromagnetic Scattering by : Fioralba Cakoni
Download or read book The Linear Sampling Method in Inverse Electromagnetic Scattering written by Fioralba Cakoni and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The linear sampling method is the oldest and most developed of the qualitative methods in inverse scattering theory. It is based on solving a linear integral equation and then using the equation's solution as an indicator function for the determination of the support of the scattering object. This book describes the linear sampling method for a variety of electromagnetic scattering problems. It presents uniqueness theorems and the derivation of various inequalities on the material properties of the scattering object from a knowledge of the far field pattern of the scattered wave.

Book Synopsis Theory of Elastic Wave Propagation and its Application to Scattering Problems by : Terumi Touhei
Download or read book Theory of Elastic Wave Propagation and its Application to Scattering Problems written by Terumi Touhei and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-04-24 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Elastic wave propagation applies to a wide variety of fields, including seismology, non-destructive testing, energy resource exploration, and site characterization. New applications for elastic waves are still being discovered. Theory of Elastic Wave Propagation and its Application to Scattering Problems starts from the standpoint of continuum mechanics, explaining stress and strain tensors in terms of mathematics and physics, and showing the derivation of equations for elastic wave motions, to give readers a stronger foundation. It emphasizes the importance of Green’s function for applications of the elastic wave equation to practical engineering problems and covers elastic wave propagation in a half-space, in addition to the spectral representation of Green’s function. Finally, the MUSIC algorithm is used to address inverse scattering problems. Offers comprehensive coverage of fundamental concepts through to contemporary applications of elastic wave propagation Bridges the gap between theoretical principles and practical engineering solutions The book’s website provides the author’s software for analyzing elastic wave propagations, along with detailed answers to the problems presented, to suit graduate students across engineering and applied mathematics.
Book Synopsis Computational Electromagnetics and Model-Based Inversion by : Harold A Sabbagh
Download or read book Computational Electromagnetics and Model-Based Inversion written by Harold A Sabbagh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-22 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume will define the direction of eddy-current technology in nondestructive evaluation (NDE) in the twenty-first century. It describes the natural marriage of the computer to eddy-current NDE, and its publication was encouraged by favorable responses from workers in the nuclear-power and aerospace industries. It will be used by advanced students and practitioners in the fields of computational electromagnetics, electromagnetic inverse-scattering theory, nondestructive evaluation, materials evaluation and biomedical imaging, among others, and will be based on our experience in applying the subject of computational electromagnetics to these areas, as manifested by our recent research and publications. Finally, it will be a reference to future monographs on advanced NDE that are being contemplated by our colleagues and others. Its importance lies in the fact that it will be the first book to show that advanced computational methods can be used to solve practical, but difficult, problems in eddy-current NDE. In fact, in many cases these methods are the only things available for solving the problems. The book will cover the topic of computational electromagnetics in eddy-current nondestructive evaluation (NDE) by emphasizing three distinct topics: (a) fundamental mathematical principles of volume-integral equations as a subset of computational electromagnetics, (b) mathematical algorithms applied to signal-processing and inverse scattering problems, and (c) applications of these two topics to problems in which real and model data are used. This will make the book more than an academic exercise; we expect it to be valuable to users of eddy-current NDE technology in industries as varied as nuclear power, aerospace, materials characterization and biomedical imaging. We know of no other book on the market that covers this material in the manner in which we will present it, nor are there any books, to our knowledge, that apply this material to actual test situations that are of importance to the industries cited. It will be the first book to actually define the modern technology of eddy-current NDE, by showing how mathematics and the computer will solve problems more effectively than current analog practice.

Book Synopsis The Legacy of the Inverse Scattering Transform in Applied Mathematics by : J. L. Bona
Download or read book The Legacy of the Inverse Scattering Transform in Applied Mathematics written by J. L. Bona and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2002-10-29 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains new developments and state-of-the-art research arising from the conference on the ``Legacy of the Inverse Scattering Transform'' held at Mount Holyoke College (South Hadley, MA). Unique to this volume is the opening section, ``Reviews''. This part of the book provides reviews of major research results in the inverse scattering transform (IST), on the application of IST to classical problems in differential geometry, on algebraic and analytic aspects of soliton-type equations, on a new method for studying boundary value problems for integrable partial differential equations (PDEs) in two dimensions, on chaos in PDEs, on advances in multi-soliton complexes, and on a unified approach to integrable systems via Painleve analysis. This conference provided a forum for general exposition and discussion of recent developments in nonlinear waves and related areas with potential applications to other fields. The book will be of interest to graduate students and researchers interested in mathematics, physics, and engineering.
