Malgré cela, le taux d'interruption volontaire de grossesse en France reste élevé, environ 200 000 par an. La contraception est le plus souvent débutée par un gynécologue ou un médecin généraliste. Du fait de la modification de la démographie médicale, de plus en plus de médecins vont être amenés à assurer le suivi gynécologique de leurs patientes. La pilule contraceptive est le moyen le plus prescrit en France malgré les risques d'inobservance. L'implant contraceptif, tout comme le dispositif intra utérin, est un contraceptif de longue durée d'action. De nombreuses études ont montré son efficacité. Actuellement, il est majoritairement posé par des gynécologues. Le but de cette étude est de voir si les médecins généralistes, particulièrement ceux de la ville de Bondy et de ses environs les posent aussi. Il apparait que 15% des médecins interrogés en posent et parmi ceux qui ne le font pas, ils sont 45% à vouloir apprendre ce geste. Certains freins ont été mis en évidence notamment le manque de formation. Une amélioration de celle-ci ainsi que son accès pourrait inciter plus de médecins à choisir et à poser ce moyen contraceptif. Ces éléments pourraient favoriser une meilleure prise en charge contraceptive des femmes et ainsi peut être aider à diminuer le taux d'IVG.

De ce fait, les médecins généralistes prennent en charge la santé de la femme et sa contraception. L'HAS recommande d'utiliser des moyens de contraception de longue durée d'action. Or l'implant contraceptif, dont la durée d'action est de 3 ans, reste peu utilisé. En effet seul 4.3% des femmes disposant d'un moyen de contraception, ont recours à l'implant contraceptif. Il est intéressant de se demander la place du médecin généraliste dans la contraception de la femme et ses pratiques vis-à-vis de l'implant contraceptif. L'étude est une étude quantitative observationnelle basée sur un questionnaire élaboré grâce au logiciel GoogleForm® et dont les données ont été interprétées par le logiciel GMRC ShinyStats ®. Ce questionnaire a été envoyé à 1144 médecins généralistes d'Alsace et 102 réponses ont été collectées (8.9%). La moyenne d'âge de l'échantillon est de 50.3 ans et il y a 55% de femmes. 45% de l'échantillon exerce en zone semi-rurale contre 33% en zone urbaine et 22% en zone rurale. 11% font plus de 20 consultations de gynécologie par mois, dont 82% de femmes. 64% des médecins généralistes interrogés prescrivent l'implant. 47% posent des implants et 49% en retirent. Les principaux freins sont le manque de formation et les effets secondaires de l'implant contraceptif. L'apprentissage à la pose et au retrait de l'implant se fait principalement lors de la formation médicale continue ou en auto-formation. Sur le plan démographique, la désertification des gynécologues et la féminisation de la profession entraine une augmentation des consultations de gynécologie et notamment de contraception avec la pose et le retrait d'implants contraceptifs chez les médecins généralistes. Le principal frein à la pose et au retrait, le manque de formation, devrait s'amender avec la réforme du troisième cycle du DES de médecine générale et le nouveau stage « santé de la femme ». L'autre point important est l'information des patientes sur l'implant, sa durée d'action et ses effets secondaires. Dans les années à venir, la santé de la femme et notamment sa contraception va prendre une place plus importante dans la pratique des médecins généralistes, la nouvelle formation de ceux-ci va optimiser cette transition.

Nelly Oudshoorn explains why it is that, although the technical feasibility of male contraceptives was demonstrated as early as the 1970s, there is, to date, no male pill. Ever since the idea of hormonal contraceptives for men was introduced, scientists, feminists, journalists, and pharmaceutical entrepreneurs have questioned whether men and women would accept a new male contraceptive if one were available. Providing a richly detailed examination of the cultural, scientific, and policy work around the male pill from the 1960s through the 1990s, Oudshoorn advances work at the intersection of gender studies and the sociology of technology. Oudshoorn emphasizes that the introduction of contraceptives for men depends to a great extent on changing ideas about reproductive responsibility. Initial interest in the male pill, she shows, came from outside the scientific community: from the governments of China and India, which were interested in population control, and from Western feminists, who wanted the responsibilities and health risks associated with contraception shared more equally between the sexes. She documents how in the 1970s, the World Health Organization took the lead in investigating male contraceptives by coordinating an unprecedented, worldwide research network. She chronicles how the search for a male pill required significant reorganization of drug-testing standards and protocols and of the family-planning infrastructure—including founding special clinics for men, creating separate spaces for men within existing clinics, enrolling new professionals, and defining new categories of patients. The Male Pill is ultimately a story as much about the design of masculinities in the last decades of the twentieth century as it is about the development of safe and effective technologies.
