Book excerpt: One man’s search for truth on a personal journey of invention and faith! Today, magnetic resonance imaging machines (MRIs) and similar technologies are saving lives in hospitals and clinics throughout the world. In 1969, this kind of technique was just an idea in the visionary mind of Dr. Raymond Damadian. As a young boy, he watched his grandmother die painfully from breast cancer. Dr. Damadian would eventually decide on a career in medical research and pioneer this field of amazing research. Although in 1971 his concept of detecting tumors through magnetic resonance imaging was widely met with skepticism, he became the first researcher to do a full-body scan of a human being in 1977 in order to see if there was cancer present. His life has been an incredible journey of discovery helping you learn: How his concept for cancer detection was inspired and developed Why faith became an integral part of his work Why he is a strong supporter of the creativity and freedom found in patents. From resourcefully creating his discoveries on a shoestring budget to a battle with the business behemoth known as G.E., learn how the exciting development of this technology led him to a self examination of his life and faith. What driving force is at the heart of what can arguably be called one of the greatest minds in the past 50 years and how does faith play a crucial role in his work?

Book excerpt: When a single mom ends up playing an unwilling fake girlfriend to a charming playboy baseball player, love suddenly turns everything upside down in this fun, heartwarming multicultural romance. Angel Gomez has never lived by the book. A Bronx-based unwed mother by the time she was sixteen, Angel’s personal mission has always been to show the world that a Puerto Rican girl is not to be messed with—especially by a man. The only thing that matters to Angel, now, is providing for her son and earning enough tips at the club to complete her nursing degree along the way. Love is nowhere on her agenda. Caleb “The Duke” Lewis is a star pitcher for the Bronx Bolts whose romantic escapades make delicious fodder for gossip columns. But lately he’s been trying to keep a lower profile—so much so that when he meets Angel, first while she’s in her nurse uniform and the next time behind the bar, she has no idea who Duke is, fails to fall for his obvious charm, and ends up throwing a drink in his face! She is the perfect woman for Duke...to fool the tabloids into thinking he’s finally settling down. But what begins as a charade soon has Duke and Angel hurtling into a full-blown romance that rocks each of their worlds and begs the question: Is this the real deal—or are some love stories just too good to be true?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bamboo and Bonsai is the story of a Kansas boy who spent his entire career as a missionary in Japan. His service spanned forty-three years as a missionary of the Church of God. He was the founder and director of the Seminary House program. It was designed to prepare seminarians to become pastors in the Church of God. It offered specialized training in the theology and history of the Church of God. He directed this program for twenty-two years. He was also the principal of Tamagawa Seigakuin a girls junior-senior school in Tokyo. He led a staff of fifty Japanese nationals and four American teachers and over one thousand students in preparing young women from a Christian perspective to develop their God-given talents for life and service in Japanese society. While serving in the field of education, he also pastored churches in Tokyo assisted by unordained ministers. His duties were primarily preaching and conducting official meetings of the church. Later, assisted by his wife, Phyllis, they pioneered a new church congregation in Hagiyama, a suburb of Tokyo. It was a challenging and gratifying endeavor to introduce the people of the community to the gospel, lead them to become Christians, and nurture them as they matured in their faith.

Book excerpt: Lieutenant Donal Connor has been given the most bizarre of new cases. Four famous stage performers have died in recent months, thee of them in state capitals within Transifica, the fourth in far Zurinam. And now the idolised diva Maria deLivnova is coming to Tristopolis. Donal's boss is determined that nothing like this is ever to happen in his city. Connor is to have anything he needs, as long the diva lives. And so begins a dark investigation through a world where corpses give up their pyschic energy in the massive necroflux generators which power the city, where gargoyles talk, where wraiths work in slavery, a world of the dead where corruption is alive. This is an extraordinary SF novel set in alternate universe quite unlike any imagined in SF before; a universe where magic and the supernatural and the undead are given a scientific rationale and hoorfyingly plausible rationale. The novel's setting, Tristopolis, is the ultimate noir city; an immense baroque creation of haunted stone skyscrapers, black metal and city-wide catacombs. Its hero Donal Connor is immensely likeable and easy to identify with. Even once he's dead.
