D This removal to the far west in 1847 was a land mark in my life, for from that time on I remember everything that happened. Part of our household goods were sold and the rest carefully packed in large boxes. My mother cooked up a large quantity of food to last us on our journey. Several teams took us and our goods to Whitehall, New York, which was one terminus of the Erie Canal. While waiting for the boat there, my father took me up to the top of a steep hill to get a View of Lake Champlain and the country. On our way down, I fell and began to roll swiftly down the hill. Fortunately something brought me to a st0p on the very brink of an overhanging cliff of rocks. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. John Brooks, in Which Are Contained a History of the Great Revival in Tennessee: With Many Incidents of Thrilling Interest Having passed through one of the most impor tant Revivals of Religion that has ever taken place in Middle Tennessee, and having been personally engaged in it from first to last, I have concluded to give a small history of that tremeu' dous work of God, and some of the extraordinary scenes that took place during that Revival. I shall add a small history of Methodism and the Methodist Church, before and during that Revival, and how she was treated by other denominations. As there are a few living, as yet, that saw Meth odism in her infancy; yea, 'her first friends, who fed and lodged her first preachers, Iintend to get a small history from them and add it to this work. I have been requested to add a history of my life as well as times. May 'god's blessing go with it till time shall end or it falls out of print. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lives and Times of the Patriots was first published in 1938, the centennial of the Upper Canadian Rebellion and the subsequent Patriot raids over the border from the United States. The Canadian part of the agitation for constitutional and social reform, long a subject of controversy and bitterness, is now generally considered to be, as Sir Wilfrid Laurier put it, a fight "for constitutional rights, not against the British Crown"; but very little in the American movement, allegedly in sympathy, can be justified, its aims and conduct being no better than—and often interior to—the Fenian Raids of some thirty years later. The story of the events and their consequences is unfolded from a wide coverage of source materials, and described from both Tory and Reform, Loyalist and Patriot point of view. Exciting trails and escapes from jails and forts follow one another in quick succession, and the lives and experiences of participants are traced around the world to the prison colony of Van Diemen's Land and home again, as diaries, letters, and narratives tell their story, supplemented and verified by official documents, contemporary newspapers, obituary notices, and tombstone inscriptions. Rare illustrations complement this careful account of what must be taken to be, with all its deficiencies, a notable episode in the history of human freedom.
