Book excerpt: Book Description Since the beginning of mankind, there have always been individuals who start life with disadvantages but by sighting their Aim High above mediocrity they have accomplished great things! I chose the title Aim High for this book as an analogy to impress upon the readers that regardless of their beginnings by sighting their Aim High they can go on to be the best that they can be at whatever they want. The key to success is first to develop a desire for something. What do you want out of life? Once a desire is instilled within, motivation follows, and then you must write out a well thought out plan of action on how to do what you want to achieve then you must follow through with action. I believe we all have a purpose in life. The hard part is to find out what that something is. What is your purpose? The soul that has not established aim loses itself. Montaigne (15331592) In the book Aim High I have done my best to present in sixteen steps guidance and stimulus for success. Success does not happen immediately. Achieving success happens by having a series of successes. The first successes are small, but as you move up one step at a time, you will move up to accomplish higher and higher achievements. Aim High is a self-help book about self- improvement. I have written the sixteen-step aim high path to personal achievementstudy guide in a way that I hope will help all who read it improve the quality of their lives. We go through life making choices. We have the capacity to direct our destiny by the choices we make In the Aim High book I have presented sixteen points I call steps: Effort, Example, Enthusiasm, Spiritual, Physical, Personal, Encouragement, Personality, Financial, Career, Looks, Speak, Purpose, Plan, Belief, Action. These sixteen points provide guidance and serve as a stimulus for success through self-motivation. It is the awaking of the inner self to the potential that can be realized. In order to reach your highest and fullest potential, you must first have the courage to think, to imagine, to dream. Dream! What do you want for yourself out of life? What do you desire? The definition of desire in (thesaurus) is synonyms with hunger, craving, longing, and yearning. Desire will stoke your self-motivation to do! Your first priority is to decide and establish what you desire as your goal. Goal setting is the single most important ingredient in self-motivation that leads to achieving success. Your next priority is to write out a specific plan of action about how you are going to achieve your goal, and you should know why you want you desire it. Then go after your goal with passion, a burning desire within you. To do it! My grandson Ryan invited me to go to the movie, The Empire Strikes Back. I was impressed with what the Jedi teacher teaches his student about engaging the force that is the greatest power in the universe. He tells his student that there is no try, that there is either do or not do. Another important ingredient necessary to achieve success is self-confidence. Self-confidence is a by- product of preparation, and in order to succeed you must discipline yourself to establish the habit of doing what need to be done. Now, not tomorrow! Affirm to yourself, I have faith and belief in myself that I will achieve my goal because I expect to achieve it, because I will work hard to do so, and that no matter what the circumstances, I will never give up. Action is what produces results! Do Power! The thrust of Aim High is to implant the sixteen steps outlined in this book into your mind as seeds necessary for success. We are all born with a powerful toolour brain, and it is up to each and every one of us to learn how to use that powerful tool more efficiently and effectively. On the cover of Aim High, there is a red dot in the center. That dot represents you, and you are your own bulls-eye! To try to hit right in the center of the bulls-ey

Book excerpt: In a world where nature's voice is slowly fading, "Sanctuary of Earth" offers a powerful narrative that echoes with the urgency of our times. This book delves deep into the heart of our planet's most vulnerable ecosystems, bringing to life the final struggles of the forests, oceans, deserts, and other natural sanctuaries that once flourished with untamed beauty. Each chapter is a poignant reminder of the consequences of environmental degradation, painting vivid pictures of wildernesses on the brink, where every sound, every movement, is a testament to nature's resilience against overwhelming odds. From the haunting silence of dying forests to the last whispers of a desert fighting for survival, "Sanctuary of Earth" invites readers to walk alongside the guardians of these fragile worlds. The book takes you on a journey from the depths of the ocean, where the last sentinels of the deep stand guard, to the final migrations across tundras and prairies, where the echoes of life persist despite the encroaching shadows of extinction. The struggle of bees in their dwindling hives, the fight of wildflowers in meadows against a vanishing wind, and the silent stories of glaciers as they melt into memory—all are captured in this deeply interconnected narrative that speaks to the resilience of life and the delicate balance we are in danger of losing. "Sanctuary of Earth" is not just a book; it's a call to action. It's a reminder that these ecosystems are not just stories on a page but living, breathing entities that need our protection now more than ever. As you turn the pages, you'll find yourself immersed in the symphony of the seas, the final stand of ancient forests, and the battle for the last gardens of Eden. This book is a reflection on the beauty that remains and a plea for humanity to recognize its role in preserving the last sanctuaries of our Earth before they are lost to us forever.

Book excerpt: STEAM Lab for Kids is an art-forward doorway to science, math, technology, and engineering through 52 family-friendly experiments and activities. While many aspiring artists don’t necessarily identify with STEM subjects, and many young inventors don’t see the need for art, one is essential to the other. Revealing this connection and encouraging kids to explore it fills hungry minds with tools essential to problem solving and creative thinking. Each of the projects in this book is designed to demonstrate that the deeper you look into art, the more engineering and math you’ll find. Following clear, photo-illustrated step-by-step instructions, learn about: Angular momentum by creating tie-dyed fidget spinners. Electrical conductors by making a light-up graphite-circuit comic book. Kinetic energy by constructing a rubber-band racer car. Parabolic curves by creating string art with pushpins and a board. Symmetry by making fruit and veggie stamp paintings. And much more! Along with the creative, hands-on activities, you’ll find: Suggestions for taking your projects to the next level with “Creative Enrichment.” Accessible explanations of the “The STEAM Behind the Fun,” including cross-disciplinary related topics. Safety tips and hints. The projects can be used as part of a homeschool curriculum, for family fun, at parties, or as educational activities for groups. Many of the activities are safe enough for children as young as toddlers and exciting enough for older kids, so families can discover the joy of STEAM together. The popular Lab for Kids series features a growing list of books that share hands-on activities and projects on a wide host of topics, including art, astronomy, clay, geology, math, and even how to create your own circus—all authored by established experts in their fields. Each lab contains a complete materials list, clear step-by-step photographs of the process, as well as finished samples. The labs can be used as singular projects or as part of a yearlong curriculum of experiential learning. The activities are open-ended, designed to be explored over and over, often with different results. Geared toward being taught or guided by adults, they are enriching for a range of ages and skill levels. Gain firsthand knowledge on your favorite topic with Lab for Kids.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "How are we placed on Earth? What is our relationship to the world around us, and how does our thinking affect the way we relate to the world? We are entrapped, says A. James Wohlpart, by what Martin Heidegger calls "enframing," a worldview that considers all objects as mere resources for our use. Walking in the Land of Many Gods envisions a new way of thinking about the world, one grounded in a moral imagination reconnected to Earth. Insightful readings of three contemporary classics of nature writing--Janisse Ray's Ecology of a Cracker Childhood, Terry Tempest Williams's Refuge: An Unnatural History of Family and Place, and Linda Hogan's Dwellings: A Spiritual History of the Living World--are at the heart of Wohlpart's endeavor. Powerful and affecting works like these reveal a pathway to a deeper remembering, one that reconnects us with the primal forces of creation and acknowledges the sacredness of the world. We have forgotten that the world around us is rich and fertile and generative, says Wohlpart. His exploration of these literary works, based on deep anthropology and Native American philosophy, opens a pathway into a new way of thinking called sacred reason. Founded on interdependence and interrelationship, and on care and compassion, sacred reason reminds us that divinity exists around us at all times. We are invited to walk, once again, in a land filled with many gods."--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Female "circumcision" or, more precisely, female genital cutting (FGC), remains an important cultural practice in many African countries, often serving as a coming-of-age ritual. It is also a practice that has generated international dispute and continues to be at the center of debates over women's rights, the limits of cultural pluralism, the balance of power between local cultures, international human rights, and feminist activism. In our increasingly globalized world, these practices have also begun immigrating to other nations, where transnational complexities vex debates about how to resolve the issue. Bringing together thirteen essays, Transcultural Bodies provides an ethnographically rich exploration of FGC among African diasporas in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia. Contributors analyze changes in ideologies of gender and sexuality in immigrant communities, the frequent marginalization of African women's voices in debates over FGC, and controversies over legislation restricting the practice in immigrant populations.
