At seven weeks old, he was almost the same size as the rest of his canine family, the three Cocker Spaniels Molly, Poppy and Bailey. For Monty's 'hoomans', who were experiencing life with a giant breed for the first time, everything was about to change. In what seemed like the blink of an eye, he went from cute fluffy puppy to hormone-fuelled hooligan. Every day brought a new - and often chaotic - escapade. It was at this point, back in 2011, that hooman Dad Mark decided to document Monty's life in a Facebook blog. This wasn't just a normal blog, though; this was Monty's world through his eyes. This was life according to Monty Dogge...

Book Synopsis Canis Africanis by : Lance Van Sittert
Download or read book Canis Africanis written by Lance Van Sittert and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2008 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of the dog in human society is the connecting thread that binds the essays in "Canis Africanis," each revealing a different part of the complex social history of southern Africa. The essays range widely from concerns over disease, bestiality, and social degradation through gambling on dogs to anxieties over social status reflected through breed classifications, and social rebellion through resisting the dog tax imposed by colonial authorities. With its focus on dogs in human history, this project is part of what has been termed the 'animal turn' in the social sciences, which investigates the spaces which animals inhabit in human society and the way in which animal and human lives interconnect, demonstrating how different human groups construct a range of identities for themselves (and for others) in terms of animals. So instead of conceiving of animals as merely constituents of ecological or agricultural systems, they can be comprehended through their role in human cultures.

Book excerpt: Vampires do not exist. Everyone knows this. So it's particularly annoying when they start popping up around Manchester . . . Nobody is pleased about it. Not the Founders, the secret organisation for whom vampires were invented as an allegory, nor the Folk, the magical people hidden in plain sight who only want a quiet life. And definitely not the people of Manchester, because there is nothing more irksome than being murdered by an allegory run amok. Somebody needs to sort this out fast before all Hell really breaks loose - step forward the staff of The Stranger Times. It's not like they don't have enough to be dealing with. Assistant Editor Hannah has come back from getting messily divorced to discover that someone is trying to kidnap a member of their staff and while editor Vincent Banecroft would be delighted to see the back of any of his team, he doesn't like people touching his stuff - it's the principle of the thing. Throw in a precarious plumbing situation, gambling debts, an entirely new way of swearing, and a certain detective inspector with what could be kindly referred to as 'a lot of baggage' and it all adds up to another hectic week in the life of the newspaper committed to reporting the truth that nobody else will touch. This Charming Man is the second book in the critically acclaimed The Stranger Times series. 'A gag-filled romp . . . in the spirit of Terry Pratchett.' The Times 'Great characters, a jet-propelled plot, and a winning premise.' Guardian 'Fresh and genuinely funny.' SFX

Download or read book Chroma written by Derek Jarman and published by Random House. This book was released on 2017-12-14 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A poetic, passionate and intensely personal exploration of colour written during the final year of Derek Jarman's life -- with a new introduction by Ali Smith. In Chroma, his most poetic and lyrical book, Derek Jarman explores the uses of colour. Shifting across the spectrum and from the medieval to the modern, he draws on the work of great colour theorists from Pliny to Leonardo. Interwoven with these musings are evocative memories from Jarman's childhood and illustrious career, along with reflections on his deteriorating health. Written a year before Jarman’s death, and as his eyesight was failing, this is an intensely personal work; a paean from an artist seeking to memorialise the extraordinary power of colour even while it receded from his own life.

Book Synopsis The Complete Works of Monte Dogge by : M.T. Sanders
Download or read book The Complete Works of Monte Dogge written by M.T. Sanders and published by . This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wyming Wendlesday started back in 2017 and originally began with a silly weekly poem just to start everyone's day with a smile. It became very popular and kind of took on a life of its own with Monty the self-titled Poet Newfiette penning verses about his life in Wigwam, observations of his hoomans, and his agony of sharing a home with Cookie aka the Heffalump aka the Hairy Hippo, and of course the Spangles. When the 'Cwissymouse' poems started in 2015 they were so popular that we had the idea of asking for a donation to charity leading up to their release the week before the big day. This resulted in thousands of pounds being raised for animal welfare, veterans and children's charities. Monty passed in 2022 but not before sharing his life with everyone through his stories and poems. This book has been a labour of love for me and a lovely way to honour his memory. I hope you enjoy the complete works of Monty Dogge and they bring a smile to your day. I know that would make him very happy.
