This book was released on 2016-02-29 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the night of April 18, 1775, Paul Revere arrived at the parsonage of Reverend Jonas Clarke to deliver a warning to its occupants, including Samuel Adams and John Hancock. The following morning brought the first shots of the American Revolution to a community Clarke inspired to face such a harsh reality. He called on his parish to oppose imperial legislation for years leading up to the war. And as Lexington's minister for half a century, he was central to political, civic and social life there until his death in 1805. Historian Richard P. Kollen reveals the often overlooked story of the man who helped shape the spirit of the American Revolution.

Book Synopsis The Lexington Six by : Josephine Donovan
Download or read book The Lexington Six written by Josephine Donovan and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-30 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On September 23, 1970, a group of antiwar activists staged a robbery at a bank in Massachusetts, during which a police officer was killed. While the three men who participated in the robbery were soon apprehended, two women escaped and became fugitives on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list, eventually landing in a lesbian collective in Lexington, Kentucky, during the summer of 1974. In pursuit, the FBI launched a massive dragnet. Five lesbian women and one gay man ended up in jail for refusing to cooperate with federal officials, whom they saw as invading their lives and community. Dubbed the Lexington Six, the group's resistance attracted national attention, inspiring a nationwide movement in other minority communities. Like the iconic Stonewall demonstrations, this gripping story of spirited defiance has special resonance in today's America. Drawing on transcripts of the judicial hearings, contemporaneous newspaper accounts, hundreds of pages of FBI files released to the author under the Freedom of Information Act, and interviews with many of the participants, Josephine Donovan reconstructs this fascinating, untold story. The Lexington Six is a vital addition to LGBTQ, feminist, and radical American history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As history's raw material, documents serve as our gateway into the past. In this exciting new book, Lexington historian Richard Kollen places these faded and crinkled relics within their historical context to reveal a picture of a bygone society. This collection of essays describes the ordinary and the extraordinary in Lexington's history. Kollen paints a rich portrait of colonial and post-Revolution life, from the infamous Battle of Lexington to misconstrued Puritanical marriage. This engaging book is organized according to three basic and timeless categories? matters of home and community, matters of finance and matters of war. Kollen's easy style relates a time long gone to present issues and shows how Lexington's history can enrich and broaden our view of American history.

Book Synopsis High Performance Embedded Computing Handbook by : David R. Martinez
Download or read book High Performance Embedded Computing Handbook written by David R. Martinez and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past several decades, applications permeated by advances in digital signal processing have undergone unprecedented growth in capabilities. The editors and authors of High Performance Embedded Computing Handbook: A Systems Perspective have been significant contributors to this field, and the principles and techniques presented in the handbook are reinforced by examples drawn from their work. The chapters cover system components found in today’s HPEC systems by addressing design trade-offs, implementation options, and techniques of the trade, then solidifying the concepts with specific HPEC system examples. This approach provides a more valuable learning tool, Because readers learn about these subject areas through factual implementation cases drawn from the contributing authors’ own experiences. Discussions include: Key subsystems and components Computational characteristics of high performance embedded algorithms and applications Front-end real-time processor technologies such as analog-to-digital conversion, application-specific integrated circuits, field programmable gate arrays, and intellectual property–based design Programmable HPEC systems technology, including interconnection fabrics, parallel and distributed processing, performance metrics and software architecture, and automatic code parallelization and optimization Examples of complex HPEC systems representative of actual prototype developments Application examples, including radar, communications, electro-optical, and sonar applications The handbook is organized around a canonical framework that helps readers navigate through the chapters, and it concludes with a discussion of future trends in HPEC systems. The material is covered at a level suitable for practicing engineers and HPEC computational practitioners and is easily adaptable to their own implementation requirements.
