Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To many believers the theme of the burnt-offering is very familiar, but there are large numbers of God’s beloved people who have never carefully studied the marvelous types of the Person and work of Christ given us in the early chapters of Leviticus, where we have five distinct offerings, all setting forth various aspects of the work of the Cross and unfolding the glories of the Person who did that work-a Person transcending all the sons of men, for He was both Son of God and Son of Man, divinely human and humanly divine. We shall get great help for our souls if we meditate upon the marvelous pictures here given us of the great and wondrous truths which are unfolded in the New Testament. In coming to the study of the types, we should never found doctrines upon them, but discovering the doctrines in the New Testament, we will find them illustrated in the types of the Old.

Download or read book Core Christianity written by Michael Horton and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2016-04-05 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What beliefs are core to the Christian faith? This book is here to help you understand the reason for your hope as a Christian so that you can see it with fresh sight and invite others into the conversation. A lot of Christians take their story—the narratives that give rise to their beliefs—for granted. They pray, go to church, perhaps even read their Bible. But they might be stuck if a stranger asked them to explain what they believe and why they believe it. Author, pastor, and theologian Mike Horton unpacks the essential and basic beliefs that all Christians share in a way that is easy to understand and applicable to our lives today. And in a way that will make you excited to be a Christian! Core Christianity covers topics like: Jesus as both fully God and fully man. The doctrine of the Trinity. The goodness of God despite a broken world. The ways God speaks. The meaning of salvation. What is the Christian calling? Includes discussion questions for individual or group use. This introduction to the basic doctrines of Christianity is perfect for those who are new to the faith, as well as those who have an interest in deepening their understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
Book Synopsis Jesus and the Mystery of the Tamid Sacrifice by : Jerry Hunt
Download or read book Jesus and the Mystery of the Tamid Sacrifice written by Jerry Hunt and published by . This book was released on 2020-11-29 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twice-daily Tamid (standing) sacrifice was the focus of religious life from the time God established a covenant with the Israelites at Mount Sinai until the Jerusalem Temple's destruction in AD 70. No other sacrifice was to take precedence over the Tamid, and it was to continue as the centerpiece of worship for as long as the Sinai Covenant endured. However, the Tamid served as more than the means of atonement and covenant sanctification for Israel. It was also a sign of hope for the future sanctification for all peoples of the earth. Jesus of Nazareth is the fulfillment of that hope. The Passion of the Christ reveals the mystery of the single sacrifice of the two Tamid lambs-He who is fully man and God. Jesus became the true Tamid Lamb that all past Tamid lambs prefigured. Just as the unblemished Tamid lamb was the continual sacrifice presented in the Jerusalem Temple, Jesus is the holy unblemished Lamb "standing" before the throne of God in the heavenly Temple (Revelation 5:6). His sacrifice is continually made present in Heaven and on earthly altars during the Eucharistic celebration of the Mass.

He needs a sacrifice to remove his guilt, cleanse him from his defilements, and fit him for the holy presence of God. In the Old Testament, under Levitical law, it took five offerings—whole burnt, sin, trespass, peace, and meal—to properly portray the one offering of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary. So what made these offerings significant? Drawing from the ancient pages of the Pentateuch, Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart unearths the true meaning under these five offerings that were instructed by God Himself to Moses—offerings that portrayed the perfection, the glory, and the power of Jesus Christ.

Book excerpt: New York Times bestseller What is Jesus worth to you? It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily... But who do you know who lives like that? Do you? In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus. Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.
