Book Synopsis Syntax with oscillators and energy levels by : Sam Tilsen
Download or read book Syntax with oscillators and energy levels written by Sam Tilsen and published by Language Science Press. This book was released on 2019 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a new approach to studying the syntax of human language, one which emphasizes how we think about time. Tilsen argues that many current theories are unsatisfactory because those theories conceptualize syntactic patterns with spatially arranged structures of objects. These object-structures are atemporal and do not lend well to reasoning about time. The book develops an alternative conceptual model in which oscillatory systems of various types interact with each other through coupling forces, and in which the relative energies of those systems are organized in particular ways. Tilsen emphasizes that the two primary mechanisms of the approach – oscillators and energy levels – require alternative ways of thinking about time. Furthermore, his theory leads to a new way of thinking about grammaticality and the recursive nature of language. The theory is applied to a variety of syntactic phenomena: word order, phrase structure, morphosyntax, constituency, case systems, ellipsis, anaphora, and islands. The book also presents a general program for the study of language in which the construction of linguistic theories is itself an object of theoretical analysis.
Book Synopsis Random Matrices and the Statistical Theory of Energy Levels by : M. L. Mehta
Download or read book Random Matrices and the Statistical Theory of Energy Levels written by M. L. Mehta and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Random Matrices and the Statistical Theory of Energy Levels focuses on the processes, methodologies, calculations, and approaches involved in random matrices and the statistical theory of energy levels, including ensembles and density and correlation functions. The publication first elaborates on the joint probability density function for the matrix elements and eigenvalues, including the Gaussian unitary, symplectic, and orthogonal ensembles and time-reversal invariance. The text then examines the Gaussian ensembles, as well as the asymptotic formula for the level density and partition function. The manuscript elaborates on the Brownian motion model, circuit ensembles, correlation functions, thermodynamics, and spacing distribution of circular ensembles. Topics include continuum model for the spacing distribution, thermodynamic quantities, joint probability density function for the eigenvalues, stationary and nonstationary ensembles, and ensemble averages. The publication then examines the joint probability density functions for two nearby spacings and invariance hypothesis and matrix element correlations. The text is a valuable source of data for researchers interested in random matrices and the statistical theory of energy levels.
Book Synopsis Energy Levels in Atoms and Molecules by : William Graham Richards
Download or read book Energy Levels in Atoms and Molecules written by William Graham Richards and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the most fundamental level, all of chemistry is a reflection of the ways in which electrons and nuclei interact with each other. The behaviour of electrons and nuclei are controlled by the rules of quantum mechanics - rules which are quite unlike those in the familiar world of classical mechanics, and which may at first seem quite complex. Here, the authors show how quantum mechanics can explain the properties of atoms and molecules.
Book Synopsis Energy and Civilization by : Vaclav Smil
Download or read book Energy and Civilization written by Vaclav Smil and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive account of how energy has shaped society throughout history, from pre-agricultural foraging societies through today's fossil fuel–driven civilization. "I wait for new Smil books the way some people wait for the next 'Star Wars' movie. In his latest book, Energy and Civilization: A History, he goes deep and broad to explain how innovations in humans' ability to turn energy into heat, light, and motion have been a driving force behind our cultural and economic progress over the past 10,000 years. —Bill Gates, Gates Notes, Best Books of the Year Energy is the only universal currency; it is necessary for getting anything done. The conversion of energy on Earth ranges from terra-forming forces of plate tectonics to cumulative erosive effects of raindrops. Life on Earth depends on the photosynthetic conversion of solar energy into plant biomass. Humans have come to rely on many more energy flows—ranging from fossil fuels to photovoltaic generation of electricity—for their civilized existence. In this monumental history, Vaclav Smil provides a comprehensive account of how energy has shaped society, from pre-agricultural foraging societies through today's fossil fuel–driven civilization. Humans are the only species that can systematically harness energies outside their bodies, using the power of their intellect and an enormous variety of artifacts—from the simplest tools to internal combustion engines and nuclear reactors. The epochal transition to fossil fuels affected everything: agriculture, industry, transportation, weapons, communication, economics, urbanization, quality of life, politics, and the environment. Smil describes humanity's energy eras in panoramic and interdisciplinary fashion, offering readers a magisterial overview. This book is an extensively updated and expanded version of Smil's Energy in World History (1994). Smil has incorporated an enormous amount of new material, reflecting the dramatic developments in energy studies over the last two decades and his own research over that time.

Book Synopsis Russia's Energy Policies by : Pami Aalto
Download or read book Russia's Energy Policies written by Pami Aalto and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Russia is an increasingly important player in global energy markets, yet its policies are under-researched and little understood. This collection represents an important and sophisticated contribution to the debate. While much of the commentary on Russian energy consists of generalizations about Russia's political strategy, this work lifts the lid and looks inside the process through which Russian energy policies are designed and implemented. It brings together essays by top specialists in the field, and makes a conscious effort to integrate the various disciplines of politics, economics and geography by developing a model of the "cognitive frames" through which the policy process is shaped. It addresses both domestic and international dimensions of the problem, and gives equal weight to traditional customers in Europe and new markets in Asia.' Peter Rutland, Wesleyan University, US 'The book explains Russian energy policies, instead of a policy. It portrays a picture with multiple policy drivers, including institutional, regional and federal, environmental and commercial. The study markedly improves our understanding of the multifaceted nature of Russian energy policy, a topical and complex issue. This is a highly commendable book that should be included in the reading lists of anyone with an interest in the role of energy in Russia's political economy or energy matters more generally.' Kim Talus, University College London, Australia Russia's vast energy reserves, and its policies towards them have enormous importance in the current geopolitical landscape. This important book examines Russia's energy policies on the national, interregional and global level. It pays particular attention to energy policy actors ranging from state, federal and regional actors, to energy companies and international financial actors and organizations. The book models the formation of Russia's energy policies in terms of how energy policy actors perceive and map their policy environment. The case studies cover federal, regional and environmental aspects of Russian energy policy, Russia's energy relations with Europe and the CIS, North East Asia, the globalization of Russian oil companies and the political economy of Russian energy. It is found that there are several concurrent energy policies in contemporary Russia, and that this situation is likely to continue. These policies are conducted primarily from the business frame perspective while notions of energy superpower Russia are found more ambiguous. Russia's Energy Policies will benefit advanced master's level students, doctoral students, researchers, policy-makers and practitioners. The book will be a great resource for advanced international relations, political economy, international business and globalisation courses alongside energy policy courses, as well as area studies courses on Russian, post-Soviet and European politics and environmental politics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • In this urgent, authoritative book, Bill Gates sets out a wide-ranging, practical—and accessible—plan for how the world can get to zero greenhouse gas emissions in time to avoid a climate catastrophe. Bill Gates has spent a decade investigating the causes and effects of climate change. With the help of experts in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, political science, and finance, he has focused on what must be done in order to stop the planet's slide to certain environmental disaster. In this book, he not only explains why we need to work toward net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases, but also details what we need to do to achieve this profoundly important goal. He gives us a clear-eyed description of the challenges we face. Drawing on his understanding of innovation and what it takes to get new ideas into the market, he describes the areas in which technology is already helping to reduce emissions, where and how the current technology can be made to function more effectively, where breakthrough technologies are needed, and who is working on these essential innovations. Finally, he lays out a concrete, practical plan for achieving the goal of zero emissions—suggesting not only policies that governments should adopt, but what we as individuals can do to keep our government, our employers, and ourselves accountable in this crucial enterprise. As Bill Gates makes clear, achieving zero emissions will not be simple or easy to do, but if we follow the plan he sets out here, it is a goal firmly within our reach.

Book Synopsis Balance on All Levels with the Crystal and Indigo Energy by : Anni Sennov
Download or read book Balance on All Levels with the Crystal and Indigo Energy written by Anni Sennov and published by . This book was released on 2012-04 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Balance on All Levels with the Crystal and Indigo Energy" is a combined and updated version of Anni Sennov's two books "Balance on All Levels" from 2002 and "Crystal Children, Indigo Children and Adults of the Future" from 2004. The book gives you a good all-round insight into what it means to be a New Time Indigo and Crystal child/person, and how the Indigo and Crystal energy, now and in the future, will affect everyone's life, life values and daily existence on this Earth. All children born between 1995 and 2003 were born as pure Indigo people. In the period 2004-2008 all children were born with a mixed Indigo and Crystal aura, and all children born in the period 2009-2012 are pure Crystal individuals with both a Crystal aura and a Crystal body. From 2013 pure Crystal people are born, who in addition to having a Crystal aura and body are crystallized in their network energy. It is thus clear to everyone that New Time children will continue to be born in the future with further upgrades in their energy structure. However, for adults born before 1987, and partly for those born in the period 1987-1994, the New Time energy does not appear by itself. It must be chosen consciously, which can be achieved for instance by an Aura Transformation, which is a permanent and radical expansion of your personal consciousness giving you more radiance, drive and intuition and also helping you to better define yourself as a person. It is a condition of being aura-transformed that you read this book so that you are fully informed and aware of the effect of integrating the New Time energy into your aura.
