Book Synopsis Introduction à l'économie politique de la santé by : Félix Faucon

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Introduction à l'économie de la santé written by Valérie Fargeon and published by PUG. This book was released on 2014-12-15T00:00:00+01:00 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Health System Performance Comparison: an Agenda for Policy, Information and Research by : Irene Papanicolas
Download or read book Health System Performance Comparison: an Agenda for Policy, Information and Research written by Irene Papanicolas and published by McGraw-Hill Education (UK). This book was released on 2013-06-16 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International comparison of health system performance has become increasingly popular, made possible by the rapidly expanding availability of health data. It has become one of the most important levers for prompting health system reform. Yet, as the demand for transparency and accountability in healthcare increases, so too does the need to compare data from different health systems both accurately and meaningfully. This timely and authoritative book offers an important summary of the current developments in health system performance comparison. It summarises the current state of efforts to compare systems, and identifies and explores the practical and conceptual challenges that occur. It discusses data and methodological challenges, as well as broader issues such as the interface between evidence and practice. The book draws out the priorities for future work on performance comparison, in the development of data sources and measurement instruments, analytic methodology, and assessment of evidence on performance. It concludes by presenting the key lessons and future priorities, and in doing so offers a rich source of material for policy-makers, their analytic advisors, international agencies, academics and students of health systems.

Download or read book Neighbourhoods in Transition written by Emmanuel Rey and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-09-25 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book is focused on the intersection between urban brownfields and the sustainability transitions of metreopolitan areas, cities and neighbourhoods. It provides both a theoretical and practical approach to the topic, offering a thorough introduction to urban brownfields and regeneration projects as well as an operational monitoring tool. Neighbourhoods in Transition begins with an overview of historic urban development and strategic areas in the hearts of towns to be developed. It then defines several key issues related to the topic, including urban brownfields, regeneration projects, and sustainability issues related to neighbourhood development. The second part of this book is focused on support tools, explaining the challenges faced, the steps involved in a regeneration process, and offering an operational monitoring tool. It applies the unique tool to case studies in three selected neighbourhoods and the outcomes of one case study are also presented and discussed, highlighting its benefits. The audience for this book will be both professional and academic. It will support researchers as an up-to-date reference book on urban brownfield regeneration projects, and also the work of architects, urban designers, urban planners and engineers involved in sustainability transitions of the built environment.
Book Synopsis From the City to the Desert by : Raffael Beier
Download or read book From the City to the Desert written by Raffael Beier and published by Logos Verlag Berlin GmbH. This book was released on 2019-08-23 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, large-scale housing and resettlement projects have experienced a renaissance in many developing countries and are increasingly shaping new urban peripheries. One prominent example is Morocco's Villes Sans Bidonville (cities without shantytowns) programme that aims at eradicating all shantytowns in Morocco by resettling its population to apartment blocks at the urban peripheries. Analysing the specific resettlement project of Karyan Central, a 90-year-old shantytown in Casablanca, this book sheds light on both process and outcome of resettlement from the perspective of affected people. It draws on rich empirical data from a structure household survey (n=871), qualitative interviews with different stakeholder, document analysis, and non-participant observation gathered during four months of field research. The author emphasises that the VSB programme, although formally part of anti-poverty and urban inclusion policies, puts primary focus on the clearance of the shantytown. Largely based on ill-informed policy assumptions, stigmatisation, rent-seeking, and opaque implementation practices, the VSB programme interpreted adequate housing in a narrow sense. By showing how social interactions, employment patterns, and access to urban functions have changed because of resettlement, the book provides sound empirical evidence that housing means more than four walls and a roof.

Book Synopsis Echinococcus and Hydatid Disease by : R. C. A. Thompson
Download or read book Echinococcus and Hydatid Disease written by R. C. A. Thompson and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1995 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hydatid disease (echinococcosis), caused by the tapeworm Echinococcus, is a public health and economic problem of global proportions. Treatment of this zoonotic infection usually requires major surgery and the prognosis for some forms of the disease is poor. Control efforts have had little impact globally and new foci of infection and regions of endemicity have recently been recognized. However, in addition to its medical, veterinary and economic significance, Echinococcus is an intriguing biological phenomenon. This book presents a complete synthesis of all aspects of Echinococcus and Hydatid Disease. It builds on the success of a previous volume The Biology of Echinococcus and Hydatid Diseaseby Allen & Unwin, 1986, and details the major advances that have taken place since. In addition, the scope of the book has been broadened to include genetics, evolutionary biology, epidemiology and clinical features. The overriding theme of the book is that a comprehensive understanding of the biology of Echinococcus is essential for the effective treatment and control of Hydatid Disease. The links between laboratory knowledge and field applications are emphasised throughout the book. Consequently, research workers, teachers and students of parasitology, clinicians and field workers, will find this work an indispensable source of information, but it will also provide a model for the integration of basic and applied research in parasitology.
