Book excerpt: Letter from Thomas Boylston Adams to his 14 year old son Thomas Boylston Adams, Jr., who was a cadet at the American Literary Scientific and Military Academy in Norwich, Vermont. The letter starts by mentioning that his letter to his mother dated the 14th came by the morning post. The letter went on to discuss the adoption by Captain Alden Partridge of George Colvocoresses, a child from a prominent Greek family, most of whom were killed by the Turks during the Greek War of Independence. Other topics discussed include letters received from Uncle Charles (Harrod) in New Orleans, who hopes to obtain the office of a Navy agent; "A highly interesting and friendly letter to your mother" from Mrs. Cutler, wife of Major Cutler, from the Sault Ste. Marie Territory of Michigan, Brady's Cantonment with entertaining descriptions of "aboriginal dress, manner and movement." He concludes by stating that the Governor made a visit to him yesterday, and invited him to dine with him today, so he needs to shave and dress and then ride seven miles in the rain to a three o'clock dinner. The Governor also asked "where is your son the Norwichian? We told him, at the Academy. That's well, he'll make a fine solder, that Lad!"

He also served as personal secretary to John Adams during the latter's term as President. There is a commonplace book dated 1755, and evidently misattributed to John Adams. Three early deeds, dated 1698, 1705, and 1709, relate to properties owned by the Adams family on the Boston waterfront. There are typescripts of some of these letters in a bound notebook.
