After being able to work flexibly for 14 of her 23 years in education across teaching, school leadership and MAT leadership roles, Emma Turner realised that sadly, she's actually in the minority and has just been kinda lucky. Across the education system, although there is a recent groundswell of support for developing more life friendly, innovative and flexi ways of working, there are still a great deal of misconceptions, biases and prejudices about flexible working and flexible workers. Through her 'playlist' of educational floor fillers, Emma explores some of the successful ways in which flexible working can be viewed by both employers and employees for staff at all levels, including senior and school leadership. Designed to open up the flexible working conversation, this book outlines what can work, what has worked and what could work. This new way of viewing the flexi narrative from an experienced flex-pert encourages all to revisit our views on flexible working.

A strong choice for sharing at home or in the classroom. Karen Barbour's dramatic, vibrant paintings speak to the heart of Lester's unique vision, truly a celebration of all of us. The differences are merely in the details." I am a story. So are you. So is everyone.

Book excerpt: 'Let's Talk About Sex' is a much-needed resource for providing information to groups and individuals with intellectual disabilities in order that they are aware of the risks and intricacies of sexual health, sexual relationships and all that goes with this. This need may arise during adolescence, following a period away from the community (e.g. hospitalisation, incarceration) or later in life. The manual provides a sexual health education programme that can be used with adolescents and adults with intellectual disabilities. Its detailed guidance and resources can be used to run a group programme delivered as individual stand-alone sessions, in a pick and mix style, or as a 16-week programme, according to the needs of those attending. It can also be used as a basis for working with individuals on sexual health matters. The programme covers topics including physiology, puberty, personal hygiene, health screening, sexual orientation and gender identity, dignity and respect, sexual education, consent, relationships, and exploitation, delivered in a non-judgemental, informative, supportive approach. Each session incorporates different methods of learning, including facilitator-led discussion, active participation and visual aids to enhance learning and can be adapted to meet the learning needs of participants. Online, printable resources are included to reinforce learning. Guidance is provided to facilitators on supporting individuals during and after sessions.

National Teaching Fellow Higher Education Academy and published by CEL&T Training and Development. This book was released on 2020-05-18 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the updated version of Lets Talk About Child to Parent Violence to recognise that Childhood Challenging, Violent or Aggressive Behaviour (CCVAB) in the home involves more than parents. CCVAB affects everyone in the home, children as well as any other adult. Childhood Challenging Violent or Aggressive behaviour in the home is gaining wider recognition across society leading to an 'opening up' of the lives of families but in the real world little has changed for families. This book is relevant to professionals and parent/carers or those who want to gain a better understanding of Childhood Challenging, Violent or Aggressive Behaviour (CCVAB). CCVAB can be diagnosed as a cognitive disorder identified by the World Health Organisation as a 'Conduct Disorder within the context of the family' yet this diagnosis has not been used for children so far. CCVAB is most usually thought of as Adolescent to Parent Violence and Abuse (APVA) but this overlooks the age when most CCVAB starts - at the age of 6-9 years. For families this means they are left unsupported until children reach adolescence when the behaviour has escalated and become entrenched, something that could have been prevented had earlier recognition been made. Childhood Challenging, Violent or Aggressive Behaviour (CCVAB) is an umbrella term for a range of acronyms previously used to identify children's challenging, violent or aggressive behaviour in the home. Previous acronyms such as CPVA or APVA focus on violence and abuse towards the parent themselves yet evidence repeatedly shows this is not always the case and sibling abuse or property destruction can also happen. We look to open up understanding and highlight how listening to families is the first step of developing support for these families and remove preconceived views about who these families and children are. We consider CCVAB against new information about Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), children with Special Educational Needs or Disability (SEND), Neurological development and Learning Difficulties to bring attention to the many ways that Childhood Challenging, Violent or Aggressive Behaviour can happen. This book looks at what is known and what is emerging to help provide better understanding. the impact on families living with CCVAB is immense, by including parents views these families explain what living with CCVAB is for them in the real world and how little support is available to them and their family

Book excerpt: This edited volume offers an insightful theoretical conceptualization of issues central to 21st century foreign language learning and teaching. Drawing on research results obtained in the fields of pedagogy, social psychology and sociology of education, this book provides a comprehensive practical exploration of issues experienced by researchers in Poland and in Europe, and which can easily find far-reaching implications in other educational contexts. Part I, Focus on the Teacher, includes seven texts discussing topics relevant to teacher initial and in-service education, as well as the functioning of foreign language instructors in educational systems. The eight contributions included in Part II, Focus on the Learner, explore learner-internal and learner-external factors that affect the effectiveness of the language learning process. The exploration of key contemporary topics and the wide range of methodologies applied make this book of high relevance to Second Language Acquisition scholars, teacher educators, teachers, and language education policy makers.
