Book excerpt: 'The past six weeks have been incredible: we've eaten frogs, drunk beer on the street with locals in Vietnam, ridden a motorcycle through rice fields, explored the ancient ruins of Angkor Wat, and scuba dived the crystal clear waters off several tropical islands. The next six months will be just as interesting and just as much fun.' As incredible as this trip has been for Adam and Darcie, the most incredible part is that they haven't spent a penny on it. In fact, they have actually been making money. This will continue for the rest of their travels, for as long as they want. Adam and Darcie have written this book with the explicit intention of changing your life so that - when you've learnt their strategies -you, too, can start living the life you've always wanted. Adam and Darcie's websites - which they refer to as streamsA" throughout the book - are the reason they are able to live the way they do. They bring in more passive income each month than they spend, which results in copious amounts of free time and a never-ending stream of income to travel with. In this book you will discover: - how to set up your business so that it almost runs on auto pilot. - how you should plan your travels around the world. The book is divided into four parts: 1. Inspiration - a listing and photos of some of the most intriguing destinations around the world, along with photographs to get your imagination running. 2. Education - how to build an online business, from creating a product to accepting payments. 3. Perspiration - step-by-step accounts of three very different online business models to finance your dreams. 4. Embarkation - covers the nuts and bolts of long-term travel abroad. Book excerpt: At one time or another, most of us have experienced an all-consuming desire for a material object, a desire so strong that it seems like we couldn't possibly be happy without buying this thing. Yet, when we give in to this impulse, we often find ourselves feeling frustrated and empty. Advertisers, of course, aim to hook us in this way, and, from a global perspective, our tendency to get hooked fuels the rampant over-consumption that is having a devastating impact on the world's stability and on the environment. According to the contributors to this unique anthology, Buddhism can shed valuable light on our compulsions to consume. Craving and attachment—how they arise and how to free ourselves of them—are central themes of Buddhist thought. The writings in this volume, most of which have never been previously published, offer fresh perspectives and much-needed correctives to our society's tendency to believe that having more will make us happier. Hooked! includes a range of writings on how to apply Buddhist thought and ethics to understand and combat the problem of over-consumption as individuals and collectively. Contributors include popular Western teachers, Asian masters, scholars, and practitioners such as: • Pema Chödrön—on what is actually happening at the moment we're "hooked," and how to get beyond that. • Joseph Goldstein—on how mindfulness training can help us stop "wanting to want." • Bhikshuni Thubten Chödrön—on how consumer mentality influences spiritual practice. • Judith Simmer-Brown—on how cultivating spiritually based activism and compassionate action can help us address the negative effects of consumerism. • Rita Gross—on how understanding moderation can curb overconsumption. • Santikaro Bhikkhu—on practicing generosity in a consumer world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book about a vision that has been fulfilled in 2020. ‘Will you visit me during the Economic Downturn?’ was written in 2016 by Rev Leong upon God’s prompting. It talks about a coming global economic downturn. The book cover shows is an illustration of the extraordinary times. There is the earth in the cover picture. It represents all the nations of the world, which will be ravaged by the severe economic downturn. A 3-year-old boy standing without his parents illustrates the fact that his parents were infected and died in the pandemic. He is all alone by himself. All industries are badly hit and the business of the rich suffers. They can only cast a blank stare upon the clouds, hoping that they will be blinded by the clouds. They are only concerned about themselves and their business. They are not in the mood to care for others, the outsiders and the miserable children of others. The many vague high-rise buildings in the picture represent a bleak prospect. Some businesses are closed down, including big hotels, old signature restaurants, famous western restaurants and some factories. Big and small companies retrench staff, and riots are frequent. Churches are closed and only a few members continue to give offerings. Many pastors live by faith with their families. In Chinese, the word ‘您' (‘心 ‘ (heart) under ‘你 ‘ (you) ) is a polite way to address the elderly. They have some savings, gold chains, valuables or property. They work hard but they care about their families and children. They bring their valuables to the pawnshop. Many local middle-aged and migrant workers have lost their jobs. They are in a panic about the future. The young people are jobless but they glue to their mobile phones. They don’t have strong bonding with their family.

Book excerpt: Greed Gone Good: A Roadmap to Creating Social and Financial Value brings the how-tos of impact finance to a broad- based audience of investors, from the individual to the institutional. Written in an engaging, jargon-free style and loaded with practical advice, it explores the pitfalls and potential of the burgeoning impact revolution—the increasingly widespread belief that business and financial leaders should weigh social value as well as financial value in all of their decisions, to create both a better business model and a better world. Cheerleaders have written a number of books advocating the magic of impact finance. Greed Gone Good hopes for the magic too, but also believes that an uncritical eye does not effectively advance the cause. We now have 10 years of impact investing history to examine, and not all of it is laudable. We could hold hands and sing Kumbaya in praise of impact finance; or we could employ constructive criticism to figure out what’s gone well and what hasn’t, and how we should move forward more productively. Greed Gone Good focuses on the roadmap—how to reorient and repackage finance and investing in order to deliver on this promise. In particular, it focuses on how to realize the potential of the impact revolution to become a silver bullet against future failures. Green Gone Good will have widespread appeal to investors ranging from individuals and family offices to the world’s largest asset managers and investors.

Book excerpt: Raise happy and healthy plant-powered children with more than 125 family favorite recipes by Vegucated film creator Marisa Miller Wolfson, plant-based chef Laura Delhauer, and parents in the vegan community. “The Vegucated Family Table comes at a perfect time, when it’s never been more urgent for people to live more in line with their own values.”—Senator Cory Booker For both vegans and the veg-curious, The Vegucated Family Table answers the question every caregiver ponders on a daily basis: “What should I feed my child?” But this book goes a step further, showing parents how to navigate the early years of childhood as a vegan, giving not only recipes and nutritional advice but also tips for holidays, packed lunches, play dates, and more. Unlike other family-oriented vegan cookbooks, The Vegucated Family Table is the first to focus on raising vegans “from scratch,” from five months through elementary school. A Q&A section focuses on nutrition, with advice by renowned pediatric plant-based expert Reed Mangels. With more than 125 rigorously tested recipes for beloved dishes like Baby Mac-o-Lantern and Cheeze, Chickpea Sweet Potato Croquettes, PBJ Smoothie Bowl, Tempeh Tacos, Baby’s First Birthday Smash Cake, and more, this book will become the go-to reference for parents raising vegan children.
