Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lessons Learned in Strange Places is an intriguing, yet true, account of author Jane Cooper's travels to various places around the world. Chronicling her numerous adventures, Jane provides a fascinating picture of many different countries, some of which are now closed to tourism, and especially to American tourists. The most important aspects of her stories are the lessons that were learned along with the answers to many prayers, which she and her mother experienced as they entered and exited these countries. For example, their trip to Iraq in 1974 not only required patience but also a great deal of prayer. It was at this time that Jane learned the importance of yielding to God's will. Arriving in Iraq with her mother for a Christmas holiday with no lodging secured, by chance they met an American woman and her German husband at the airport. The couple offered them a place to stay that turned out to be a blessing. In addition to the wonder of various lessons learned along the way, the amazing answers to prayer were just as impressive. Lessons Learned in Strange Places offers the anticipation of what the next problem might be, how the author handled each one, and the astonishing end results-and the part that prayer and faith played in each adventure.

The students are becoming secure and confident that God loves them and has created them with incredible gifts, talents and capacity. The students now know they have a bright future, that they can dream dreams and aspire to whatever God has poured into them. Transformation is an ongoing journey for all involved and there is more to do. Transformational development and mission are a never ending action of God’s love. It is not just one project or another, it is assisting persons to see themselves as God sees them and to realize that they are the change agents in their lives and communities. We then understand that transformational development is generational. The requisite is love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent Thoreau studies have shifted to an emphasis on the green" Thoreau, on Thoreau the environmentalist, rooted firmly in particular places and interacting with particular objects. In the wake of Buell's Environmental Imagination, the nineteen essayists in this challenging volume address the central questions in Thoreau studies today: how “green,” how immersed in a sense of place, was Thoreau really, and how has this sense of place affected the tradition of nature writing in America? The contributors to this stimulating collection address the ways in which Thoreau and his successors attempt to cope with the basic epistemological split between perceiver and place inherent in writing about nature; related discussions involve the kinds of discourse most effective for writing about place. They focus on the impact on Thoreau and his successors of culturally constructed assumptions deriving from science, politics, race, gender, history, and literary conventions. Finally, they explore the implications surrounding a writer's appropriation or even exploitation of places and objects.

Book excerpt: Let me tell you how much fun it is to be a book writer! One of my friends recently said to me, I dont even know anyone whos ever READ a book, let alone WRITE one! I was amused. Well you know its really not so hard to write a book. You just talk about what you feel, and organize your thoughts along the way. At some point, as you stay determined to make it happen, the book comes into the world. For me, now having compiled over 30 book-length manuscripts of various topics and subject matter, I have become more and more inclined to share the way I see the world with others along the way. You might call what I like to write about as having to do with personal philosophy, or individual world view. Everyone has a way they see their world; this book is part of how I see mine. It seems that all kinds of people have something to say about what life is and is not. I am like most people, so am no exception. I have come to enjoy giving such opinions and points of view with just about anyone who will listen. I wrote this book, MY WORLD: The First 50 Years, because I wanted to be sure and document the way life appeared to be to me at the half-century mark in my personal growth and evolution. I did it in a way that enables you to read right through it, or, if you prefer, you can take it slowly, over a one-year span of time, and think about the ideas and thoughts carefully. How you read the book is entirely up to you. Ten years earlier I had written a similar book (Earth Dwelling: An Owners Manual for Life) in order to share thoughts about the meaning and purpose of life. It is amazing the difference that ten years can make! I like to think that I am growing! Gee. Could that be? I sure hope so! People from the worlds of philosophy, religion and the popular culture are anxious to share the way they see the world with others. I have a passion to do that also, and so I wrote this book in order to summarize how things in life appeared to me. I could be way off - you decide for youself. At any rate, my world is MY way of seeing life...in YOUR world, you will see it your special way and that is part of the beauty of this life. Each person is free to see it differently, and that is our basic right to do so. I like that. I actually feel so strongly about what I am saying here that I created a web site (which is called HowIseetheworld.com) to talk about and share ideas with others. Take a look at it some time. Thoughts are powerful, and have a tendency to either make you great, or even destroy you before your time. So, think good thoughts! And enjoy the book as well!

Frederick, PhD, had fond memories of the B&O Railroad except for the time he caught his shoe in the tracks and almost lost his leg and probably his life. When he was eight years old, he found his lost twin who died in utero. He thought he must take responsibility of living his life, which had something to do with the lost life of his twin. He invites you to come with him and share his early life and the many side roads he never would have believed possible. There are many interesting stories or vignettes, easy to read in just a few paragraphs.

If such expert assistance is required, the services of competent and appropriate professionals should be sought. The author and the publisher shall have neither liability nor responsibility to any person or entity with respect to any loss or damage that may be indirectly or directly caused, or alleged to be caused, by the content of this book. It is also not the purpose of this book to reprint information that is otherwise available to the author, publisher, or reader. Rather, it seeks to complement, amplify, and/or supplement other texts available. The reader is urged to review all relevant material and learn as much as possible about life, tailoring that information to their individual situation. Further, efforts have been made to make this book as accurate as possible. However, there are undoubtedly editorial, typographical, and contextual errors contained herein. Therefore, the text should be viewed and utilized as a general guide, not as an ultimate source of information related to the various topics. This book also contains information that may no longer be relevant or accurate despite our desire to think our words and thoughts about life are timeless and perfect. Finally, the primary objective of this volume has something to do with the four Es—to enlighten, edify, educate, and entertain, perhaps even in that order. Personal philosophy and worldview are something we develop and maintain as individuals who evolve throughout life. It is the ambition of the writer to amplify these Es, hoping that in doing so, it will allow the reader to experience a more meaningful, balanced, complete, and productive encounter with life.
