Les onze contributions les plus abouties du congrès ont été retenues dans ce volume pour leur capacité à répondre à la question de savoir ce qu’étaient ces nouvelles frontières de l’intégrité dans un monde académique en mutation. Si l’on devait définir une unité de ton entre ces onze chapitres, ce serait celle de la franchise ; une unité d’analyse, ce serait celle de la rigueur ; une unité de vision, ce serait celle de l’exigence académique ; et une unité de caractère, ce serait celle de l’optimisme lucide. C’est cet optimisme qui nous permet de penser que le mouvement des sciences de l’intégrité, apte à se saisir des niveaux personnel, relationnel et systémique, est bel et bien lancé et que rien ne saurait l’arrêter. La multidisciplinarité est essentielle, car c’est grâce à elle que s’effectue la validation de propositions intellectuelles : grâce à la variation des perspectives disciplinaires et des niveaux d’analyse. Cette validation croisée garantit à chacun, auteur comme lecteur, de rester toujours dans sa zone d’inconfort. Ainsi les auteurs sont-ils philosophes, psychologues, géographes, économistes, linguistes, sociologues, ingénieurs, médecins ou encore issus des sciences de l’éducation, des sciences juridiques et du management. Les oeuvres d’Henri Prade et de Vincent Gaillaud illustrent la couverture de cet ouvrage. Elles nous suggèrent la rencontre de la fraude académique (à gauche) et l’intégrité (à droite). Il serait illusoire de croire que nous pouvons atteindre l’intégrité dans notre travail de chercheurs sans nous pencher sur la fraude, tant elles sont les deux faces d’une même médaille : la connaissance. Some chapters emphasize the qualitative changes in manifest motor behavior during the early growth years and examine the relation between temporal characteristics of pre- and perinatal movements and goal directed actions with qualitatively different rules of temporal organization. Other contributors stress the developmentally invariant timing characteristics of species-typical and perhaps genetically programmed motor patterns of nonhuman organisms.Also examined is the molecular machinery that generates circumscribed motor patterns with stable temporal characteristics, as well as the reversible influences of peripheral feedback on and the interactions among discrete pattern generators. Despite their basic theoretical differences, both formulations imply the same generic hypothesis: that the temporal characteristics of manifest movement or action are controlled by central agencies acting on the peripheral skeleto-muscular system in a hierarchic top-down mode.

Organized by the REHSEIS group (Research on Epistemology and History of Exact Sciences and Scientific Institutions) of CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research), the colloquium was held from 3 to 6 April 1990 in the UNESCO building in Paris. This colloquium was an idea of Professor Roshdi Rashed who initiated this field of studies in France some years ago, and proposed "Sciences and Empires" as one of the main research programmes for the The project to organize such a colloquium was a bit REHSEIS group. of a gamble. Its subject, reflected in the title "Sciences and Empires", is not a currently-accepted sub-discipline of the history of science; rather, it refers to a set of questions which found autonomy only recently. The terminology was strongly debated by the participants and, as is frequently suggested in this book, awaits fuller clarification.
