Book Synopsis Critical Anthropology by : Stephen Nugent
Download or read book Critical Anthropology written by Stephen Nugent and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-06-16 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical anthropology has had a major influence on the discipline, shifting it away from concepts of bounded societies with evolutionary trajectories to complex analyses of interconnected economic, political, and social processes. This book brings together some of critical anthropology’s most influential writings, collecting classic articles and spirited rebuttals by major scholars such as Eric Wolf, Marshall Sahlins, Sidney Mintz, Andre Gunder Frank, and Michael Taussig. Editor Stephen Nugent positions these key debates, originally published in the journal Critique of Anthropology, with new introductions that detail the lasting influence of these articles on anthropology over four decades, showing how critical anthropology is relevant today more than ever. An ideal supplementary text, this book is a rich exploration of intellectual history that will continue to shape anthropology for decades to come.
Book Synopsis Changing Structures of Inequality by : Yannick Lemel
Download or read book Changing Structures of Inequality written by Yannick Lemel and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2002 with total page 471 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The international sociological community has engaged recently in a controversial discussion on social inequality. There is a vigourous debate on whether the traditional concepts of social class and social stratification are still useful. Some researchers argue that social classes still offer a key explanation to social inequalities while others challenge the long-standing tradition of class analysis. New approaches have been proposed to describe recent social changes in the stratification system: vanishing middle class, two-thirds societies, cosmographic inequality, and classless society, among others.

Book Synopsis The Quebec Connection by : Julie-Françoise Tolliver
Download or read book The Quebec Connection written by Julie-Françoise Tolliver and published by University of Virginia Press. This book was released on 2020-12-03 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the 1950s to the 1970s, the idea of independence inspired radical changes across the French-speaking world. In The Quebec Connection, Julie-Françoise Tolliver examines the links and parallels that writers from Quebec, the Caribbean, and Africa imagined to unite that world, illuminating the tropes they used to articulate solidarities across the race and class differences that marked their experience. Tolliver argues that the French tongue both enabled and delimited connections between these writers, restricting their potential with the language’s own imperial history. The literary map that emerges demonstrates the plurality of French-language literatures, going beyond the concept of a single, unitary francophone literature to appreciate the profuse range of imaginaries connected by solidary texts that hoped for transformative independence. Importantly, the book expands the "francophone" framework by connecting African and Caribbean literatures to Québécois literature, attending to their interactions while recognizing their particularities. The Quebec Connection’s analysis of transnational francophone solidarities radically alters the field of francophone studies by redressing the racial logic that isolates the northern province from what has come to be called the postcolonial world.
Book Synopsis Concilier flexibilité du travail et cohésion sociale by : Council of Europe
Download or read book Concilier flexibilité du travail et cohésion sociale written by Council of Europe and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
