Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thesis completed as part of the Doctorate in Business Administration, called the DBA, requires the candidate to choose from a wide range of research methods and tools so this project can become reality. Determining, choosing, implementing and contextualizing research methods and tools are all crucial steps for the success of the research work undertaken as part of the DBA thesis. The 30 chapters of this book have been prepared to the attention of DBA candidates, to orient and guide them in choosing research methods and tools. The first part raises the question of the choice of research methods; the second one deals with data collection methods; the third part focuses on data analysis methods; and the fourth surveys the contextualization of methods. Written so as to ensure contents are accessible and to foster learning, the chapters provide the foundations and resources to guide methodological choices. This book is the English augmented edition of the French edition published as part of the Business Science Institute collection. The aim is to produce reference books to guide the academic work of doctoral candidates in the scientific training curriculum of the DBA. The first collective book published in 2015, The Creation of Knowledge by Managers (available in French), aimed to establish the main guidelines for this new role assumed by managers in management practice: that of new knowledge producers. Also part of the collection, the book How to Successfully Complete Your DBA?, aims to guide the research elaboration and execution of the DBA thesis.

Book excerpt: This book offers complete and operational methodology guidelines for the entire process of the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) thesis. It provides insights into theory and practice, both indispensable for the successful completion of the research project. The volume draws on the contributions of major reference works, and offers simplified, clear and applicable standards for DBA participants and supervisors. It illustrates a living experience, because completing a thesis is a human adventure. “Non-classic” students starting a doctoral project are facing an utterly new world with codes and methods they do not recognise. As such, this book brings together many testimonies from DBA scholars, which will help readers to find new formulations and valuable solutions in their own work.

This book was released on 2023-05-09 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Smallholder farming systems contribute a substantial quantity of the food consumed in many lower and middle-income countries and contribute to the national and local economies. Despite the importance of smallholder farming, a transformation is needed in order to deliver food security and decent incomes for the farmers themselves and at the national level. This transformation must also be sustainable in terms of environmental impacts and social equity in order to be successful in the long term. The pressures of population growth, climate change, and land fragmentation compound the problem. Addressing these overlapping issues is a big challenge. One obstacle is the lack of good quality granular data linking these issues together. Household surveys are the workhorse method for gathering such data, but there are well-known problems that prevent household survey data from building up a “big picture” and delivering insights beyond the geographical boundary of each individual study. Such obstacles include the lack of access to datasets, differences in survey design, and respondent biases. Agile, data-oriented research tools can help to overcome these challenges. We use the term “agile” to imply methods that do not attempt exhaustive measurements, which are designed to be easy to use, and which entail some degree of flexibility in terms of adaptation to local conditions and integration with other tools or methods. Often these methods also nudge the behavior of tool users towards best practices. In recent years various research tools and approaches have been published which fit within our definition of “agile data-oriented research tools”. The domains these tools function in include monitoring and evaluation, intervention targeting, tailored information delivery, citizen science, credit scoring, and user feedback collection; all with the over-arching aim to improve data quality and access for those studying the sustainable development of smallholder farming systems. The goal of this Research Topic is to better define that niche, the ecosystem of tools and current practices, and to explore how such approaches can provide the underpinning knowledge required for the transformation of smallholder farming systems. One example of an agile data-oriented research tool is the Rural Household Multi-Indicator Survey (RHoMIS). It is a modular, digital system for building household surveys addressing the common topics in smallholder development. It was purposefully designed to give a broad overview of the farm system whist keeping survey duration to a minimum, to be user-friendly in implementation, and to be sufficiently flexible to function in a broad variety of locations and projects. Since 2015 it has been used by 30 organizations in 32 countries to interview over 34,000 households. The tool and database are open access and a community of practice is developing around the tool. We particularly welcome contributions that engage with the RHoMIS tool and data. However, we also describe the tool in order to provide an example of what is meant by an agile data-oriented research tool, and welcome contributions focusing on other tools or methodologies. We encourage the submission of manuscripts addressing the above topic, and those which fit within one of the following three sub-themes: (i) Perspectives or review articles which explore the niche, best practices, or promising approaches in agile data-oriented research tools for smallholder farm system transformation. Also, technology and code articles that describe new tools are welcomed. (ii) Original research articles presenting analyses based on data derived from agile data-oriented tools used at the project level. Examples include impact evaluations, adoption studies, targeting studies, or adaptive management, and should reflect on the additional benefit leveraged by the agile method applied. (iii) Original research articles that make use of the large amounts of data generated by such agile methods and/or link between agile data and other data sources. Examples include meta-analyses of data from multiple studies, layering data collected from different agile tools, or linking agile data to remote sensing or large-scale modeling outputs.

There is an important transition from a focus on "qualification" to "competence" in the world of work, and the need to equip educators with the skills and methodologies required to meet these changing demands has never been greater. The role of a teacher can no longer be a static practitioner, but rather a dynamic decision-maker, ready to shape developing minds. Fostering Pedagogical Innovation Through Effective Instructional Design is an expansive research book that delves deep into the intricate art of teaching, emphasizing that pedagogy is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor. This scholarly work asserts that effective teaching is rooted in understanding context and a relentless commitment to refining one's instructional practices. The book introduces an array of critical parameters that educators must consider, including content selection, learner needs, and the ever-evolving realm of information and communication technologies. It navigates the reader through the intricacies of andragogy, the theoretical foundations of didactics, and innovative pedagogical approaches, offering a comprehensive toolkit for educators striving to optimize their craft.

Book excerpt: This volume continues to build on the relationship between the Research in Management Consulting series and the intervener-researchers at the Socio-Economic Institute for Firms and Organizations (ISEOR) in Ecully, France, extending that partnership to our recent work with the French Foundation for Management Education (FNEGE), a foundation dedicated to closing the gap between the teaching and practice of management in France. As part of the Foundation’s multifaceted activities—which range from seminars and an advanced training initiative for French doctoral students to joint programs with international organizations an associations—FNEGE partnered with ISEOR to sponsor a series of workshops on developing high quality intervention-research. This volume is one of the results from that endeavor. Although intervention-research helps to uncover valuable insight into organizational dynamics and performance, the challenge of capturing and disseminating that insight to both academics and practitioners is entrenched in the rigor-relevance debate. While we are witnessing increased calls for “actionable knowledge,” this ideal, unfortunately, remains a rather elusive concept as critics contend either that rigorous academic research falls well-short of relevance to the practitioner world or research that proves to be valuable to practitioners falls short of the rigor expected in academic life. This volume is intended to help bridge that divide. Drawing on the FNEGE-ISEOR intervention-research workshop, the volume contains 18 chapters that explore the intervention-research process, from initial conceptualization, to implementation, to publication. The volume will be published in French and English
