Book excerpt: This controversial book is the first systematic feminist reading of the work of Jean Baudrillard, one of the most pivotal figures in contemporary cultural theory, and is essential reading for students of feminist theory, sociology and cultural theory. Drawing on the full range of Baudrillard's writings the author engages in a debate with: * the work of Luce Irigaray, Judith Butler and Rosi Braidotti on identity, power and desire * the feminist concern with 'difference' as an emancipatory construct * writings on transgenderism and the performance of gender * feminist concerns about the objectification of women. Through this critical engagement Grace reveals some of the limitations of some contemporary feminist theorising around gender and identity, patriarchy and power, and in so doing offers a way forward for contemporary feminist thought.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michel Aglietta’s path-breaking book is the first attempt at a rigorous historical theory of the whole development of US capitalism, from the Civil War to the Carter presidency. A major document of the “Regulation School” of heterodox economics, it was received as the boldest book in its field since the classic studies of Paul Baran, Paul Sweezy and Harry Braverman. This edition includes a substantial postface by Aglietta, which situates regulation theory in the context of twenty-first-century capitalism.

Book excerpt: Is there a language which is adequate to describe our own economy? In this volume, Michel Verdon undertakes a path-breaking analysis of the three major paradigms in economics: Marxian economics, neo-classical economics and Keynesian economics. Each of these, he argues, has an inherent cosmology, and in the case of both Marxian and neo-classical economics these preclude the development of a language which can accurately describe and analyse an economy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent trends in Marxist economic theory have sponsored the methods of modern logic and mathematics. In doing so, they have displaced not only the relatively philosophical style of reflection found in Capital but also certain key problems addressed there by Marx. Ulrich Krause breaks new ground by applying mathematical techniques in an analysis of labor, money and exchange. Rejecting the notion of "homogeneous labor" as a basis of value theory, Krause develops his own understanding of the Marxist concept of "abstract labor," which he then integrates with an analysis of money in the process of commodity exchange. His book concludes with a new discussion of Marx's theory of value and surplus-value. Money & Abstract Labour is a major intervention in one of the most vigorously contested areas of contemporary economic theory.

This book was released on 1987 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
