Les problèmes que pose un accès régulier aux denrées de première nécessité à des prix accessibles restent entiers et pas seulement du fait de l'augmentation constante de la demande. S'il est vrai que la croissance démographique et les aléas climatiques restent des facteurs explicatifs de la tension sur les marchés des produits alimentaires, l'intensité d'une crise est toujours une affaire politique. Prévenir une crise alimentaire, c'est savoir prévoir et organiser l'accès aux céréales pour les plus fragiles, ceux qui vivent en milieu urbain et, surtout. les ruraux, beaucoup plus difficiles à atteindre. Piloté en partie par Pierre Janin, géographe, chercheur à l'Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD). ce numéro d'Hérodote donne la parole à des économistes, des anthropologues et agronomes, pour dresser un état des lieux du chou alimentaire dans le monde et plus particulièrement en Afrique, continent gravement touché, et faire un bilan des options qui s'esquissent pour en sortir.

They contribute to a theoretical gap in the food sovereignty literature as well as a relative shortage of empirical work on food sovereignty in the global "North", much previous work having focussed on Latin America. Specific case studies are included from Canada, Norway, Switzerland, southern Europe, UK and USA, as well as Africa, India and Ecuador. The book presents new research on the emergence of food sovereignties.
