This book was released on 2024-04-29 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work raises the need to create an ICC (International Climate Court) in order to repair and reduce the environmental inequalities suffered by Africa, as well as small island developing States, which, by their geographical location and their level of development, are harmed or especially affected by the harmful effects of climate change. Excessive greenhouse gas emissions, pollution due to fast fashion; radioactive waste; as well as the complexity of climatic migrations seriously alter the protection of the environment by and on the African continent. The proliferation of cases before the ECHR, The conviction of Switzerland on Tuesday April 9, 2024 by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) for violation of the Human Rights Convention and The proliferation of cases before the I/A Court H.R, because the exercise of certain rights guaranteed by the Conventions can be compromised by environmental degradation and exposure to environmental risks shows the obvious need of an ICC (International Climate Court) to reduce environmental inequalities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The EEC's heavy dependence on imported raw materials, combined with insufficient priority given to recuperative technologies, provided twin incentives to convene the European Conference on Waste Management. The conference was also held in answer to a call for a serious interna tional forum to enable high calibre spokesmen to express their views on a diversity of vital interests. The ambitious objective was that such a melting pot would smooth the road to cohesive policies and purposeful action, especially in the field of waste recycling. Among the speakers there were several specialists ready to outline the state of the art of a variety of technical subjects. This range included aspects of packaging, hazardous waste, the utilisation of waste in agri culture, energy from waste, and waste paper. ~aper was to play a particularly serious role, because pulp and paper is the largest external commodity need by the EEC countries after oil. Speakers were to be drawn from all parts of the EEC, in the expectation that country-to-country comparisons would stimulate progress in specific areas. This hope was frequently realised. Well represented was the Environment and Consumer Protection Department of the Commission itself. It is this department that has been quietly setting the beginnings of a coherent policy for waste management for throughout the 250 million population Community for the past seven years.

Download or read book Castaway Mountain written by Saumya Roy and published by Astra Publishing House. This book was released on 2021-09-07 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *One of NPR's "Books We Love 2021"* "'I came to see the mountains as an outpouring of our modern lives,' Roy writes, 'of the endless chase for our desires to fill us.' Readers of Behind the Beautiful Forevers will be drawn to this harrowing portrait." —Publishers Weekly "Castaway Mountain deserves every accolade. A stunning achievement." —Kiran Desai, Booker Prize Winner, author of Inheritance of Loss. All of Mumbai’s possessions and memories come to die at the Deonar garbage mountains. Towering at the outskirts of the city, the mountains are covered in a faint smog from trash fires. Over time, as wealth brought Bollywood knock offs, fast food and plastics to Mumbaikars, a small, forgotten community of migrants and rag-pickers came to live at the mountains’ edge, making a living by re-using, recycling and re-selling. Among them is Farzana Ali Shaikh, a tall, adventurous girl who soon becomes one of the best pickers in her community. Over time, her family starts to fret about Farzana’s obsessive relationship to the garbage. Like so many in her community, Farzana, made increasingly sick by the trash mountains, is caught up in the thrill of discovery—because among the broken glass, crushed cans, or even the occasional dead baby, there’s a lingering chance that she will find a treasure to lift her family’s fortunes. As Farzana enters adulthood, her way of life becomes more precarious. Mumbai is pitched as a modern city, emblematic of the future of India, forcing officials to reckon with closing the dumping grounds, which would leave the waste pickers more vulnerable than ever. In a narrative instilled with superstition and magical realism, Saumya Roy crafts a modern parable exploring the consequences of urban overconsumption. A moving testament to the impact of fickle desires, Castaway Mountain reveals that when you own nothing, you know where true value lies: in family, community and love.
