Book Synopsis Banques locales et banques régionales en France au XIXème siècle by : Michel Lescure
Download or read book Banques locales et banques régionales en France au XIXème siècle written by Michel Lescure and published by Albin Michel. This book was released on 2011-10-01 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis A Financial History of Western Europe by : Charles P. Kindleberger
Download or read book A Financial History of Western Europe written by Charles P. Kindleberger and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-06-03 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first history of finance - broadly defined to include money, banking, capital markets, public and private finance, international transfers etc. - that covers Western Europe (with an occasional glance at the western hemisphere) and half a millennium. Charles Kindleberger highlights the development of financial institutions to meet emerging needs, and the similarities and contrasts in the handling of financial problems such as transferring resources from one country to another, stimulating investment, or financing war and cleaning up the resulting monetary mess. The first half of the book covers money, banking and finance from 1450 to 1913; the second deals in considerably finer detail with the twentieth century. This major work casts current issues in historical perspective and throws light on the fascinating, and far from orderly, evolution of financial institutions and the management of financial problems. Comprehensive, critical and cosmopolitan, this book is both an outstanding work of reference and essential reading for all those involved in the study and practice of finance, be they economic historians, financial experts, scholarly bankers or students of money and banking. This groundbreaking work was first published in 1984.

Book Synopsis War and Social Change in Modern Europe by : Sandra Halperin
Download or read book War and Social Change in Modern Europe written by Sandra Halperin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Halperin traces the persistence of traditional class structures during the development of industrial capitalism in Europe, and the way in which these structures shaped states and state behavior and generated conflict. She documents European conflicts between 1789 and 1914, including small and medium scale conflicts often ignored by researchers and links these conflicts to structures characteristic of industrial capitalist development in Europe before 1945. This book revisits the historical terrain of Karl Polanyi's The Great Transformation (1944), however, it argues that Polanyi's analysis is, in important ways, inaccurate and misleading. Ultimately, the book shows how and why the conflicts both culminated in the world wars and brought about a 'great transformation' in Europe. Its account of this period challenges not only Polanyi's analysis, but a variety of influential perspectives on nationalism, development, conflict, international systems change, and globalization.
Book Synopsis Manias, Panics, and Crashes by : Robert Z. Aliber
Download or read book Manias, Panics, and Crashes written by Robert Z. Aliber and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-06 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Eighth Edition of this classic text on the financial history of bubbles and crashes, Robert McCauley joins with Robert Aliber in building on Charles Kindleberger's renowned work. McCauley draws on his central banking experience to introduce new chapters on cryptocurrency and the United States as the 21st Century global lender of last resort. He also updates the book's coverage of the recent property bubble in China, as well as providing new perspectives on the US housing bubble of 2003-2006, and the Japanese bubble of the late 1980s. And he gives new attention to the social psychology that leads people to take the risk of investing in Ponzi schemes and asset price bubbles. For the first time in this revised and updated edition, figures highlight key points to ensure that today’s generation of finance and economic researchers, students, practitioners and policy-makers—as well as investors looking to avoid crashes—have access to this panoramic history of financial crisis.
