Ces questions émergent depuis le début de ce nouveau siècle, et si par la nature même des aéroports, les coûts fixes sont très importants et les amortissements sur le long terme, les gestionnaires de plates-formes s'organisent autrement. De la prise de participation dans des aéroports de plus en plus souvent privatisés à la constitution de consortiums mettant en commun le savoir-faire de chacun, les gestionnaires aéroportuaires se lancent eux aussi à la conquête du monde.
