Download or read book Liberty And Justice For All written by Nan Aron and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-04-02 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intention of this book is to provide a better understanding of the mission of public interest lawyers and stimulate thought about ways to energize and build a movement that advances social justice. I could not have succeeded in this effort without the help and support of many individuals and institutions. I wish to express my appreciation for their assistance. I am very grateful to the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Justice for its wisdom in establishing the Alliance and for its continuing support for this book and other important projects. I profited from discussion with many public interest lawyers, activists and foundation officers. These individuals, who are listed in Appendix D, gave generously of their time. A few merit special attention. Charles Halpern and the staff at the Council for Public Interest Law, who wrote Balancing the Scales of Justice: Financing Public Interest Law in America, provided a wonderful model for me to follow.

Download or read book The IALL International Handbook of Legal Information Management written by Richard A. Danner and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-03 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Around the world, legal information managers, law librarians and other legal information specialists work in many settings: law schools, private law firms, courts, government, and public law libraries of various types. They are characterized by their expertise in working with legal information in its many forms, and by their work supporting legal professionals, scholars, or students training to become lawyers. In an ever-shrinking world and a time of unprecedented technological change, the work of legal information managers is challenging and exciting, calling on specialized knowledge and skills, regardless of where in the world they practice their profession. Their role within legal systems contributes substantially to the administration of justice and the rule of law. This International Handbook addresses the policy and strategic issues with which legal information managers and law librarians need to engage in the context of the diverse legal environments in which they work. It provides resources, analysis, and considered studies on an international basis for seasoned professionals, those about to enter the field, and anyone interested in the evolution of legal information in the twenty-first century.
Book Synopsis Basics of Law Librarianship by : Deborah Panella
Download or read book Basics of Law Librarianship written by Deborah Panella and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-11-12 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is an essential introductory guide on all aspects of law librarianship written especially for non-law librarians, library school students, and beginning law librarians. Although there are several excellent practical handbooks and numerous articles on specific topics of law librarianship for practicing law librarians, Basics of Law Librarianship is the only resource that addresses the information needs of the student or new law librarian. Author Deborah Panella, managing librarian of a large, prominent New York law firm, explores the major areas of law librarianship. She covers vital topics such as the legal clientele, collection development, research tools, technical services, impact of technology, and management issues, and describes what makes law libraries different from other special libraries. She has written a clear, readable volume without excessive detail or the use of special terminology. The bibliography of law library literature and the index add enormously to the book’s value as a major reference.

Book Synopsis Legal Knowledge Representation:Automatic Text Analysis in Public International and European Law by : Erich Schweighofer
Download or read book Legal Knowledge Representation:Automatic Text Analysis in Public International and European Law written by Erich Schweighofer and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 1999-10-19 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a presentation of all methods of legal knowledge representation from the point of view of jurisprudence as well as computer science. A new method of automatic analysis of legal texts is presented in four case studies. Law is seen as an information system with legally formalised information processes. The achieved coverage of legal knowledge in information retrieval systems has to be followed by the next step: conceptual indexing and automatic analysis of texts. Existing approaches of automatic knowledge representations do not have a proper link to the legal language in information systems. The concept-based model for semi-automatic analysis of legal texts provides this necessary connection. The knowledge base of descriptors, context-sensitive rules and meta-rules formalises properly all important passages in the text corpora for automatic analysis. Statistics and self-organising maps give assistance in knowledge acquisition. The result of the analysis is organised with automatically generated hypertext links. Four case studies show the huge potential but also some drawbacks of this approach.

Book Synopsis Honnold’s Uniform Law for International Sales under the 1980 United Nations Convention by : John Honnold
Download or read book Honnold’s Uniform Law for International Sales under the 1980 United Nations Convention written by John Honnold and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2021-08-09 with total page 984 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) has become the key framework for drafting international sales contracts and resolving resulting disputes. The remarkable progress of this epoch-making uniform international law calls for a new edition (the fifth) of the late Professor Honnold’s preeminent commentary, now issued under the authoritative hand of Harry M. Flechtner, editor of the fourth edition and a National Correspondent for the United States at UNCITRAL. Professor Flechtner updates Professor Honnold’s in-depth article-by-article exposition, addressing newly arising issues and taking into account the numerous decisions and scholarly analyses that have focused on the CISG in the twelve years since the last edition in 2009. Also expertly updated is Professor Honnold’s masterly overview of the development and implementation of the text of the CISG, as well as his authoritative insights into the underlying principles and purposes of the treaty. Taking into account the myriad variations among distinct legal systems, the commentary expertly treats all crucial aspects of sales contracts, including the following: delivery of the goods and handing over of documents; conformity of the goods and third-party claims; obligations of the parties; payment of the price; taking delivery; anticipatory breach; instalment contracts; remedies for breach of contract; damages; interest; exemptions; limits and effects of avoidance; preservation of the goods; and risk of loss. The CISG is widely regarded as the most significant body of international sales law and the most successful international commercial treaty in history. This new edition provides tribunals, practitioners, and scholars invaluable up-to-date insights into the meaning of each article of the Convention. The multitude of authorities consulted, many dating from the past few years, will continue to influence the promotion of international sales contract uniformity, encourage the settlement of disputes, and help to reinforce consensus in the application of the Convention.
