Book Synopsis Lectures on the Mathematical Method in Analytical Economics by : Jacob T. Schwartz
Download or read book Lectures on the Mathematical Method in Analytical Economics written by Jacob T. Schwartz and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2018-11-14 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An early but still useful and frequently cited contribution to the science of mathematical economics, this volume is geared toward graduate students in the field. Prerequisites include familiarity with the basic theory of matrices and linear transformations and with elementary calculus. Author Jacob T. Schwartz begins his treatment with an exploration of the Leontief input-output model, which forms a general framework for subsequent material. An introductory treatment of price theory in the Leontief model is followed by an examination of the business-cycle theory, following ideas pioneered by Lloyd Metzler and John Maynard Keynes. In the final section, Schwartz applies the teachings of previous chapters to a critique of the general equilibrium approach devised by Léon Walras as the theory of supply and demand, and he synthesizes the notions of Walras and Keynes. 1961 edition.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Methods of Game and Economic Theory by : Jean-Pierre Aubin
Download or read book Mathematical Methods of Game and Economic Theory written by Jean-Pierre Aubin and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematical economics and game theory approached with the fundamental mathematical toolbox of nonlinear functional analysis are the central themes of this text. Both optimization and equilibrium theories are covered in full detail. The book's central application is the fundamental economic problem of allocating scarce resources among competing agents, which leads to considerations of the interrelated applications in game theory and the theory of optimization. Mathematicians, mathematical economists, and operations research specialists will find that it provides a solid foundation in nonlinear functional analysis. This text begins by developing linear and convex analysis in the context of optimization theory. The treatment includes results on the existence and stability of solutions to optimization problems as well as an introduction to duality theory. The second part explores a number of topics in game theory and mathematical economics, including two-person games, which provide the framework to study theorems of nonlinear analysis. The text concludes with an introduction to non-linear analysis and optimal control theory, including an array of fixed point and subjectivity theorems that offer powerful tools in proving existence theorems.

The book includes a large number of applications to standard economic models and over two hundred fully worked-out problems.
Book Synopsis Economic Dynamics: Methods and Models by : G Gandolfo
Download or read book Economic Dynamics: Methods and Models written by G Gandolfo and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1971-01-01 with total page 571 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economic Dynamics: Methods and Models aims to give a simple but comprehensive treatment of mathematical methods used in economic dynamics and show how they are utilized to build and to analyze dynamic models. The text also focuses on methods, and every mathematical technique introduced is followed by its application to selected models. The book is divided into three different parts. Part I: Different Equations discusses general principles; first-order, second-order, higher-order equations; simultaneous systems; and their economic applications. Part II: Differential Equations also discusses the same areas as those in Part I, but instead features differential equations, as what the section name suggests. Part III: More Advanced Material covers comparative statistics and the comparative principle; stability of equilibrium and Liapunov's second method; and linear mixed differential and difference equations, as well as its other related topics. The text is recommended for mathematicians and economists who have an idea on advanced mathematics and would like to know more about its applications in economics.

Book Synopsis Computable Foundations for Economics by : K. Vela Velupillai
Download or read book Computable Foundations for Economics written by K. Vela Velupillai and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-07-26 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computable Foundations for Economics is a unified collection of essays, some of which are published here for the first time and all of which have been updated for this book, on an approach to economic theory from the point of view of algorithmic mathematics. By algorithmic mathematics the author means computability theory and constructive mathematics. This is in contrast to orthodox mathematical economics and game theory, which are formalised with the mathematics of real analysis, underpinned by what is called the ZFC formalism, i.e., set theory with the axiom of choice. This reliance on ordinary real analysis and the ZFC system makes economic theory in its current mathematical mode completely non-algorithmic, which means it is numerically meaningless. The book provides a systematic attempt to dissect and expose the non-algorithmic content of orthodox mathematical economics and game theory and suggests a reformalization on the basis of a strictly rigorous algorithmic mathematics. This removes the current schizophrenia in mathematical economics and game theory, where theory is entirely divorced from algorithmic applicability – for experimental and computational exercises. The chapters demonstrate the uncomputability and non-constructivity of core areas of general equilibrium theory, game theory and recursive macroeconomics. The book also provides a fresh look at the kind of behavioural economics that lies behind Herbert Simon’s work, and resurrects a role for the noble classical traditions of induction and verification, viewed and formalised, now, algorithmically. It will therefore be of particular interest to postgraduate students and researchers in algorithmic economics, game theory and classical behavioural economics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Treating the mathematical methods used in the economic dynamics, this book shows how they are utilised to build and analyse dynamical models. Accordingly, the focus is on the methods, and every new mathematical technique introduced is followed by its application to select economic models. The mathematical methods coveredc range from elementary linear difference and differential equations and simultaneous systems to the qualitative analysis of non-linear dynamical systems. Stability considerations are stressed throughout, including many advanced topics. Bifurcation and chaos theory are also dealt with. The reader is guided through a step-by-step analysis of each topic, be it a mathematical method or an economic model. The Study Edition also provides the reader with solutions to the numerous exercises.
Book Synopsis Positive Dynamical Systems in Discrete Time by : Ulrich Krause
Download or read book Positive Dynamical Systems in Discrete Time written by Ulrich Krause and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2015-03-10 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a systematic, rigorous and self-contained treatment of positive dynamical systems. A dynamical system is positive when all relevant variables of a system are nonnegative in a natural way. This is in biology, demography or economics, where the levels of populations or prices of goods are positive. The principle also finds application in electrical engineering, physics and computer sciences. "The author has greatly expanded the field of positive systems in surprising ways." - Prof. Dr. David G. Luenberger, Stanford University(USA)
